Let’s face it: a killer Santa is never not going to look kind of funny. Every entry of the Silent Night, Deadly Night saga knows this (although indignant protestors in 1984 apparently did not). And each opts to deal with this fundamental visual quandary in a markedly different way.
In the original 1984 film, the Santa costume is subverted into a symbol of intrinsic evil, as seen through the eyes of poor Billy Chapman (Robert Brian Wilson). Billy, who looks more like a Patriots linebacker than he does Burl Ives, eventually dons the Santa suit and is subsumed by his own dark thoughts. Try as it might to paint him as a sinister figure by making him muscular and shrouding him in shadow, though, he still looks patently absurd. By Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 3: Better Watch Out! (1989), the homicidal maniac of the second installment, Billy’s little brother Ricky,...

As families begin their holiday festivities, ABC started its Wednesday night with a presentation of the classic 1970 stop-motion feature Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town narrated by Fred Astaire, which earned a 0.5 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 2.82 million viewers. It was followed by even more Yuletide cheer with a fresh episode of The Great Christmas Light Fight, primetime’s only original program last night. It was down a tick compared with last week’s average of the reality competition series, per Nielsen Live+Same Day fast affiliates.
The other broadcast networks were filled with encores. CBS’ repeat of Holly Dolly Christmas saw the night’s largest audience, netting 3.27 million viewers. The network ended the night with a repeat of its Garth & Trisha Live! holiday special.
Elsewhere, NBC’s night was occupied by repeats of its Chicago franchise, while Fox aired back to back reruns of I Can See Your Voice.

The White Stripes dropped a 90-minute Yule log video on Tuesday set to songs from the band’s recently released Greatest Hits compilation album — along with acoustic tracks, B-sides, and the band’s Christmas tune “Candy Cane Children.”
The video, directed by Noah Sterling, features several looping animations ranging from a more innocuous image of a family sitting by the fire watching TV with pets (and raccoons and a docile cougar), to creepier shots of demons emerging from the walls and a slender man-like figure readying dinner in its Christmas-themed cave.
