The Man Who Cried (1993)
Great performances and great writing
What else is there? Ciaran Hinds is extraordinary, again. This story is
complex, difficult, and compassionate. The screenplay is outstanding. This
movie moved me. All the performances were great, including the ones by the
children.
Amanda Root and the actress who played Florrie wrench my
heart.
Ciaran Hinds is the best actor working today. Yet another outstanding
performance.
See it and open your heart.

Persuasion (1995)
Ciaran Hinds just moved to the top of my list.
Everything about this movie is excellent. Now, does anyone know where I might find Ciaran Hinds, so we can have a beer and look out together over the ocean? He's perfection in this movie. This is a great movie made from a great book. What more can one ask for?
A River Runs Through It (1992)
Chills bumps rise on my arms just remembering the closing narration.
My scalp tingles thinking of the final scene of this sublime work of art. Robert Redford is a genius. Redford knows what nature knows; that life is in every rock and stream, in every wide blue piece of sky and spread of lush green trees. The story is unsurpassed as perfect Americana, capturing all the longing and melancholy we all feel when remembering the joys of our lives. Wordsworth's words in the scene between Norman and his Dad are the movie's anthem. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I AM SO THANKFUL FOR WRITERS!! I AM SO THANKFUL FOR THE ART OF ROBERT REDFORD!! Words cannot express how the totality of this film moves me. It is a treasure. A deep thank you to those of you who created it for us.
Havana (1990)
One of my favorites because...
Redford movies traditionally have strong female characters; Inside Daisy Clover; This Property Condemned; Out of Africa; Up Close and Personal; The Horse Whisperer....and this one.
Lena Olin and Redford make me believe these two could fall in love this quickly. I think it got bad reviews because the ending was not male protagonist friendly. Avoiding a spoiler, I love the message here. She is some woman. Loved by two. Loves two. What else could she possibly do? What else could he possibly do? This man, Jack, will be seated facing the door forever. What a love story. Their scenes together are gritty and fleshy and real. Raul Julia's passion echoes the backdrop. Turmoil...in Cuba, and in the hearts of these lovers.
I LOVED IT!!!!
