Alexander the Great
I like the flow of this historic tale.
Alexander has a lot going for it straight from the beginning. True , his early years are put aside but not his moments of glory. The earlier films about Alexander covered his youth with the 1950's film with Richard Burton and later version with Colin Farrell in 2004. These films worked better at times but were no great box office hits. In this docuseries we get to see those around him and the workings of a shattered Persian Empire. Outnumbered in many way but the mind set of strategy overcame the obstacles. Thanks to Netflix we get to see a six part series of a Conqueror who knew no bounds and was smart enough to spare and preserve that which he ruled. The added feature is objective views of historians as the story unfolds.
Schlafende Hunde (2023)
Thankfully it's only six episodes, not the usual eight
It held my interest from the start and watched Sleeping Dog over two nights. There were times when I questioned certain situations that were lacking in probability as when the daughter of a police officer gets in a stranger's car because he says he knows her father. Some people in authority have shifty eyes and know one helps each other out. There never seems to be much traffic in Berlin and a scene where one party says we have to go to a place more quiet but they are the only ones in a park along a river. Yes, one elderly man is in the distance,so what. A young attractive district attorney is always acting like an undercover investigator running down alleys or entering dark cellars. She claims s she witness a murder and asks Should I got to the police ?
Mr. Malcolm's List (2022)
A sleeper in the true meaning of the word.
It barely held my interest because this woke movement is killing the historic element of the gone bye times. Also to many annoying foolish characters that show little class. Keep making movies like this and producers will see few in theater seats. Sam Heughan was mentioned in a posting that he dropped out of this film due to a scheduling conflict. I think he thought better after giving some thought to this woke story. There comes a point that people who enjoy historical period pieces are turned off. Bridgerton succeeded in many way but the formula can only work for so long. Copy cat after copycat is useless.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
This show is so lame
A real snoozer no matter what time you watch it. Long drawn out stories with well known cast members that slowly move the storyline along at a snail pace.
Dracula (2020)
Long drawn out slog
Why these stretched out stories lasting over four hours that can hardly sustain anyone's interest. Dracula talks and talks to mortals and they try to reason with him. Give us a break.
Marry Me (2022)
Owen Wilson looks like Captain Kangaroo
This film is formulated from beginning to end. Nothing seems real from the leads to the supporting players. With some of these romantic comedies that open and close in a week from movie houses you really don't have to wonder why. They are boring the few people in the audience.
Il tiranno di Siracusa (1962)
A real sleeper
Like watching paint dry on a wall. A lifeless production thay barely holds your interest. I recordered it on TCM late at night hoping for a good unknown film staring Guy Williams would be worth watching. Nice Palace in dirt poor city. So much talk that amounts to nothing.
Joe Pickett (2021)
Never encountered so many nasty people.
Plot has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. A wife who tells her husband she is pregnant and a scene later she looks almost due. Half the male population has beards and cowboy hats and I'd be afraid to even drive through that state. Everyone is packing a gun and suffering from itche fingers. If this is real America then all is lost.
Together (2021)
Water Torture after Root Canal
Imagine if you were a neighbor of these two. You'd be banging on the walls yelling " Shut the hell up ". People in prison are more interesting. The cast can't bring anything interesting in to this covid stay at home story. Sure they are trapped in a relationship but there is light at the end of this tunnel, so race to it.
Bortført (2021)
10 episodes that go on and on...
There is a lot that is wrong with this series. The characters annoyed me. Especially the kidnapped daughter Pia and her pain in the butt mother. Maybe do yourself a favor and watch episodes 1 & 2 then reward time is due, skip to the last one episode 10.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Root Canal
The new series is the pits. It's sad to see these poor actors going through the motions. Who really cares about these old loosers. Dialogue that so woke it makes you gag. I saw the first episode and that all I could stomach.
You (2018)
Season 3 not as good
Open a bakery with expensive 3 year lease but where are the customers and who is making the bake goods. No other employee to manage and do the work, what gives here. The owner/ worker doesn't bother being there herself. Guess munchkins are doing the baking.
Another situation is this silly cast from another planet.
Professor T (2021)
The original show was the best.
Why redo a classic with a plastic imitation. This British version is almost impossible to watch. The Belgium series had 39 impressive episodes this Brit version can't deliver on 6 episodes. Just put the original one on and forget about this unbaked cake.
Diana (2021)
The cast adds a lot to make it succeed
I found it interesting and actual very entertaining. A fast moving show that carries the story along. Sorry there are so many negative comments but I doubt the critics could do better.
Guilt (2019)
None of this amounts to much in the long run.
A long drawn out story that could be told in half the time. I felt nothing for any of these characters. It all about money, as usual.
American Rust (2021)
Reminds me of The Deer Hunter (1978)
Powerful story about people in a Rust Belt area and there is little hope for the future. Fine acting that supports the episodes and those that deal with one problem after another. True, it is depressing, but all to real.
Nothing Like a Dame (2018)
If only they were given a stiff drink
It would have been more revealing and much more interesting. They were great to see together and had terrific careers but they needed to let loose and reveal more. They had to many short statements on interesting topics.
I'll Be Gone in the Dark (2020)
Long drawn out documentary
I thought it would never end. Three episodes would have sufficed. I feel for all those that suffered and relieved the rapist was finally caught forty years later.
MAGI Tensho Keno Shonen Shisetsu (2019)
Interesting take on a little known subject
A Japanese program that has a different take on a serious time in history. The subtitles are in English and no audio. A journey from feudal Japan to the Vatican with stop along the three year trip. The acting is fine and exposes their innocents.
Une chance de trop (2015)
Keystone cops and over the top story
Mother searching for her daughter is stupid superwoman.
The White Lotus (2021)
The series has very little to offer
The first episode barely held my I interest. Introducing characters, that you want to avoid whenever your on holiday, appear in this six part series. White Lotus comes across like a mediocre broadcast tv show that's needed for cancellation. Will see if I can sit through another episode.

Northmen: A Viking Saga (2014)
The plot is to unbelievable
Decent cast but storyline is way out of line with reality. A pure fantasy tale from beginning to end. There are no heroes in this Northmen tale by far. The first scene after a shipwreck and the last scene with a small boat out of nowhere makes no sense what so ever. The actors at least got pay checks for this.
Halston (2021)
His name was everywhere for years
I had his cologne and a few of his ties. Living in New York City my entire life how could you not know of Halston ? I've ways read newspapers and stories and pictures of him were frequent. The cast were a complete package on this one. All these Broadway actors got into their parts and brought it all together. Five episodes flew by. I even remember hearing he spent the last months of his life being driven along the Pacific Coast.
Fatma (2021)
Watch one episode and your hooked on Fatma
This woman is a cleaner in many ways. I am happy to now be aware of interesting story lines coming out of Turkey. The Gift is another series from there that also draws you in from the start. Fatma has some suprising situations that arise out of nowhere. She cleans offices and homes and gets constant phone calls that hang up on her. Where is her just released husband from prison ? He's nowhere to be found and Fatma wants answers.
