“City of Dreams,” an upcoming drama about a young Mexican boy who gets smuggled across the border, is lining up some heavy-hitting producers as Roadside Attractions looks to debut the film over Labor Day.
Sean Wolfington, the executive producer of “Sound of Freedom” and most recently “Cabrini”; Luis Fonsi, a five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, musician and producer; and songwriter Linda Perry have joined the producing team for the film. It’s a group that also includes Oscar-nominated “Roma” star Yalitza Aparicio. In addition, Fonsi will record an original song for the film, which will be written by Perry. “City of Dreams,” which marks Mohit Ramchandani’s feature directorial debut, will open in theaters nationwide on Aug. 30.
The film looks at how the young man’s dreams of becoming a soccer star are shattered when he’s smuggled into the U.S. and sold to a sweatshop in downtown Los Angeles.

The film is based on the life of Hetal Dave, India’s first professional female sumo wrestler. Rohatgi, a veteran of TV commercials, was on the lookout for a story with a strong human connection to make his feature film debut. When Joy Sengupta of FreshLime Films shared Dave’s story with Rohatgi, it lit a spark.

These are things that we have seen around us growing up. However, Hetal went a step ahead and chose a sport that did not even exist in our country. The magnitude of her dream was unimaginable. Austin Butler will star in Sony 3000 Pictures’ adaptation of “City on Fire.” The Don Winslow-penned novel, the first in a series, uses elements of “The Iliad,” “The Odyssey,” “Aeneid” and other Greek dramas and puts them in a contemporary crime sandbox. Butler will play Danny Ryan, a street criminal-turned-ruthless leader amid a gang war between Irish and Italian crime families in New England.
The film will mark the actor’s first role since his Oscar-nominated for playing Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” as well as his first as a producer. Butler will produce the picture alongside David Heyman and Shane Salerno.
3000 Pictures exec Drew Reed was instrumental in tracking the series, while Elizabeth Gabler and Marisa Paiva are overseeing for the studio. All parties hope that the first film will be successful enough to justify feature film adaptations of the next two novels in the series.

Exclusive: In his first star role set since his Oscar nominated turn as Elvis Presley, Austin Butler will star in City On Fire, the Sony 3000 Pictures adaptation of the Don Winslow novel. This will be Butler’s first film as producer, alongside David Heyman and Shane Salerno. Studio has made this a high priority, and will be meeting with writers and filmmakers immediately.
Deal brings Butler back with Sony Pictures, where he had his first breakout turn in the Quentin Tarantino-directed Once Upon A Time…In America. City on Fire is the first title in a novel trilogy, so the hope is for Butler to have his first turn on the ground floor of a film franchise, after starring in the Baz Luhrmann-directed Elvis.
The HarperCollins/Morrow novel takes elements of The Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid and Greek tragic dramas and places them in a world of contemporary crime.

Disney is taking a new step to streamline its streaming portfolio: The media company plans to phase out the Hotstar U.S. service — which provides live cricket and South Asian programming to American audiences — over the next year.
Instead, Disney will take the sports and entertainment programming in Hotstar and repackage it into ESPN Plus (which will pick up all of Hotstar’s U.S. cricket rights) and Hulu for the U.S. market. It’s hoping Hotstar customers in the States will switch over to the Disney Bundle.
Disney is aiming to fully shut down Hotstar in the U.S. in late 2022, but doesn’t have a specific date at this point. The Mouse House picked up Star India, which operates Hotstar globally, through the acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Readers will have to wait a little longer for Don Winslow’s next novel. HarperCollins said today that it has delayed the release of City on Fire until 2022 amid the surge in Covid around the country. It had been set to hit shelves in September.
The book will launch a trilogy that tells an epic crime saga. City on Fire follows the template of Homer’s The Iliad, and its follow-ups will be City of Dreams and City in Ashes. The latter two are planned for September 2022 and September 2023, respectively. No word on whether either will be delayed.
“I’ve been writing City on Fire and my new trilogy for decades,” Winslow said in a statement. “One of the great joys of publishing a new book is interacting with readers on tour, a hallmark of each of my publications. In light of rising Covid case numbers across the U.S.

Mumbai, Jan 23 (Ians) Not long ago, Eijaz Khan shocked everyone when he revealed a dark secret from his childhood in the Bigg Boss 14. He shared that he had been touched inappropriately. The actor, who is temporarily out of the house to shoot a web series, claims his housemates used the revelation as a trigger against him, but that has only made him stronger.
For those who came in late, Eijaz's confession came in in November during an immunity task when housemates had to reveal a very personal thing no one knew about them. He broke down while sharing the fact that he was touched inappropriately as a child, and said that he had struggled for years to deal with the trauma. Eijaz added that his therapist helped him get over it. He had also shared that he did not tell his father about it and that was something he regretted.

He broke down while sharing the fact that he was touched inappropriately as a child, and said that he had struggled for years to deal with the trauma. Eijaz added that his therapist helped him get over it. He had also shared that he did not tell his father about it and that was something he regretted.

Politics has never really been a favoured subject for Bollywood filmmakers. In a country where mainstream cinema never really got out of the grip of censor woes and protest groups, the Hindi film industry by and large avoided cinema that spoke of politics and politicians.
Bollywood cinema has naturally hesitated looking at Indian politics and political themes while setting up fictional drama.
There have been cases in the past, after all, when themes pertaining to politics faced trouble. Kissaa Kursee Kaa was banned from release during Emergency owing to its satirical depiction of democracy in the country. Aandhi was banned a few months after release because it was felt that the film bore shades of Indira Gandhi and her politics. Parzania, depicting a fictional story against the backdrop of the 2002 Gujarat riots, was banned in that state, and so was Firaaq. Inshallah Kashmir won a National Award, but was denied release,...

For weeks our “Project Runway” odds have indicated a two-way race between the consistent polish of Sebastian Grey and the adventurous eccentricity of Hester Sunshine. However, with only five designers left in the competition, Sunshine has plummeted, while Garo Sparo has moved up. Now we’re predicting an all-male top three. Do you agree with this sudden shift? Make or update your own predictions here before Thursday night’s new episode.
Our odds are calculated by combining the predictions of “Runway” fans we poll every week in our predictions center, and this week they’re still high on Grey’s chances. In last week’s 11th challenge, “New York City of Dreams,” he had to create a look for an NYC civic employee that pushed its creativity to its limits. His client wanted a vintage Disney princess feel, which Grey had to translate into a look that felt modern and also true to his aesthetic.

What starts off seeming to be a take-off on Mani Ratnam's most recent political drama "Chekka Chivantha Vaanam" turns into an engrossing crackling cat-and-mouse drama about a political empire in Maharashtra where siblings squabble for power after the patriarch (Atul Kulkarni) is gunned down.
Straightaway, "City Of Dreams" encircles a cluster of power-hungry characters whose motives are never cogent, let alone comprehensible. There is always a sense of more going on here than meets the eye.
Writers-directors Nagesh Kukunoor, Rohit C. Banawlikar peel off layers after layers of subterfuge to reveal a system of governance that thrives on corruption and deception.
Deftly inter-woven, the plot moves in mysterious ways embracing characters who are at once cunning and naive. The aforementioned wounded politician's daughter Poornima (a very lovely and emotionally empowered Priya Bapat) fights it out with her out-of-control debauched brother Ashish (Siddharth Chandekar).
The two actors play off against one another with controlled acerbity,...

Actress Priya Bapat, known for her Marathi films Kaksparsh and Aamhi Doghi,' is making her digital debut with the Hindi web series 'City of Dreams,' saying she doesn't want to limit herself to the Marathi film industry. "I think the way the business of cinema is changing, there shouldn't be any limitation for any actors to work in one film industry. I think I can easily shuffle from regional to Hindi depending on the kind of film offers I am getting. The Rajkumar Hirani film just happened to me. After that, I kept getting offers from Marathi films and explored them all," she told Ians.
Though she has acted in Bollywood films Munna Bhai Mbbs and Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Priya mostly worked in Marathi films and managed to make her space as an actress.
"Hopefully I will get more films from Bollywood as well after the release of the web series.
