In response to the trivia item that notes the plane would have been removed, as documented in Jeff Wadley's book, "Mayday! Mayday!: Aircraft Crashes In The Great Smoky Mtn Nat Park, 1920-2000" (and several articles found on the internet) there are, in fact, at least six planes still in the Smoky Mountains because they are too remote to remove. Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine did an interview with Wadley in 2017 in which it was discussed how hikers could visit these sites.
