The First of May (1999)
a heartwarming film
I just saw this movie as the opening film at our town's first ever film festival here in NM. This was an independent film made by a gentleman in Florida. I knew that Mickey Rooney and Julie Harris were in it but was surprised by Charles Nelson Reilly. He was fun to see. I thought the movie was well done and had something for everyone. The young man who played Cory was perfect for his part. I thought Julie Harris was wonderful dealing with the problems of the aged. It was also a good film promoting the idea of adoption. It showed how some kids fall through the cracks. Some of the wisdom in this movie will be remembered for a long time. The rest of the cast was good as well as the cinematography. They did an excellent job with the real circus footage versus the film footage. Fun for the whole family!
Holes (2003)
A must see movie with something for everyone...
I waited for this movie since last year because it was Scott Plank's final feature film. I was not disappointed. I came out of the theater feeling good and a little nostalgic due to the tribute they added for him in the closing credits. Even though this film was rated for the younger audience I think people of any age can relate to it and enjoy it. The cast of characters was great and the ending credits have a little surprise. This movie has many good a-ha's in it. Will want the video for sure.
The Scorpion King (2002)
Great action movie!
Really enjoyed seeing this one-even the 2nd time around. I think Branscombe Richmond should have gotten more publicity as the brother Jesup. His part was good even though it was short. Lots of humor here. A must have on video.
For My Daughter's Honor (1996)
This movie was ok but I had a hard time with Gary playing Coach Nash...
This movie was shown on Lifetime as For My Daughter's Honor. I had a hard time watching Gary Cole playing this part. He did a believable job, but I think the fact that the school kept brushing it off and his wife never seemed to notice just made me squirm. I think the girl who played Amy did a good job, but her character didn't seem to have enough backbone to get out of a bad situation. It would be good to use to make girls aware of what's appropriate and what's not.
The Disappearance of Vonnie (1994)
very interesting...
This story takes place in Wisconsin. I was half heartedly watching my tape when I heard the name Appleton. I wasn't sure where it was taking place until I heard them say Green Bay & then I figured it was Wisconsin. Watching further confirmed it.
Anxiously awaiting the outcome I could really feel Corrine's frustration. I did not know it was based on fact until the end. It left me glad but sad and wanting to know more.
The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh (1979)
i thought it was cute...
I really didn't know what to expect but this movie was cheesy fun. I'm a 70's child so it was cool to relive some of that. Of course I bought this because Branscombe was in it. You can see how young he was. Loved the entrance he made...
The Mystic Warrior (1984)
I thought this was good!
I wanted to watch this for Branscombe and I was pleased by
Robert Beltran's role also as well as Rion Hunter. Good storyline...some of the effects were a little hokey but I liked the details.
