"Love at first sight"
24 November 2002
"They both believed that a hidden sentiment has unified them. This certitude is beautiful, but the incertitude is more beautiful. They believed that they had never been met.Nothing has happened between them. But those roads, those stairs, those corridors for all that time they could have been met." Although it did not mean to be,it was a swan song. Two young people, who are neighbors and have never been met,are found in the same places, the same times, doing most of the times the same things. They finally meet in the dramatic and very brilliant end that brings them together.Meanwhile the woman has met an old man.Their relation is brotherhood-like.He told her his life.It was like the young one's but with better prospectives. The young man can do whatever the old man has not lived. He can be happy with the woman. The ending is exceptional. There is a ship wreck. The only survivors are the heros of the "Three colors".The man and the woman finally meet. The scene lasts a few seconds. The woman there looks like the photo she had taken for an ad in the beginning of the film;sad in a red fond."But every start is only the continue. The book of the life is opened in the middle."

Le Mepris
7 November 2002
Jean Luc Godard made "Le Mepris" during the 60's.Now a greek movie of the 21st century. The supporting roles were tolerable but the leading ones were not. They could not act.The script as an adaption of a previous film is nive.A young architect with his ex-model wife are spending their vacation in a villa of a rich old guy.The architect wants to build a very big house for the rich guy. That's why he tolerates his flirt to his wife.Till they have sex.In the meanwhile there is a threat of a war etc, etc.Too many roles can not be directed without a sense of imagination.A too old fashioned script needs something more.

Big,big bubble!

I will not say about the story.I will say about terrorism. When 17 of October made a terrorism everyone panicked. When Osama crashed the towers everyone was panicked too.Was the film prophetic?Perakis can make good films,in his own style, like it or not,but this one is different.Although some of the cast is not uncommon the new ones make sense. The rhythm is lower but somewhere in the end you don't follow it.It began with positive prospects but "it made it a sea" somewhere.

Good morning and adieu.

They sentenced me to 20 years of boredom for trying to change the system from within.I'm coming now,I'm coming to reward them, first we take off the TV set, then we take the anti-depressants.What is this?Who can sit and see that thing? You have to be very desperate.I analyse.First of all it is very slow as all soap-operas.Second the script or even the dialogues are too much.Things many times do not make sense, the characters are always so pathetic, the delemas are so without any reason and the cast is undescribable. Why Mr Foskolos? In the 60's you may made sense, probably in the 70's too,but not in the 21st century. So give us a break, because we can take Manhattan, and Berlin but we can take Athens too.And I am not a terrorist.

Talk to her even if she does not talk at all!
10 August 2002
What was its meaning? To make strong feelings,as in many previous films? No I don't think so.I believe that Almodovar wanted to capture an unusual theme,as he usually does, and make it more reasonable. How many of us have the chance to speak with people in coma?I believed just few but recently I realized that this is not true.I know many people, most of them old, that due to cerebral atrophy or "absence" do not speak and do not understand a thing.Their prognosis is usually poor.Who takes care of them? The people who used to love them.(or ?)Anyway! The position is "hable con ellos".Another point is how many of us fall in love with people in a coma and do never get bored of the situation?I don't think that there are enough. So that theme is rather unreasonable. But for a guy without a life this may be a chance to live again and learn the true love .And he does until he has a reason to live. Then he dies.So that may make sense. Now if someone wants to see the artistic point of the pellicula what can I say?We know Pedro's previous jobs.We know the colors, the setting, the cinematography, the editing and the music. Now they all seem good, although they have change a little bit,but why did I feel sometimes that there are some points that do not fit?Mujeres did not make me that sense. The Tacones either. If I wanted to summarize I could say that in this film there are not many things that are "that's enough" and this is positive. But it need something more to call it a masterpiece.

Talk to her even if she does not talk to you!
20 March 2002
There are many people that don't want to speak although they have to say enough. On the other hand there are many other who speak without having anything to say. Finally there are those who cannot speak at all.If they can hear you can talk to them, even if they donnot understand. Almodovar made a story about men, about the way they love and behave when they are in love. Finally a film about men, with women in second roles. There are many similarities with previous movies such as some old actresses or even co-operators, who are really magnificent. But the ultimate difference that matures the film is that beyond any desire to mimic the known almodovarian style, the director passes through all the easy ways and differentiates. He makes a whole film into the film,he makes a whole new world. It is a surprise just like "tacones lejanos" in style and "Todos sobre mi madre" in feelings. Good job!

An alternative way of reading a book!
18 December 2001
When Milan Kundera wrote the story of a political event in Prague he made a manifesto on the lightness of our existance. That means that we have to decide which way to take without even having the chance to change. How hard this could be?It is,when you have to face a tragic political history and mainly an evil enemy:our deepest desires. The book has a special way of presenting its facts. It is really special and Kundera used to keep this style in his next texts. If you want to film this book you may have many choices;you can find the facts, you can realize the deeper philosophical ideas and you can create a film about the book.Or you can create an atmosphere of the million chances that a doctor in Prague can have in the 60's and how he chooses the less obvious and then you can create a film that can be read. When Sabina smells the shock of Thomas after the quick sex making is one of the moments that made me tear.

An incredible film making
9 December 2001
Who would ever believe that a single film could have the power to say more than what is was meant to say?It is a simple film about a noir story that has not a noir feeling but a blanc document.A very brave decision by some coward fellas. "Bravo pour le clown" as a french chanteuse sung and should keep singing.

A really good surprise from the spanish.
27 July 2001
Although it is a quite old film it contains many interesting points that make the film enjoyable till today.First of all the cinematography seems modern although kitsch.Carmen Maura is a good actress and her breakdown is natural.Jullieta Serano,in her 60's style, seems more modern than ever, especially in the mid 90's and her dellirium is quite believable.Antonio looks like a knerd and Rosy looks nice around her nose. What I liked more and makes me enjoy every time I watch it is that despite the breakdown all mujeres get happy. What I don't like about Pedro is that he uses some tricks from his past movies.Anyway Puro Teatro is a great song.A very good film!
