Gabriel Iglesias actually attended the school portrayed in the show, Wilson High School, as it is an actual high school in Long Beach, CA. He graduated in 1994.
Gabriel Iglesias is an avid fan and collector of Volkswagen buses, and owns several that are pristinely restored. He even had one bus converted into saltwater & freshwater aquariums on the show Tanked (2011).
The show shares the same basic premise with '70s classic Welcome Back, Kotter (1975), right down to the antagonist in the school's administration. Both shows led by stand up comics named Gabe.
Throughout the show, Christopher McDonald can be seen doing his iconic "finger pistols" from when he famously played Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore (1996).
The restaurant that all the characters go to is named DeBlasio's, named after the show's producer, Ron De Blasio, who has worked with Gabriel Iglesias on The Fluffy Movie: Unity Through Laughter (2014), Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy (2013), and many others.
