Halloween Deluxe (2019)
SO AMAZING!!!!
This was really really awesome!! I love how it was done. The editing is remarkable with deleted scenes placed in carefully while still keeping the theatrical versions intact. And even some added effects here and there. The way he does this, the first film perfectly transits inti thevsecobd film, with even a perfectvefitvto the music soundtrack to guide it along. No flaws to be found, in my opinion. I really loved watching this. It was a Halloween treat!! But also something wonderful to enjoy all year round. Any Halloween film enthusiast needs to see this when you get the chance. You definitely will not be disappointed.
Natty Knocks (2023)
Too Confusing and Bad Ending
It's good to see Halloween 4 director Dwight Little and Halloween 4 actress Danielle Harris working together again here, and with a movie taking place during Halloween, but this movie doesn't come close to that classic. Very confusing and I did not like the ending. The whole witch (at least I guess that's what Natty Knocks is because they never fully explain) made no sense to me. How/why did she become one, and the flashback in the beginning makes me question: since when did they burn women/witches in 1976?? Perhaps in 1676, but definitely not 1976! Then we have plot holes and sudden jumps from one thing to another with filler missing. Toeard the end, I'm pretty sure a character from earlier suddenly shows up where he wasn't even there a moment before. Just very confusing and hard to follow. And I did not like the end.
The Wrath of Becky (2023)
Falls Short of the Original
I wrote a review for this a week ago but it seems to have never posted for some reason, so I am trying again. I love Lulu Wilson and she is pretty much the only reason I watched this movie at all. She does an amazing job, but I am not a fan of the subject matter. It got too politically one sided. What I love about the first "Becky" movie is that Becky herself seemed more serious and less comical, and the bad guys in the original had a little more mystery to them. We know least one of them, the leader, in the original was a Nazi fan, and they were deadly and invading Becky's home and family to look for a key they'd left there in the past that held some sort of importance to them. Other than that, their reasons are never forced on us, leaving it up to our imaginations, and they are not presented as goofy or stereotypical. They were much creepier to me. The guys in this sequel are just idiotic and there is too much focus on their beliefs. I think the movie would have been much better without being so politically driven. Fell short of the original in my humble opinion. If they do go forward with the third movie, I hope it is way better.
The Boogeyman (2023)
AN AWESOME CREEPY SHOW!
I am a big fan of ghost stories, scary tales and urban legends. There have been different Boogeyman type movies (not based on Stephen King's tale) in the past that have disappointed me. However, this one finally gave satisfaction to the horror fan in me. It's been at least twenty years since I read Stephen King's "The Boogeyman" short story which I think was in his "Night Shift" collection. When watching the movie, I recognized the nod they gave to the dad being a psychiatrist and a patient showing up claiming stories of attacks by a boogeyman. I believe that's how the King story goes, but this one expands on that story and takes creative license. I think they did a superb job here. Very frightening with a few nice jump scares. The actresses playing the psychiatrists daughters/the young protagonists do an amazing job here and I really felt sympathy for them the entire movie. I really loved it and can't wait to watch again and add it to my digital collection once it's released in that format!
Scream VI (2023)
BEST SEQUEL IN THE SERIES AND AWESOME IN 3D!
As much as I love all of the Scream films (well, Part 4 not as much but still like it), I think this one is the best sequel by far. Hard to say that with the absence of Neve Campbell who is definitely missed here, but then again, it was time to get new and fresh cast/characters into the story to have a chance for hopefully more to come in the future. Definitely awesome to watch Ghostface in 3D slashing their way through New York! Made me think of Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan" which, coincidentally, you see playing on a television early on in this movie providing an awesome nod. Speaking of nods, there's one for every single prior Scream film in the series showcased in this movie and I loved that. Just a really awesome movie and definitely worth the advanced screening. The 3D made it that much more awesome too!
Play Dead (2022)
I likes it! Bailee Madison rocks!
I really loved this movie. I think Bailee Madison does an awesome job in these horror movies, turning in an even more kick-ass performance that she did in "Strangers: Prey At Night." She also makes an awesome final girl! Jerry O'Connell makes a great bad guy here. There were a few surprises along the way. Nothing happened though for me to complain about. When I first saw how long the movie would be, I worried that it might drag, but it actually did not. I thought the story played out well and had a great ending. It does definitely keep your attention making you wonder what is going to happen next. Exciting chases! I'd watch it again most definitely!
M3GAN (2022)
As Awesome As I Expected
When I first heard about this movie last year, I just had a strong feeling I'd really enjoy it. I was not even the least bit disappointed upon watching it opening weekend. It was so worth the months waiting for it to come out! I think M3GAN is much better than Chuckyy, and don't get me wrong as I really love the first few Child's Play movies. But M3GAN is an all new and enhanced type if scary killer doll perfect for this generation. Jenna Davis, who is an adorable actress in real life, did an amazing job providing the voice of M3GAN with her sweet-then-menacing voice. The doll even looks a lot like Jenna, so I am assuming they modeled it after her as well. Awesome cast all around! Great thrills and chills! Can't wait to see it again!
The Blackwell Ghost 7 (2022)
THIS SERIES KEEPS GOING GREAT!
Well, I absolutely loved it! Bought it on digital today as soon as I heard it was out! Not disappointed at all! Bern buying and watching these movies as they've come out and not disappointed yet. This one goes rightbup there with the first six. I love that he's added a new human enemy element to this one so the stories can continue while yet still giving us that paranormal element we've come to know and love!! Very scary, especially that ending. Almost gave that slasher movie nod while still staying true to it's paranormal roots! I can't wait for the story yet again "to be continued!" I want to see more!
Speak No Evil (2022)
No way! Bad ending! Stupid people! Save your hour and 47 mins
Had I been properly warned, I would never have wasted my time! And no, I am not upset at how "brutal" it was. I've seen more brutality in other movies. No. It was the irritating as hell ending and the protagonists who are stupid and don't even try to fight back and allow themselves to be taken hastage by smug villains who don't even so much as yield a weapon other than a dorky little pair of scissors that did it for me!! I'd have been kicking some ass in that car. Even a finger jammed into a villain's eyeball woulda done wonders here and brought about a better ending! That's how idiotic these people are. Just let it happen with no fight at all! Nope!! I want my hour and 41 minutes back!!
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Great suspenseful and entertaining flick
I loved the performances here! Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy are my top two favorite young actresses, so seeing them in a movie together was so amazing! Beautiful photography and excellent soundtrack including 60's songs that perfectly add to the atmosphere. Really creepy sequences that lead up to a solid twist! A great farewell performance for Diana Rigg (RIP Diana!) as well, and she gives a terrific performance here too as expected. Really recommended for anyone who like a good suspense story and want an original story as well! I hope to see Anya and Thomasin do another movie together as they worked together so beautifully in this one, and each complimented the other's performance perfectly!
The Bad Seed Returns (2022)
Nope nope nope!
Just as I was afraid of. Nothing new. Just like the first one. Emma kills, Emma gets away with it. At least we get to see her get witch-slapped across the face. But my fear was it was going to be another "the loved one(s) die and Emma gets away with it" ending like the first. Even Rhoda in the original Bad Seed didn't get all the way away with it. I just hoped for a different more creative ending here in this sequeal, and was sourly disappointed! The victims seemed smarter but in the end pulled some stupid stunts and got themselves killed. I love Mckenna Grace, but this story ended disappointingly.
Horror in the High Desert (2021)
ACES FOUND FOOTAGE HORROR!
I thoroughly enjoyed this. One of the best found footage that I've seen. The ending made me jump. Not what I expected it to be. Very atmospheric and sends a chill down the spine in the end! I loved it!!
He's Watching (2022)
Started Interestingly But Failed Miserably. Way too confusing!!
The movie had its share of creepiness and started out interestingly enough, but then it strolled out into left field and made no sense. Hard to follow. Random scenes and images, then they attempt to explain in the end but still leave you very confused at the roll of the credits. Seems like it tries to be too artsy-fartsy at times. I just like a good horror story! This one tries to hard to be artistic, definitely like its coffeehouse horror. I want my $7 back!!
Ultrasound (2021)
Talk About Mindbending!
Watching this movie, it's very hard to tell what's real and what' not. Very creepy, disturbing and entertaining! I love how it toys with you. Cast gives fantastic performances! Awesome soundtrack! Awesome cinematography! I just can't say enough about it. Really fantastic movie!
Night Screams (1987)
Not worth the time. Ending sucks.
This was not worth the time I spent watching it. The ending irritated me to the extreme. It just didn't make sense at all. I kind of figured who the killer was, but I hate *SPOILER* when the killer gets away with it and an innocent is blamed. The late 80's were fraught with horror movies like this, including "Cheerleader Camp" and "Edge of the Axe" where the innocent is blamed for the real killer's deeds. I hate these types of endings. Give me real killers like Jason, Freddy and Michael where they take the blame and don't give a damn if you know it's them.
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021)
PA is finally back!!
I've been waiting and hoping for a new one, and it's here. The PA franchise is back!! This one goes a different route with all new characters even though I believe it's in the same universe. The use of an Amish farm as the setting gave this a creepier feel as well as broader setting. I like that this is the first to go outside of a house for the action, and it's done brilliantly. Meanwhile, PA part 8 is filming and I can't wait!
Al morir la matinée (2020)
Awesome modern slasher!
If you are a slasher fan, you will love this! Just the right amount of gore, a scary killer, a body count! It's like Halloween in a theater! Harkens back to 80's slashers. Even the soundtrack sounds like something out of an 80's slasher! Yes there might be an action or two that might make you go "why did they do that?", but it's still terrific! I watched it on Prime. It is spanish with english subtitles but I did not mind. Still a good watch!
Child's Play (2019)
REALLY REALLY AWESOME!
I really enjoyed watching this! After all the crappy sequels they did to the original, it was so refreshing to see this. I loved the modernization of the story. Really brings it into current times. I hope they continue from here. Mark Hamill does an amazing job as the voice of the new Chucky.
The Nun (2018)
BEAUTIFULLY SHOT HORROR!
I though this was a really great film. The locations are beautiful and the amazing photography really does it justice. I like the tie-ins to the Conjuring and Conjuring 2 thrown in there. The jumpscares worked and the nun was extremely scary. All in all, I think it's a worthy entry into the Conjuring Universe.
Dirty Dancing (2017)
awful awful awful
This was an awful remake! AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!! They should never have even tried to remake it. The classic original was enough for us to enjoy for a lifetime. I agree with the prior reviews that the dancing in here was very awkward and no where near as hot and spicy as the dancing in the original. I do like Abigail Breslin, but not as Baby Houseman. She does not have the moves at all and appears very awkward when she dances. I think they are trying to be all politically correct by not casting a skinny girl for the part this time, but the part at least needs someone who it not awkward and can dance with heat and spice. As for the ending in the last few minutes when it suddenly jumps to the future and we see that Johnny and Baby do not get together after all, WHY WHY WHY did they have to do this. It's a major slap in the face to all of us audience members who sat through the whole three hours of their awkward remake just to see that ending! HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING!!!
Oculus (2013)
I wasted my money!!!
In the beginning, I was curious. For the first 45 minutes, I was interested. There were some scares and icy moments. It flashes back and forth between the past and present and that gets really confusing after a while. It got too twisty and confusing! You don't know what's real and what's not. Just when you think it's confusing enough, they start blending the past scenes with the present scenes so that it's all happening at once. See where I'm going with this? It's TOO confusing! Then, the ending was absolutely awful! None of your questions will be answered! Overall, they try to trick you and bend your mind with this movie then not only slap you in the face but literally punch you in the gut with the ending and then run away! Trust me, you will just be irritated and want to pound on the writer/director for yanking you around! Absolutely awful and I warn others, PLEASE don't waste your time!!
Bad Behavior (2013)
slow, irritating and you will hate the ending
So, I am shocked that so far people are giving this good reviews on here. I just sat through this. It was slow and irritating. Very claustrophobic since most of the movie you are locked in a small bathroom with a babysitter and two kids wondering what the crap is going on outside. When you finally get to the end where you expect something explosive, you just want to smack everybody! The whole time I'm wondering... why doesn't she just break through the sky light??? Why didn't she just run out the door when the parents got home???? And there is no way on God's green earth that they could pull this off because how are they going to explain her absence to the babysitter's mom? How about the mother of Grace's friend who could tell something was wrong when she dropped Grace off? Nope, this movie deserved a way better ending than the "shock" the creators were going for. And if you are a Linda Hamilton fan, forget it because you only get like 1 1/2 minutes of her in this whole stinking film. Why did she even do this anyway? LOL! Don't waste your time.
