“City of Dreams,” an upcoming drama about a young Mexican boy who gets smuggled across the border, is lining up some heavy-hitting producers as Roadside Attractions looks to debut the film over Labor Day.

Sean Wolfington, the executive producer of “Sound of Freedom” and most recently “Cabrini”; Luis Fonsi, a five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, musician and producer; and songwriter Linda Perry have joined the producing team for the film. It’s a group that also includes Oscar-nominated “Roma” star Yalitza Aparicio. In addition, Fonsi will record an original song for the film, which will be written by Perry. “City of Dreams,” which marks Mohit Ramchandani’s feature directorial debut, will open in theaters nationwide on Aug. 30.

The film looks at how the young man’s dreams of becoming a soccer star are shattered when he’s smuggled into the U.S. and sold to a sweatshop in downtown Los Angeles.

Jayant Rohatgi’s feature directorial debut “Sumo Didi” has its world premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival’s Asian Future strand.

The film is based on the life of Hetal Dave, India’s first professional female sumo wrestler. Rohatgi, a veteran of TV commercials, was on the lookout for a story with a strong human connection to make his feature film debut. When Joy Sengupta of FreshLime Films shared Dave’s story with Rohatgi, it lit a spark.

Disney+ Hotstar, the leading streaming platform in India, is all set to launch its second Malayalam web series after the success of Kerala Crime Files. The new web series, titled Pharma, will feature Nivin Pauly, Sruthi Ramachandran, Rajit Kapur, Veena Nandakumar, and Narain in pivotal roles.

The series is directed by PR Arun, who helmed the critically acclaimed film Finals, and produced by Krishnan Sethukumar, who has backed films like Unda, Ivide, and James And Alice.

According to reports, The series promises to be a potent mix of drama, suspense, and action that will keep the viewers hooked till the end. The series also boasts of a talented technical crew that includes cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, music composer Jakes Bejoy, and editor Sreejith Sarang.

Pharma will be released on Disney+ Hotstar as part of its Hotstar Specials banner. The release date and trailer of the series are yet to be announced.

Disney+ Hotstar India’s Syria-set thriller series “The Freelancer” is in the works.

Based on the bestselling 2017 book “A Ticket to Syria” by Shirish Thorat, the series is from showrunner Neeraj Pandey (Disney+ Hotstar’s Special Ops franchise), produced by Friday Storytellers and directed by Bhav Dhulia (Netflix’s “Khakee: The Bihar Chapter”).

Austin Butler will star in Sony 3000 Pictures’ adaptation of “City on Fire.” The Don Winslow-penned novel, the first in a series, uses elements of “The Iliad,” “The Odyssey,” “Aeneid” and other Greek dramas and puts them in a contemporary crime sandbox. Butler will play Danny Ryan, a street criminal-turned-ruthless leader amid a gang war between Irish and Italian crime families in New England.

The film will mark the actor’s first role since his Oscar-nominated for playing Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” as well as his first as a producer. Butler will produce the picture alongside David Heyman and Shane Salerno.

Eddie Redmayne To Be Honored With Zurich’s Golden Eye

British actor Eddie Redmayne will be feted with the Zurich Film Festival’s Golden Eye Award for his career achievements at its upcoming edition running from September 22 to October 2. The actor will receive the honor ahead of the European premiere of Tobias Lindholm’s serial killer thriller The Good Nurse on September 25.

Disney is taking a new step to streamline its streaming portfolio: The media company plans to phase out the Hotstar U.S. service — which provides live cricket and South Asian programming to American audiences — over the next year.

Instead, Disney will take the sports and entertainment programming in Hotstar and repackage it into ESPN Plus (which will pick up all of Hotstar’s U.S. cricket rights) and Hulu for the U.S. market. It’s hoping Hotstar customers in the States will switch over to the Disney Bundle.

Disney is aiming to fully shut down Hotstar in the U.S. in late 2022, but doesn’t have a specific date at this point. The Mouse House picked up Star India, which operates Hotstar globally, through the acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Readers will have to wait a little longer for Don Winslow’s next novel. HarperCollins said today that it has delayed the release of City on Fire until 2022 amid the surge in Covid around the country. It had been set to hit shelves in September.

The book will launch a trilogy that tells an epic crime saga. City on Fire follows the template of Homer’s The Iliad, and its follow-ups will be City of Dreams and City in Ashes. The latter two are planned for September 2022 and September 2023, respectively. No word on whether either will be delayed.

City On Fire, which follows the template of Homer’s The Iliad, will be published by William Morrow in September. The followup, City of Dreams, will be published a year later, and the third installment, City in Ashes, will be published September, 2023.

Author Don Winslow has set his first three-book series since his bestselling Border Trilogy that focused on the battle between the DEA and Mexican cartels. Winslow’s City on Fire sets off a different criminal war, when it gets launched September. The sequel City of Dreams comes in September 2022, followed by the third and as-yet-untitled book that follows a year later in fall 2023, all from William Morrow/HarperCollins.

Mumbai, Jan 23 (Ians) Not long ago, Eijaz Khan shocked everyone when he revealed a dark secret from his childhood in the Bigg Boss 14. He shared that he had been touched inappropriately. The actor, who is temporarily out of the house to shoot a web series, claims his housemates used the revelation as a trigger against him, but that has only made him stronger.

International drama series follows a guru in rural India who builds an international empire.

India’s Applause Entertainment is making its first step into international drama series in partnership with Gurinder Chadha’s UK-based Bend It Films & TV and Sunder Aaron’s Us-based Locomotive Global Inc.

The three companies are collaborating on a project entitled Seeker, which traces the rise of a small village guru who becomes a “steely, enigmatic mystic” with a “vast and byzantine empire” that has influence worldwide.

Described as a multi-season drama series, the project is currently being scripted by a writers’ room of international talent.

Exclusive: Applause Entertainment, the Mumbai-based content studio which is behind The Office Indian remake and is rapidly emerging as a leading producer in the territory, has partnered with Gurinder Chadha’s Bend It Film & TV and Sunder Aaron’s Locomotive Global on its first international series.

Seeker is being planned as a multi-season drama series chronicling the life of an Indian guru. It will track the journey of a man who starts with noble intentions, but after his incredible rise to global fame he finds his empire too complicated to handle.

The producers are setting a multi-national writers room for the project and plan to cast both Indian and international actors for a shoot that will take place in various locations within and outside of India.
