No Escape Room (2018)
Realistic Puzzles
I liked how the puzzles in the rooms were so realistic as to what you'd find in an actual escape room attraction.
I agree with some other reviews that the second half got a bit muddled with all the cool ideas that they were trying to tie together (though I really liked some of them), and that the second half felt a bit more obviously TV-movie-ish.
But I liked the end. Sure, it didn't answer any questions, but it was fun.
Overall yes recommend. Not perfect but worth a view.
February (2015)
Terrifying Tension
Almost every scene is tense in its own way, and over time it's the tension which is so damn creepy.
This movie is worth watching for that effective use of tension alone.
Spring (2014)
Supremely acted
Very good, great acting, unique story and filming. Loved the characters, including the two leads but also the old guy. Great the way the story unfolded.
The Hole in the Ground (2019)
Slow burn creepy
Good acting, and an atmospheric, almost Shining-like feel.
Nice twists too Makes you question certain assumptions as it unfolds.
Novel idea, the hole, etc.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Oh c'mon, this was fun!
This movie was bad-*ss. Not a film festival award winner by any means, no doubt, more of just a simple shoot-em-up good-time flick.
(Too bad there's so much smut talk from the airmen at the beginning, because that's really the only thing that makes it not safe for pre-teen kids, it was surprisingly explicit.)
I def recommend this movie, fun watch.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
There is no level on which this is not brilliant.
It is good. And as it develops it keeps getting gooder.
I was floored by the depth written in to this quote unquote story.
Head, shoulders, knees, and toes.
Little Joe (2019)
Allegory and Tinnitus.
Great fun.
The ringing noise is bad, yes.
But the movie is good, yes.
Afflicted (2013)
Yo that was cray cray.
Definitely a new take on the, er, topic. Very well done. Give it a go. Enjoyed the whole thing. Fun when it all starts happening, then dark.
Earthquake Bird (2019)
9 stars
Deeply intense, hypnotic, beautiful. As much about being as it is about nothingness.
Unsettling in that far too much of it is so relatable.
There is an extraordinary level of closeness captured, intimacy experienced, that is later seen to be a mirage, an evil distortion. However, what makes the movie unique is that it comes full circle and realizes with you that the intimacy was real, but only if you are ready to recognize a level of intimacy involved in upsetting and disturbing moments in life.
Kadaver (2020)
7 for originality
Should have a higher rating. Quite original setting and feel. Several parts creepy in a unique way. No not perfect, but by far not a waste of your time.
Lake Mungo (2008)
Goon 'n creepy
Very well made, puts other fake documentaries to shame!
Nice creepy feel. No jump scares per se, but a slow zoom into "what the hell is that?!" in a way that majorly gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Yes do recommend.
American Jihad (2017)
Well-made doc, important topic
Highly watchable. Fascinating to hear about the path some Americans took towards Islamic radicalism, and the role of social media in that process.
The last few minutes of it presented bold suggestions that would probably be effective in dealing with these issues, but I'm not sure enough people in the current political climate will be ready to listen.
Rewind (2019)
Incredibly well put together
Incredibly well made film, especially considering the topic.
Dear lord I cried when that therapist guy talked about the yamaka, and several other times.
Slender Man (2018)
Yeh pretty weak.
Maybe mildly scary if you're 13 years old or something.
I understand the low stars, such a waste to do this to a true modern icon of foreboding terror.
Please someone remake and give the legend his due.
Empathy, Inc. (2018)
Watch it and judge for yourself, you will understand.
No not perfect, but well worth the watch. Enough new here to justify the chance that you still may not like every moment. Take that chance in this case.
