Jawan (2023)
9/10
Massy but relevant!
7 September 2023
Time really flew while watching Jawan. It is amazing to see Shahrukh Khan presented in a form that was never seen before. His older avatar is especially badass and steals the show. Baap baap hi hota hai! All his entries are a hoot!! There are several clap worthy and seeti maar sequences in the film.

Talking about the other performances Deepika Padukone shines even in a special appearance. Nayanthara makes an assured debut in the Hindi cinema. The rest of the girls specially Sanya Malhotra is brilliant. Vijay Sethupathy has done a pretty good job as the main antagonist but expected more from him. Sunil Grover is wasted in a small role.

Anirudh's background score amplifies the impact of action sequences which have been executed brilliantly. The music goes well along with the flow of the story with songs Aararaari Raaro and Zinda Banda being the pick of the lot.

Apart from the technical aspects the film makes a strong statement raising several relevant issues. It was really nice to see Shahrukh raise his voice through his craft. Jawan is a tight slap to our system showing it the mirror. In one of the sequences he even talks straight to the audience urging them to use the power of their vote wisely.

Kudos to the entire team 👏 Overall Jawan is a technically sound film with the massiest SRK and an important message. The only flip side being the convenient screenplay!

Nearly flawless!
1 September 2023
I know I'm late to the party but that cannot stop me from raving about Kohrra.

A slow burn murder mystery that keeps you hooked thanks to the brilliant execution and terrific performances.

Shot in the real locations there is not a single sequence that seemed out of place. There are no actors here but characters playing their parts to perfection.

It is easily one of the finest shows in Indian web space. Content like this is worth a strong recommendation and goes on to show that we do not have any dearth of good stories.

A huge shout out to the director Randeep Jha and the entire team!

Nearly FLAWLESS!!

UNMISSABLE for cinephiles.

PS: Watch it in its original language to get the real flavour of Punjab.

A hit and miss!
10 July 2023
Konkona Sen Sharma's short is easily the best segment of Lust Stories 2. Tillotama Shome and Amruta Subhash are two powerhouses of acting yet so underrated. They completely steal the show here! In fact I wouldn't have complained if this was the entire film itself.

The other segment worth watching is the one directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma. This story has a shock value with a terrifying performance by Kumud Mishra. Seasoned performer Kajol doesn't disappoint either.

The rest of the two stories directed by Sujoy Ghosh and R Balki miss the bus and can be skipped. Specially the one by Sujoy look completely out of place.

Overall Lust Stories 2 is a hit and miss!!

A refreshing rom-com!
1 July 2023
I was pleasantly surprised by Satyaprem Ki Katha. A very mature take on love, marriage and relationships underlining a social taboo.

The film starts on a light note but gets serious as it progresses. Performances elevate the film and both the leads shine. This is one of the best performances from Kartik Aaryan. But it is Kiara Advani who steals the show. She not only looks breathtakingly beautiful but delivers a brilliant performance as well. What an actress she has proved to be!

Music is pretty good too with Le Aaunga sung by Arijit Singh being the best of the lot. Amongst the rest Aaj Ke Baad is the one you carry along with you.

Director Sameer Vidwans makes an impressive debut in Hindi cinema. This hatke romantic comedy certainly deserves a watch.

UNMISSABLE!!
7 June 2023
Scoop is easily the best show to come out in recent times. Another masterpiece from director Hansal Mehta who is one of the best storytellers of our times. The detailing and honesty with which he tells a story and creates his characters is commendable. The show sheds light on the fall of journalism ethics which is more relevant than ever today.

Karishma Tanna becomes Jigna Vora, the crime journalist she is playing here. Her performance will certainly find a place amongst the best when the year ends. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub is a treat to watch. The rest of the cast shines too. The background score by Achint elevates the scenes especially the emotional ones.

Anubhav Sinha is back with another relevant film
30 May 2023
Bheed is an insight into the lockdown and its impact. The film lays bare the real picture of our society which is divided on the lines of religion, cast and class. All is not lost though as humanity saves the day.

The film is another feather to Anubhav Sinha's cap after Mulk, Article 15, Thappad and Anek. His second innings is really impressive where he continues to make one hard hitting film after the other. He might have worked with different actors here but the impact remains the same.

An ensemble of actors comprising Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana, Pankaj Kapur, Dia Mirza and others perform really well and deliver a socially relevant and important film.

Dahaad (2023– )

An engaging investigation drama!
19 May 2023
Dahaad keeps you engaged in spite of its slow pace and running time. Thanks to the effective storytelling by the directors Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi. I just wished this investigation drama had more of the backstory that gave birth to such a psychopath.

The casting is top notch here with brilliant performances across the board. Vijay Varma steals the show with his cold blooded act. Gulshan Devaiah and Sohum Shah are terrific. It was great to see Sonakshi Sinha coming to her own smashing casteism and patriarchy. All the other supporting actors shine in their roles.

Overall enjoyed a show after a long time. Prime Video has another winner in their hands.

A lovely family drama!
7 March 2023
Gulmohar is a beautiful film. An emotional family drama with some lovely performances and dialogues. It's truly a delight to watch Manoj Bajpayee, Sharmila Tagore and Amol Palekar together in one film.

Bajpayee keeps reminding us that he is one of the best we have. Such a moving performance. Outstanding! It was a pleasure watching Sharmila on screen after a long time and she is excellent. In fact she along with Bajpayee pretty much stole the scene. It is a delight to watch Amol Palekar even while playing a grey role in this one. We have hardly seen Simran Bagga in Hindi cinema and she is so good. All the other actors including Suraj Sharma are fine too.

Overall this one is a must watch especially if you crave quality family dramas. Rajiv Chittella makes an assured debut as a director.

A smart entertaining show!
17 February 2023
Farzi is one of the best original shows to have come on the Indian screen. Raj and DK have delivered again after The Family Man and this one actually exceeded my expectations to be honest.

It checked all the right boxes for me be it smart writing, engaging screenplay, terrific performances and superb dialogues. Sunny and Firoz's camaraderie, Michael's hindi and his hilarious segments with Gahlot, Mansoor's funny english and Nanu's endearing presence were the highlights for me.

Shahid Kapoor reminds us yet again that he is one of the finest actors in contemporary times. His character truly comes to its own towards the end having carried the rage all the while. Bhuvan Arora as his partner in crime is brilliant. Vijay Sethupathi and Kay Kay Menon are a delight to watch. Amol Palekar is heartwarming as always, Evergreen.

Inspite of its length there is not a single dull moment to be found. All in all it is a solid entertaining show that is absolutely binge worthy. This is easily one of the best shows I have watched in a long time. A winner all the way!

Pathaan (2023)

King is back!!
28 January 2023
I had my expectations in check before watching Pathaan. I went to watch it for the love of SRK and Deepika. They didn't disappoint a bit.

What an inspiring comeback from Shahrukh Khan! It would be an understatement to say he was impressive in this action avatar. Be it the looks, action or dialogues he totally nailed it. Needless to say this is the fittest we have seen him.

Deepika Padukone has never looked hotter and she goes all out in probably her first action film.

It was a pleasure to watch John Abraham as the antagonist. He is a worthy opponent with a strong screen presence and dialogue delivery.

Overall the trio of SRK, Deepika and John provide a bang for your buck!

Beauty with a soul!

Do watch Avatar The Way Of Water if you haven't already. It doesn't really matter if you are one of the very few people like me who haven't seen the first part that came way back in 2009.

This film has an emotional depth along with the gorgeous visuals. It has you captivated for the entire duration in spite of its length being over 3 hours. It is easily the most beautiful film you would have ever seen leaving you in complete awe.

Watch it on the biggest screen possible. It is really needless to say that it is a masterpiece and technical marvel. Might watch this one again.

A Chilling Thriller!
18 December 2022
What a brilliant thriller Blurr is! It keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire duration. Full marks to the director Ajay Bahl for creating an atmosphere that is just perfect for a dark film like this. He is greatly aided by some terrific cinematography and background score.

Taapsee Pannu has strongly established herself as an undisputed queen in this genre. She has also turned a producer with this one. Abhilash Thapliyal is a complete revelation here! Watch out for his performance. At last but the not the least it is always good to watch Gulshan Devaiah. Overall I really enjoyed this chilling thriller!

A beautiful piece of art
5 December 2022
Qala is like poetry in motion. A dark psychological musical drama that puts the important issue of mental health to the fore. The setting, costumes, cinematography and music are all to the point. Director Anvitaa Dutt has created the bygone era perfectly. Tripti Dimri shines and delivers one of the best performances in recent times. She is a star! Swastika Mukherjee reminds us again what a brilliant actor she is. Babil Khan makes an assuring debut. Looking forward to more of him in the near future. Amit Sial is adequately good. Music plays an integral part in the film. It is like an important character in itself. Amit Trivedi does not disappoint and delivers a classy soundtrack. This one is for the shelves. All in all this film is a cinematic gem that deserves a watch.

Goodbye (I) (2022)

An emotional family drama!
4 December 2022
Goodbye works both as a family drama and satire. It is one of the rare films that talk about death. The film initially has a light satirical approach but turns to an emotional watch towards the later half. The film boasts of some good performances and music. There is still no other actor like Amitabh Bachchan. This is yet another masterclass from the legend. Rashmika Mandanna gives a good performance in her first hindi film but her accent sticks out like a sore thumb. Neena Gupta is evergreen. Sunil Grover is delightful even in a brief role. Music by Amit Trivedi stands out. All songs are good and go well along with the story. Director Vikas Bahl will make you cry with some heart touching scenes. Watch this one with your family.

A classy mass entertainer!

Vikram Vedha is a classy mass entertainer!

The film keeps the spirit of the age old legend of Vikram Betaal alive. It has a strong story backed with enough twists and turns to keep you invested.

Hrithik Roshan is a total dhamaal and steals the show. It's a delight to watch him in this massy avatar. He has an unmatchable screen presence. You simply cannot take your eyes off him. He alone is the strongest reason to watch the film.

Saif Ali Khan is very good and matches Hrithik at every step. They both kill with this one!

Having not seen the original helped as I was intrigued throughout. Go for it!!

A visual extravaganza!!
11 September 2022
Brahmastra watched. To be honest I was a bit skeptical about the film after going through some of the reviews. All my fears were coming to be true during the initial portions of the film. But slowly and gradually I was hooked on to the proceedings and the time then flew by.

I am glad that we now have an answer to the likes of Marvel & DC. This is the film we should be proud of and it certainly raises the bar of Indian cinema. Ayan Mukerji and the makers have to be applauded for the sheer scale and vision of the film.

The music, sound, VFX, cinematography and the mythological elements are all impressive. The only cringe worthy thing in the film were perhaps the dialogues which even ruined the much awaited cameo of SRK.

Needless to say the director actor duo of Ayan Mukerji & Ranbir Kapoor is one of the best we have and they continue to impress with their third outing. To conclude the start to this Astraverse has been a delight to watch. A visual extravaganza!!

Meets expectations!
28 August 2022
Binge watched Delhi Crime Season 2. It is a worthy successor to season 1 that keeps you engaged thanks to the investigation drama and performances. Shefali Shah is the star of the show. She is simply terrific. Rajesh Tailang, Rasika Dugal, Tillotama Shome and the rest of the cast are all brilliant.

This season sheds light on the class and caste divide existing in our society while also showing the humane side of police force effectively again. Overall it lives up to the immense hype created by season 1. Though found the first season more gripping and intense. Nonetheless this season is largely watchable.

A Masterpiece!
12 August 2022
Laal Singh Chaddha wins your heart. A wholesome entertainer that is essentially a love story. While the first half made me laugh the second made me cry. Right from storytelling to performances, music and cinematography the film delivers on all counts. Aamir Khan doesn't disappoint and made me reach out to my handkerchief atleast twice towards the end. Cinematically the film celebrates India and everyone should watch it. Also loved the way significant historical events are incorporated in the film. It's an irony that a film of this sorts is being targeted in the name of hatred. Might watch this masterpiece again!

Delicious dark comedy!
6 August 2022
Darlings is an engaging dark comedy with the serious issue of domestic violence in the backdrop. The film scores brownie points in the execution. Performances from Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah & Vijay Varma elevate it further. Alia & Shefali knock it out with their chemistry. Overall it's a relevant watch in the garb of a comedy.

777 Charlie is a heartwarming story of a man and his dog. Dont miss this incredible journey of unconditional love. Actor Rakshit Shetty and the labrador steal your heart away with their amazing performances. Also watch out for some lovely music and terrific cinematography. At the end I would say do watch it for the love of Charlie Chaplin and dogs.

Heartwarming, relatable and endearing!
25 July 2022
Watch Ghar Waapsi on Disney Plus Hotstar if you haven't already. A beautiful relatable middle class family drama. The heartwarming show with its endearing characters and lovely performances wins you over. It also sheds lights on the mad race in the corporate world. It's all about setting your priorities right. And at the end it's all about your family and friends.

Vishal Vashishtha shines and steals the show. What a fine actor who deserves to be seen more. This show on homecoming is strongly recommended. What sets it apart from the other family dramas is it's approach. One of the best shows in recent times.

Disappointing!
23 July 2022
Watched Dr. Arora on SonyLIV. Found the show a bit underwhelming. Had expected it to be a sensitive drama about a sexologist and his patients. It instead tries hard to be a comedy drama failing on both the counts. It works best when the lead Kumud Mishra is around.

The sub plots fail to engage and drag in places. Watch out for Vidya Malvade though whose track with Kumud Mishra is one of the strong points of Dr. Arora. The show has some lovely music as well. Overall even with all the noble intentions it falters in execution.

A must watch!
10 July 2022
The viral fever has come up with a brilliant show Saas Bahu Aachar Pvt Ltd on Zee5. It is not your regular saas-bahu drama. It's a heartwarming story of a woman who rises against all the odds and becomes an entrepreneur with her 'saas' being her biggest cheerleader. Her struggles are brought to life by Amruta Subhash's beautiful performance. Another actor to look out for is Anjana Sukhani. Anup Soni & Yamini Das are excellent playing Amrita's ex husband and mother in law respectively. The show has some love dialogues and background score. Binge watch this one with your entire family.

A breezy show!
4 July 2022
Loved Eternally Confused And Eager For Love streaming on Netflix India.

A breezy show about a confused guy looking for a relationship. Vihaan Samat aptly plays the self loathing and sabotaging lead.

The voice over by Jim Sarbh playing the imaginary wizard who guides Vihaan is simply superb!

Didn't realise the time while watching the show. It's a binge watch that's relatable, light and funny.

Rest of the cast comprising of Rahul Bose, Suchitra Pillai & Ankur Rathee is lovely!

A socially relevant thriller!
3 July 2022
Finally watched Operation Romeo on Netflix. This was one film I was waiting for since I saw its trailer. The film lacked aggressive promotional strategy and was released in the theatres. It went unnoticed and didn't work at the box office unfortunately. Even now it's arrival on Netflix has been without any noise.

After watching the film I can say it met my expectations. It satisfies on many counts. Firstly as a socially relevant film about moral policing. Secondly as a romantic thriller/ revenge drama that has you gripped right from the word go.

All the actors have done a fantastic job. Sharad Kelkar is terrific. The lead actors Sidhant Gupta and Vedika Pinto who debuts here are impressive. They share an adorable chemistry. Sidhant gets many moments to shine and has a brilliant transition in the film. Bhumika Chawla is good.

Director Shashant Shah has made a really good film. Quality content like this certainly deserves an audience. Hopefully with good word of mouth it now gets love and appreciation.
