The hook for Netflix’s high-concept thriller Don’t Move, produced by Sam Raimi, dangles the potential for a breathless thrill ride. A suicidal woman finds herself at the mercy of a killer who’s injected her with a paralytic, lending a new twist to the conventional cat-and-mouse thriller scenario. The scant 90-minute runtime only furthers the expectation of an adrenaline-pumping genre film. But it quickly becomes clear that there’s nothing here beyond its high concept, not even suspense, resulting in another paper-thin genre exercise in grief.

Iris (Kelsey Asbille) wakes early in the morning next to her sleeping husband and slips out of bed without notice. She doesn’t say a word as she heads into the wilderness to visit the spot where her son Mateo tragically slipped off a cliff. She plans to follow suit until a stranger who calls himself Richard (Finn Wittrock) happens by and talks her off the proverbial ledge.

Here’s a suicidal hypothetical only a horror director would think of: What if the moment a deeply troubled young woman (Kelsey Asbille) was about to throw herself off a cliff, a serial killer (Finn Wittrock) showed up, talked her off the ledge and then abducted the woman for some far grislier purpose? Would this psycho’s plan still count as murder, or because this victim had already made up her mind to die, is there some less damning word for it?

Conspicuously subpar Netflix cheapie “Don’t Move” starts with that contrivance and then piles on another: Once the woman regains consciousness, her captor reveals that he’s injected her with a “special relaxant” that will start to kick in at any moment. From the moment it does, the sedative will take 20 minutes before Iris is completely paralyzed. What would you do in her situation?

Rachel McAdams played Christine Palmer in director Scott Derrickson’s contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the 2016 film Doctor Strange – but there was a time when we were told that Christine would not be appearing the follow-up, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She did end up in that movie, though, and by working on that film, McAdams had the chance to work with director Sam Raimi. Now Deadline reports that Raimi and McAdams are aiming to re-team on the 20th Century Studios horror thriller Send Help, which Raimi will be producing and directing. McAdams is currently in talks to star in the film, but Deadline cautions that these negotiations are in early stages, and nothing is definite at this point.

Back in 2007, it was rumored that Sam Raimi would be producing a fantasy film with a screenplay written by Freddy vs. Jason and Friday the 13th 2009 writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

Back in 2007, it was rumored that Sam Raimi would be producing a fantasy film with a screenplay written by Freddy vs. Jason and Friday the 13th 2009 writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. That didn’t pan out, but a decade later Raimi considered directing a Bermuda Triangle project that once had Shannon and Swift working on the script. Again, that didn’t pan out, with Scott Derrickson and more recently Marc Webb picking up the project after Raimi dropped it. In 2019, it was announced that Raimi would be directing an untitled island horror thriller, working from a script by Shannon and Swift. Then the pandemic hit and Raimi went on to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness… but now he has circled back to the island horror thriller, which is going by the title Send Help. Anne Hathaway stars as a woman whose son has a fatal fall from her balcony, with Jessica Chastain playing her best friend and neighbor. Benoît Delhomme directs the domestic drama “Mothers’ Instinct,” which is a remake of Olivier Masset-Depasse’s 2017 Belgium film “Duelles” based on the novel “Derrière la Haine” by Barbara Abel.

Director Masset-Depasse won a record-breaking nine Magritte Awards from the Belgian Academy including Best Film and Best Director for the original film “Duelles.” Writer Sarah Conradt (“50 States of Fright”) adapted the English language script.

That’s the image above, which doesn’t show us anything other than the fact that the movie stars Yellowstone cast member Kelsey Asbille. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more about Don’t Move soon, though, because Variety reports that the worldwide distribution rights to the film have been acquired by the Netflix streaming service. A release date has not yet been announced.

Netflix has taken worldwide rights on the horror-thriller “Don’t Move,” a new genre entry from producer Sam Raimi.

The project is led by Kelsey Asbille, breakout on the FX anthology series “Fargo” and “Yellowstone,” alongside frequent Ryan Murphy player and “The Big Short’ star Finn Wittrock.

It follows a seasoned serial killer who injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent while the two of them are isolated deep in the forest. As the agent gradually takes over her body, she must run, hide, and fight for her life before her entire nervous system shuts down.

Filmmaking team Brian Netto and Adam Schindler directed the film, having previously delivered the Quibi serial “50 States of Fright.” T.J. Cimfel and David White of “Intruders” wrote the script.

Sam Raimi was so impressed by Lee Cronin’s feature directorial debut, the 2019 horror film The Hole in the Ground, that he not only hired Cronin to contribute to his short-lived anthology series 50 States of Fright, he also gave the filmmaker the chance to write and direct the latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise. In addition to Raimi’s production company, that movie came to us from Warner Bros. Pictures and their subsidiary New Line Cinema. Obviously the studio executives liked what Cronin did with Evil Dead Rise, because The Hollywood Reporter has now broken the news that Cronin is teaming up with John Keville and Macdara Kelleher of Wild Atlantic Pictures to form a genre-focused production company called Doppelgängers, which has secured a first-look deal with New Line Cinema!

Emily Hampshire, whose credits include Schitt’s Creek, The Rig, the 12 Monkeys TV series, the recently released Self Reliance, and the Stephen King adaptation Chapelwaite, has the lead role in the upcoming horror film Mom, which sales and distribution company Blue Finch Films will be presenting to potential buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin next month. The movie will then be having its world premiere at FrightFest Glasgow in March.

The feature directorial debut of Adam O’Brien, who caught attention with his short films Bloodbath, Insane, and Banshee, Mom centers on a struggling mother who is abandoned by her family and partner after a horrific incident. As she falls further into isolation, she begins to be haunted by a sinister entity that is determined to make her relive her darkest moments.

Simone Ashley has picked the follow-up to her breakthrough performance as Kathani “Kate” Sharma in season 2 of the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, as Deadline reports that she has the lead role in the psychological thriller This Tempting Madness, which just wrapped production in Los Angeles.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Jennifer E. Montgomery, who also wrote the screenplay with her husband Andrew M. Davis. Davis has a background in cinematography, including some work on the Sam Raimi-produced horror anthology series 50 States of Fright, so he lensed his wife’s first movie. Inspired by a true story, it sees Ashley taking on the role of a young woman who awakens from a coma grievously injured, memory fractured, her husband arrested. But as she puts together the pieces of her past, she starts to question her own actions — and her perception of reality.

Just announced this week, the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2024 includes horror icon Christina Ricci, who finally gets her well-earned star on the Walk of Fame next year.

Christina Ricci is of course a longtime favorite among horror fans, becoming a household name thanks to her performance as Wednesday Addams in the live action Addams Family movies of the 1990s. She just returned to the world of The Addams Family in the Netflix series “Wednesday,” playing a new character for director Tim Burton.

Ricci also starred in Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow back in 1999, with other notable genre roles including Casper, Bless the Child, Wes Craven’s Cursed, The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, and Showtime’s hit series “Yellowjackets.” Ricci also appeared in Sam Raimi’s series “50 States of Fright,” and most recently starred in the 2022 horror movie Monstrous.

65, the “Adam Driver vs. dinosaurs” movie from the writing and directing duo of Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, didn’t have great success at the box office, but Beck and Woods aren’t letting that disappointment slow them down. They’re about to go into production on a new horror project called Heretic, which is set up at A24 – and The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Hugh Grant is in talks to star in the film!

Beck and Woods have written the script for the film. Details are scarce, but apparently the story has something to do with two missionaries that attempt to convert a dangerous man. There’s no word on who Grant would be playing this scenario, but it would be very cool to see him take on the role of the dangerous man. He has previously said that he finds villain roles to be “more fun” to play.

Sam Raimi‘s Raimi Productions is partnering with Hammerstone Studios (Barbarian) on upcoming horror movie Don’t Move, and THR reports today that Finn Wittrock (“American Horror Story”) and Kelsey Asbille (“Yellowstone”) have just signed on to star.

The sci-fi thriller 65, which is also known as the “Adam Driver vs. dinosaurs” movie (even though the filmmakers were hoping to keep the dinosaur element a surprise) reached theatres back on March 10th, and now it’s time for its digital release. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has confirmed that 65 will be available on digital as of tomorrow, May 2nd. A physical media release on 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD will follow on May 30th.

Cronin, the Irish writer and director of “Evil Dead Rise,” the fifth feature installment in the cult horror series, lights up when discussing gore on set.

“We used 6,500 liters [1,717 gallons] of blood on the movie,” he said. “That is real, sticky, cooked movie blood. We had to hire out this industrial kitchen to cook the blood and keep it fresh, be able to heat it up, because characters are covered in it. There was a lot of management of liquid in this movie. I wanted blood to be a character, so it was important we got the viscosity and look just right.”

The Legendary Entertainment update of John Alan Schwartz’s controversial but commercially successful movie, is being co-written by Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber and directed by Goldhaber.

The original, shown in a documentary-like style centers on pathologist Francis B. Gröss and includes a variety of footage showing gruesome ways of dying. Some of the most iconic scenes were faked, but it also included pre-existing video footage of real deaths or the aftermath of death.
