As a Ben Wheatley stan, Meg 2: The Trench breaks my heart. Too many things going on, not enough Meg action. The majority of Meg action is in the last 20-25 minutes. This film should've been called "Creatures of The Trench", instead. This reminds me of my experience with Jurassic World Dominion where the giant locusts and the humans take center stage. I just want more Megs, goddamnit.
Jason Statham is on autopilot Jason Statham and the supporting actors don't help much either. The performances range from downright poor to unconvincing to okay-ish. The saving grace of this film is its CGI creatures and Statham vs. Meg Part 2. The Statham and Megs showdown isn't even that exciting, to be honest.
The story is painfully generic and super predictable. Of course, I knew what I got myself into. I enjoyed the first Meg! I'm okay with generic or predictable, but at least make it thrilling and fun! This isn't the Ben Wheatley I know. The worst thing any film could do to me is to leave me emotionally detached. It's better to feel hate - at least I felt something. With Meg 2: The Trench, I felt almost nothing.
