Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
Cult Classic
This is an absolute work of art... a great "B" movie, very creative and well thought out. If you like this movie, check out Bill Murray's: "The Man who knew to Little"... they have some comical similarities, but Tucker and Dale accomplished the same goal with a $5 million budget vs $20 million... just remember to turn your brain off and enjoy the comic genius of it... i typically recommend this to most people that can handle idiotic comedy... definitely give it a chance, the acting is over the top, but great... the premise is awesome and the execution is flawless... if you don't mind some blood and gore in your comedy, this one's for you...
Elsbeth (2024)
Love It
I am so excited to see a second season of one of my new favorite shows. I loved this show last season. I thought Carrie Preston was excellent, and her character was so likable. I was surprised that my mom didn't like it... she hated her voice so stopped watching. I told her to give it a couple of episodes because it was a lot of fun. There have actually been a couple of decent new shows so it will see how this one holds up... it will also be interesting to see where the story continues from last season. I just hope they don't lose sight of what works for the show, and continue with a winning formula.
High Potential (2024)
The Better Cleaning Lady
Sure they've used this concept multiple times. But when you do it well, it's worth repeating. The lead is fun to watch, some aspects of the show are a little far fetched. And if I really wanted to pick it apart I could: I mean come on, why couldn't she find her husband on her own? If she's so brilliant, then why are they so poor? ... but it's suppose to be entertaining and it was so with all the new and returning shows this is one that I would add to the list to watch. Definitely better than the other brilliant cleaning lady show. I think if the writers thought about it a little more, they could've come up with something a little better, but I'd still recommend it.
Matlock (2024)
Yes!!!
This is how you revamp a classic. When I heard there was another Matlock with a female lead, I was like UGH! Why not just make a different show. I had feared they were going to do the same thing as they did with the Equalizer, keeping the exact same premise with just a female lead and some minor changes (I love queen latifa, but why did it have to be called equalizer)... with Matlock, They did it right! Kathy Bates was excellent. Some of the supporting cast was just ok, but the concept behind this is excellent. I love how they used the Matlock name to rope in the older crowd but yet made something entirely new... I can't wait for more episodes.
Rescue: HI-Surf (2024)
Blahwatch
So to be fair, I have only watched the pilot. That being said, you should start off with a bang - unfortunately this show was firing blanks at all levels. The location is ok, the concept is simple, but it's the characters and acting that kill any desire to want to continue watching the rest of the series. I've seen better acting from middle school drama. I think this show would have been better off starting at the beginning of lifeguard training and maybe even before that, this way they could've explored the motivation of each character and why they wanted to become lifeguards. Set up some more back story, because after all they are just lifeguards - how much variety do they anticipate they'll have (although baywatch seemed to last a while)...
Civil War (2024)
Great Premise Done Horribly Wrong
This was a great idea for a movie. The concept of an American Civil War in today's day and age and what that would be like is a great idea. However, whomever wrote and/or directed this snooze feast had no idea what to do with it. I was not a fan of the whole journalist perspective, but it still could have worked had they made it more believable. The original Red Dawn was cool (although that was foreign forces attacking - which is extremely far fetched), but a civil war could be believable but have a story and they could have used concepts from Red Dawn... my point is: tell the viewer what is going on, make it believable, have an objective, and most importantly a decent resolution... stop wasting my time making these crappy movies.
The Iron Claw (2023)
WHERE'S CHRIS?
How in the world do you make a movie about true events, and of the loss of brothers and then leave out one of the brothers entirely. The movie dragged a little to begin with and there was no reason they couldn't have fit another tragedy into the movie. Not to mention that this could have been a little bit better thought out. I get the whole thing is a little dark, especially with one brother dying after another... but I think you should tell the whole story. Plus they painted the dad out to be a real jerk, and Kevin said he really wasn't like that. True story's should be easy to make as the story is already there you just have to edit it down to a 2 hour film...
Poor Things (2023)
Who thought this was Oscar worthy?
I think 3 stars is being extremely generous.
As far as spoilers I'll say this:... they could have ended this 100 times better transfering the brain of Godwin into the General instead of the goat. That would have made a lot more sense, as if this movie had any to begin with. But I suppose since this movie remained emotion-less throughout, maybe the goat was the best choice. Or maybe they were trying to tie into her knock knock joke...
There was a clear fixation on Sex, and I think they lost, or confused, any message of women's independence with promiscuity. There was a redeeming quality surrounding: one should not be judged on choices they have made in the past, actually I think they were going for - you just shouldn't judge (which I can agree with), so go out and do whatever you want (not so much), and don't give a care about anything or anyone (disagree).
I'm just surprised I made it to the end of this trash.
Rocky Balboa (2006)
My Favorite Rocky Movie
I remember seeing the first Rocky movie in the theater (many years ago), and I thought it was great. Second one was good, third one was fun, and the forth one was a really good and could have made a fitting end. Unfortunately they pushed the envelope and there was the fifth one that was, and I hate to say it, just plain bad. So when they came out with a follow up my expectations were low. But boy did they deliver an amazing ending to the Rocky franchise.
Like Rocky, I too have aged over the years, and I can connect so much in my life with this story: the love for his wife, the connection with his son, the longing of days past - everything about this movie is so meaningful.
Madame Web (2024)
Why the hate? (Except for No post credit scene)
Ok, I guess this movie is more of a 6 to 7, but some of these review ratings are too low so I gave it a one point offset... I love origin stories, this one could have been told a little better, but it was not bad. They really set this one up future sequels, although with all the negative reviews I hope it earned enough money for them to continue on with the story. This movie was way more enjoyable than "The Marvels". It will be interesting to see how the young girls get their powers. There are some great teen movies, like Harry Potter... but most of the time I find the teenagers in movies annoying as they over act, and they try to act like the adults. This kids in this one were not horrible. Again, there is a lot of story here left to tell, so let's hope they continue on.
Dicks: The Musical (2023)
Contender for worst movie ever
There is silly, and then there is just stupid. There's edgy, and there is just stupid. There is stupid, and then there's Dicks the Musical.
If you're trying to make a comedy, you should at least make an effort to be funny. I suppose if I tried to rewatch this trash I might be able to find one or two funny items unfortunately, like the rest of the movie, it's drowning in nonsense.
Nathan Lane why would you want to be part of this mess?
Definitely one of the worst movies I've seen in while. Maybe that's what they were going after, they wanted to make a top 100 list, and figured it'd be easiest to make the top 100 worst movies of all-time... well congratulations - you made it.
Special Forces: World's Toughest Test (2023)
What a joke
It's a shame that they apply the term "Special Forces" Training to this, because not one of these celebrities could handle Air Force Basic Training let alone special forces. Sure they may be doing some (or modified) special forces tasks, but in no way is it even remotely close to what it's like. Even the "Athletes" on the show would not be able to handle even a taste of what real soldiers had to endure. I feel embarrassed for the training officers as they themselves must think the candidates are just a joke. Next time they want to tackle a show like this, pick some candidates that are in good shape and are not constantly crying.
Smile (2022)
Where's the story
What is wrong with Hollywood. So many movies have been made that by now we should be able to take away what worked well and what didn't work at all and apply it to future films. The people that did this movie, apparently didn't learn anything at all.
Successful movies tell a story. You can't just have jump scares without a story (and even the jump scares are not that great). This movie has no story, no explanation (or very weak one), and worst of all - no resolution (or again, a very weak one).
I am shocked at the overwhelming positive reviews. I feel they are just fake. I criticized "The Invitation" for lack of a good ending, but at least it told a coherent story. I get that sometimes it's creative to make you guess, or have the viewer apply their own interpretation as to what is happening. However, I personally feel that's largely just the directors/writers inability to convey the story to the screen.
I think there were some scenes that should have been saved and included in a better script, but I can not in good conscience recommend this movie to anyone.
The Invitation (2022)
Start with a good ending
Having never been to any kind of "film" school, it makes me wonder why they can't teach one basic fundamental: Start with a good ending. If your movie does not have a good ending, then you don't have a good movie. This ending is mediocre at best, takes too long to get there, but once there - it is over too quickly.
While I'm an advocate of test screening to resolve many film issues. This film needed story revisions, prior to any filming as I doubt that any consumer feedback could have improved the film without drastically changing the direction of the film.
This was not a bad film, but I'm not sure what they were going for: horror, thriller, suspense - there was just not enough of any of those genres to be remotely satisfying.
Bullet Train (2022)
Lots of Fun!
Sometimes you just need a movie where you go to the theater, turn your brain off, and just be entertained... well look no further. This movie was just plain action fun. The flow was awesome. Extremely creative how everything ties in. Absolutely loved the cameos. I walked out of the theater with a big smile on face, turned to my wife and said, "That was a lot of fun!" Will it win Academy awards: No. Will I be recommending this movie for action fans to see: Yes. Especially given that there really is not much else out there. I had been up for over 36 hours and was afraid being tired I'd dose off during the movie. But the connective story, constant action with a comic flare, kept me engaged throughout the entire film.
No Time to Die (2021)
Daniel Craig or Bonds last movie?
There are far too many "10" and "1" star reviews out there. This is in no way a 1 star movie, the production value alone starts this movie off at at least a 4. Daniel Craig is an excellent Bond. Unfortunately, in their attempt to make this movie stand out from the other Bond movies, made some of the worst choices they could have ever made.
Almost everything in this movie, in my opinion fails.
- The opening theme song is horrible
- The action scenes are too few and lack action, making this one of the slower moving bond films
- The villain has little to no backstory and is very weak, and not just in a physical sense
- I felt the story was horrible. Another post picked apart this movie and actually provided some way better choices that could have been made to improve the movie.
To me, this definitely ranks as one of the worst bond movies ever made. Granted I grew up watching Roger Moore, who just seemed to have more fun in the role.
Daniel Craig has openly admitted that this was his last Bond film, but this movie makes me wonder if they were also trying to end the franchise as well. Can they make another Bond movie? Yes... Unfortunately, in order to preserve the essence of Bond/007, they had better come up with some creative writing to derail the incredibly poor choices that were made with the direction this movie took, as it will take a miracle to get this franchise back on track.
I suppose if I were to make another bond movie here's what I'd do: Go back to basics, start an origin story before James even became 007, make sure to include a training sequence (I love those). This is really the only way I could see it working, as they certainly do not want to continue this story, the way it is...
