Since leaving Y&R in 2019, Lott has guest-starred on the Ava Duvernay series Cherish the Day and the CW’s All-American Homecoming. Sketch comedy aficionado Druski has built a brand around the notion of “could have.” There’s Coulda Been Records, the parody talent-scouting show he started on Instagram Live during the pandemic; the Coulda Been House YouTube reality web series it spawned — which premiered in February with guest stars Snoop Dogg and Chris Brown; and Coulda Fest, his 17,000-person sold-out comedy and music festival held at State Farm Arena in Atlanta in September. But in real life, the comedian, born Drew Desbordes, doesn’t believe in what could have been.
“Nothing is a mistake,” says Druski. “Everything happens for a reason. My whole life is like that.”
Such has been the case for the 30-year-old who has amassed a following of more than 15 million across TikTok and Instagram with his hilariously relatable skits portraying everything from airport debacles to relationship squabbles and athletic fanaticism — the latter of which led to him...

Will Packer does not make films for Hollywood. Though his career has spanned 30 years, and his movies have collectively grossed over $1 billion at the box office, the prolific producer learned this powerful lesson early on.
“When I made that very first movie, ‘Chocolate City,’ I invited all of Hollywood to come to our world premiere,” he told Variety during a sit-down conversation at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival (Mvaaff), where the series premiered. “This is how audacious we were: I did a black-tie premiere in Tallahassee, Florida, on the campus of Florida A&m University (Famu) in the Lee Hall Student Auditorium.”
He adds, “We invited all the Hollywood executives, and none of them showed up, but all the students showed up, and it was packed. It was standing room only. It taught me something about the audience for which I’m making these films. I wasn’t...

Halle Bailey's solo era is finally here. After her praiseworthy leading role in Disney's "The Little Mermaid" live-action remake this past May, the younger half of Chloe x Halle released new music on her own on Aug. 4 with her debut solo single, "Angel."
The 23-year-old singer teased a short clip of the piano-backed track's music video on July 31, which shows nostalgic glimpses of herself from an infant to now. The full visual, directed by Wendy Morgan, shows the songstress in elegant scenes surrounded by water and dancers as she pours her heart out with lyrics like: "Black girl here, Black girl with the Black girl hair / Took a little sun kiss just to look like this / God-sent, you're an angel / Angel, angel, angel."
"Angel" marks the first track Bailey has ever released without her sister, Chlöe, and arrives more than three years after the sister duo released their sophomore album,...

It will be a surprise to no one that LeBron James is setting records. After making more than $1.4 billion at the box office, producer Will Packer has gotten into the streaming game with “Praise This.”
The Peacock original marks Packer’s first time producing a movie that wasn’t destined for cinemas. While the new distribution plan might seem like a reaction to the hit or miss theatrical business — or the kind of pivot that would happen after a box office bomb, which Packer has yet to suffer, by the way — that’s not what’s behind the change in strategy.
“Malleable” is a word Packer has found himself using quite often in reference to the current state of moviemaking.
“I’ve had a lot of success with movies that were moderately-budgeted breakout theatrical hits,” he tells Variety over tea at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City. “But there are some of my movies that were successful theatrically five to 10 years ago that...

Chlöe's mentor and confidant Beyoncé once said, "You know you that b*tch when you cause all this conversation." These days, Chlöe is used to being a trending topic on social media. Not that the 24-year-old singer, songwriter, and actor pays attention to it, seeing as she occasionally removes apps like Twitter and Instagram from her phone when the negative comments get overwhelming.
"It's been hard, difficult, [and] unsettling," Chlöe tells Popsugar of dealing with constant judgment from some of her biggest critics online. "I could go down the whole negative path but I have to learn to not really care and to know that as long as I am being authentically and unapologetically myself, then I'm good."
"Everything that I'm doing right now I've prayed for and God has given it to me."

Chloe Bailey has made a name for herself in the music industry as one half of the musical sibling duo Chloe x Halle and her recent solo album "In Pieces." Now in her latest film "Praise This," the "Grow-ish" star's music is merging with her burgeoning acting career, as she plays an up-and-coming singer named Sam who dreams of one day getting her big break. However, her plan goes off track when her father forces her to move from Los Angeles to Atlanta to live with her cousin Jess (Anjelika Washington). But after joining Jess's praise team, Sam realizes the group could be her ticket to stardom if she helps them win a national championship competition.

In the pleasantly amusing “Praise This,” Chloe Bailey is the self professed nonreligious Sam, a musical artist in the making who finds her niche in Atlanta’s competitive gospel youth choir scene. Director Tina Gordon crafts a musical that’s carried through by a charming cast and highly entertaining ensemble performances. Streaming April 7 on Peacock, “Praise This” adds a mostly delightful entry to the genre, even if it doesn’t offer a unique take. More successfully it acts as a winning introductory calling card to the acting and musical talents of its rising star, the slightly-older sister of upcoming “The Little Mermaid” actor Halle Bailey and one-half of the sibling R&b duo Chloe x Halle.

After much speculation about her love life, Chlöe is putting all those romance rumors to bed. The "In Pieces" singer has been linked to stars like Gunna and Quavo in recent years, but according to her, she's not seriously dating anyone at the moment.
"Sadly, I have not been seeing anybody for almost a year now," the "Praise This" star told Cosmopolitan in her April 2023 cover story. "Your girl has just been working on herself, and I wish I was lying. I tell myself, God, I know what you're doing. You're sifting out the Bs, so I can find good lovin'. When you don't know your worth and when you haven't mastered the art of loving yourself, you question why others would love you."
Chlöe added, "I think that's why I'm single right now, so I can grasp that concept a little more because I can't expect someone to love...

Chlöe is preparing to take over the music industry. The star is releasing her debut full-length album, "In Pieces," on March 31, and she feels the sky is the limit in terms of where the project can go.
For the 24-year-old artist, making a project as big as "In Pieces" felt like "creatively birthing a child," she tells Popsugar. It's also been a long time coming. "I was working on that for three years," Chlöe (real name Chloe Bailey) says, recalling the slow-burning process of crafting her first LP. The star has definitely been busy during this time frame, including roles in "Swarm" and the upcoming movie "Praise This," which dives into the world of competitive gospel choirs.
Working on multiple creative projects at once has been a bit of a balancing act, to say the least. Recording sessions for "In Pieces" often blurred into filming "Praise This," sometimes requiring her to forfeit sleep.

Chlöe is solidifying her solo career with her long-awaited debut album. The singer announced the upcoming arrival of "In Pieces" earlier this year, breaking the big news on Jan. 24 with a cinematic 17-second teaser showing herself balancing scales in a red latex dress. In the song that plays in the clip, Chlöe sings, "Wear my heart on my sleeve / they all say I'm naive / but it's better than nothing / when did it all get so heavy now?"

This post contains spoilers for Prime Video's series "Swarm."
"Swarm" is one of the wildest new shows on TV this year. The Prime Video series from Janine Nabers and Donald Glover follows an obsessive fan of the fictional pop star Ni'Jah (who is very clearly a stand-in for Beyoncé) who goes on a killing spree after losing her only friend. The shocking seven-episode show has plenty of talented people on board: "Judas and the Black Messiah" actress Dominique Fishback stars as the fan in question, Dre, while celebrities including Chloe Bailey, Billie Eilish, Paris Jackson, and more make appearances.
But the show also has some surprising talent behind the camera: Malia Obama, credited as Malia Ann, makes her TV writing debut with the show's fifth episode. The daughter of former President Barack Obama reportedly graduated from Harvard in 2021 after majoring in Visual and Environmental Studies, and ended up on the...

Dominique Fishback's normally sweet personality has gotten the axe in Prime Video's "Swarm." Instead, she's embodying an unhinged stan of a Beyoncé-esque artist named Ni'Jah. The new thriller series - from the minds of cocreators/executive producers Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, and a team of writers that includes Malia Obama - stars the 31-year-old as Dre, an overly passionate fan whose obsession with Ni'Jah, the world's biggest pop star, sends her on a peculiar cross-country journey to protect the superstar's good name and reputation. The series also features Chloë Bailey, who plays Dre's sister, Marissa; and "Snowfall"'s Damson Idris, who portrays Marissa's boyfriend, Khalid.
Interestingly enough, Fishback was never the intended lead for "Swarm." According to Vanity Fair, the actor was originally approached to play Bailey's role (which comes as a surprise to the singer who says she "cannot imagine Dre being somebody else"), but...

Art imitates life for Chloe Bailey, who stars in the upcoming movie "Praise This" as an ambitious young singer named Sam whose music career seems to be taking off in a huge way. There are some big differences about her life and Sam's, though - Bailey is already a massive star, and also, "Praise This" follows Sam's journey into the world of competitive gospel youth choirs.
The trailer, released on March 6, finds Sam unhappily stuck in Atlanta after being sent away from Los Angeles for the summer by her concerned father to live with her upbeat cousin Jess (Anjelika Washington). Don’t count her out: Chlöe Bailey is merging her passion for acting and music with her next project. On Monday, it was announced that Bailey will star in an upcoming film adaptation of Girl From the North Country, the musical based on Bob Dylan’s music, Variety reports.

Chlöe Bailey, Olivia Colman and Woody Harrelson will lead a big screen adaptation of “Girl From the North Country,” a Broadway musical featuring Bob Dylan songs.
Conor McPherson, the playwright behind the stage show, is writing and directing the film. “Girl From the North Country” uses Dylan’s expansive music library — including “Forever Young,” “All Along the Watchtower” and “Like a Rolling Stone” — to score a Depression-era story about Midwesterners who cross paths at a turning point in their lives. Despite positive reviews, the musical struggled to sell tickets in its post-covid run and closed after its months-long stint on Broadway.
Blueprint Pictures is backing the film, with executives Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin serving as producers. CAA Media Finance will represent the film’s domestic sales with Rocket Science launching international sales at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.

Blueprint Pictures is backing the film, with executives Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin serving as producers. CAA Media Finance will represent the film’s domestic sales with Rocket Science launching international sales at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.

4.4 billion were spent by film and TV productions in the state of Georgia in the 2022 fiscal year, a new record for the state, the Georgia Film Office and Governor Brian Kemp announced Monday.
Georgia hosted 412 productions, represented by 32 feature films, 36 independent films, 269 television and episodic productions, 42 commercials and 33 music videos between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022, the state reported. Both the total spending and the overall number of productions are up from last year, in which the previous record 4 billion was spent and 366 productions flocked to the state, despite the pandemic still slowing production and despite controversial voting laws in the state that led some in Hollywood to reconsider filming there.
Studios and support service companies provide additional infrastructure and jobs not included in productions’ direct spending.

Upfronts can be comforting and/or dull in their familiarity. Here come the old TV shows, the new ones, and Jimmy Kimmel. Variation isn’t necessary because the goal remains the same: Hold an advertiser’s attention while you reach into their budgets. Upfronts go where media buyers go and from here on out, one place they’re going is to the movies.
This year, the upfronts accommodated the (ad-supported) streamers and all that they contain — including movies, both ones original to the platforms as well as those that receive a theatrical release. Every major streamer has announced its intention (if not the reality) of lower-priced AVOD tiers, all but promising Wall Street that advertising will become a primary revenue stream. That means Disney, NBCUniversal, and Paramount Global had a lot more to talk about — and that advertisers will be keeping a much closer eye on their movie slates.

Legendary action director John Woo is making quite the Hollywood comeback. He’s currently working with actor Joel Kinnaman for his new western pic “Silent Night” that is already in production, but another high-profile project will see the Hong Kong filmmaker take a crack at remaking one of his seminal movies from the 1980s.
Peacock has officially announced today that Woo will direct a new film based on his Hong Kong action classic, “The Killer,” a film that follows an isolated assassin who pines for a woman he blinded during a previous hit and is one of the more action-packed films the director made before heading to Hollywood to make things like “Face/Off.”
Not only that, but the film from Universal Pictures will debut on the streaming service sometime in 2023 which will also see the LeBron James origin story “Shooting Star” and the church choir drama “Praise This.”

For the first time on any streaming-only platform, new episodes of all Bravo shows will be available day-after-air to Peacock’s premium subscribers. The NBC streamer Peacock has revealed three upcoming original films set to premiere on the service in 2023, including projects from LeBron James, John Woo, and a Chloe Bailey-starring feature from Will Packer. Each film is part of the previously announced collaboration with Universal Pictures to produce several Peacock exclusives. The first is Shooting Stars, made in collaboration with LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Company. It follows James’ origin story as a high school basketball player and is currently being filmed in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. The second is Praise This, from Girls Trip producer Packer. It stars singer-actress Bailey as the newest member of a community’s church choir. As Bailey’s character pushes the members in a more modern musical direction, her involvement with an irreverent hip-hop star may kick off (or jeopardize) her own music career. Lastly, famed director Woo returns to reimagine and direct his own classic,...

John Woo will return to direct “The Killer” after all.
Following over a decade of discussions around the English-language adaptation of his 1989 classic film, Woo confirmed that he will helm a reimagining for Peacock in collaboration with Universal Pictures. “The Killer” is about a seasoned assassin who takes on one last job, during which he accidentally blinds a nightclub singer. In order to pay for an operation to fix her sight, the killer for hire agrees to assassinate a high-ranking triad boss, just as the police are tracking him down. Chow Yun-fat, Sally Yeh, and Danny Lee star in the original.
In 2018, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o was set to lead a gender-swapped remake as the assassin; there has been no word yet on official casting for the Peacock Original. The new version will arrive on the streamer next year.
