Sherwood: Episode #2.2 (2024)
Exquisite drama at its best!
One word. SHERWOOD!
Season one blew me away and I gave a 10 out of 10 rating on IMDB.
Season two episodes 2 has just made me want to give it an 11.
It gives me the feeling of watching something like Line of Duty or Happy Valley or the Missing for the first time.
Exceptional drama, exquisitely crafted.
The casting is perfect and characters completely believable. The tension is solid and all consuming. Reminds me of watching the artistry of directors like David Lynch or Quentin Tarrantino for the first time.
I have to give a nod to the art direction and music in particular. Soaring, yet subtle and haunting. Making us feel we are really there.
Other channels have raised their game, but nobody can top the BBC at it's best.
Better (2023)
Refreshingly original
Liked this police drama alot. Interesting complexed characters. No stereo typical goodies and baddies. Some great unexpected twists and turns. Great casting of some fresh charismatic actors who were very convincing and believable. There are certain actors that are brilliant, but it's unfair they seem to get all the jobs so great to see some new ones. I recommend this if you like gritty crime detective drama. I watch alot of this sort of thing and this really pleasantly surprised me and stood out. Nice use of music in a few places. Really liked the way it finished and the closing The The track.
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Avoid this god awful film like the plague
Avoid, especially if you are an animal lover. I was looking forward to this as I love the two main actors and the charm of Irish culture. Little did I know that by the end of the film I would fall out of love with both actors and feel dirty and tarnished by the whole exoerience. I urge you to avoid the hype and the film. It is so nasty. I wish I could unsee it' I am a Liberal minded avid film fan and it ajes alot for me to be so dalning of a film, but I feel so strongly about it I want to warn as many people as possible. I usually only write a review if I love a movie. It's not as if the analogy and metaphor of Ireland and its fractured bickering history being played out in the so called breakdown of a friendship was lost on me. I just thought this was such distasteful unpleasant way of going about it.
White Noise (2022)
Don't waste your time
This is one of those movies you resent that you spent two hours of your life watching. I usually only write reviews when I 'o e something. But the best part was the end credits dance sequence. Part of that enjoyment was relief it was all over. I love Adam Driver as an actor and I appreciated him in marriage story and girls. But this really is just pretentious nonsence. The story is annoying and not really one thing or another. The characters talk o er each other in an attempt to capture a naturalistic family vibe, but all it does is put your back up. It does not make sense and is such a waste of talent. Don't waste your time. I hope Adam chooses his projects more wisely in future.
The Offer (2022)
Perfect insight for film lovers
I adored this series on Paramount and didn't want it to end. If you are a fan of the film The Godfather, this is the 'even stranger than fiction' true story of the blood sweat and tears that went in to making it. Miles Teller has gone up even more in my estimations. A true star. Plus he had a lot to do with producing and bring the series to life. So life imitating art, imitating life . Mathew Goode, Giivanni Ribissi and Juno temple are also fantastic. You really get to know these people and truly care about what happens to them. For a movie fan like me, it made me appreciate even more what a collaborative difficult process making a movie is. Enjoy. 🎥💯😎
Red Rose (2022)
Genuinely likable young people in this clever dark thriller
What sets this thriller apart is its genuinely likable and believable group of young freinds. It takes its time to really build up their relationships and I loved its use of trademark northern big hearted insulting banter. When the story starts taking dark twists you really care about what happens to them and the bonds and rifts feel real. Red Rose is a sophisticated cyber thriller, but also a wonderfully portrayed warm hearted, realistic drama. Make sure you give it the time it deserves as it is more considered and less showy than a lot of dramas we are used to today,
but the pay off is worth it and it stays with you. There are some really powerful uses of music for key moments. I'm sure we will be seeing more of its talented young cast and I look forward to more from the writers too with their totally believable gritty writing.
The Sandman (2022)
Superb
I recommend The Sandman on Netflix. This really has the courage of its convictions immediately. You are sucked into it's beautifully shot gothic world. The set designs and creativity that's gone into this are a sight to behold. The multilayered story delves deep into the human psychie with a fantasty edge. The soundtrack effectively transports you and the acting is excellent from a a stellar cast. Tom Surridge in particular is otherworldly and etherial. His posture, body language and charismatic voice really bring the character to life. The cinematography seems to capture the various stills from the graphic novel. I think everyone who has contributed to this should be proud. On top of a lot of it is shot around our local area of Richmond. It's highly bingable and extremely creative and entertaining.
Sherwood (2022)
Powerful drama full of surprises
I cannot sing the praises of this devastatingly good drama enough. OMG and goosebumps moments from start to finish. Love the brooding music, cinematography, story telling and stella cast. When the BBC get it right, nothing can beat them.
The Lazarus Project (2022)
Intelligent, exciting, original time travel drama
The time travel and its dramatic implications are artfully interwoven and this show really packs a punch. Really exciting action sequences too. This series has style and substance. The best current new British Drama by Sky. 😁👌👍
