Dissappointing - do not watch it
29 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Having watched "Borgen" and "The Chestnut Man", I thought this other Danish series must be good as well. I mean, it's another genre but it's from the same country...

I was wrong. The plot has many inconsistencies (such as: how could the humans arrive to the island and then build the fence without being attacked by the elves?), and characters who are just annoying (most of them) or too stupid to be realistic (such as: don't the parents realize Jose is hiding something?)

The good things: Some nice landscapes, Kee-ko is a bit cute and the fact the series is quite short, the total duration is the same as a longish movie.

Not among Ghibli's best
18 June 2020
While this is not a bad movie, it definitely does not rank among the best done by Studio Ghibli. A couple of the characters are not likeable at all, but the movie is not long and has nice drawings. It's based on a book by Mary Norton. The movie reminded me a lot of a Tinker Bell movie released at more or less the same date, so I wonder if Tinker Bell took some ideas of that book too...

Summary: worth a watch, but start with other Ghibli's movies.

Missed chance
30 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
They could have corrected some flaws the original movie has, such as Simba's voice (after growing up) or a couple of annoying songs. But at least it has better visual effects. And a better Zazu.

Good but a bit too long
8 January 2020
We all know how the movie is going to end, whether because we know the true story behind it, or because we have read the title. In my opinion, the time it takes to reach the final scenes before the ending is too long. Some scenes could be shortened or just eliminated.

Pepe chatting with Kusturica...
31 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well, if you want an analysis of what Mujica did while he was president, DO NOT watch this movie. If you want to hear those "crazy" quotes such as "Esta vieja es peor que el tuerto", you'll be disappointed. If, however, you want to listen to him talking about his ideals and his past life, and not care about what he includes and what he does not, take a look. The movie is quite short, so you're not likely to get bored.

Quite good!
31 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Rewatched it yesterday, more than 30 years after watching it for the first time as a kid. It's a nice movie, even if one of the characters (Bob) is quite annoying. Maybe he was annoying in real life too, I don't know. And obviously, the music is great! A must for early rock and roll fans.

Did Cars 2 exist?
23 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't like Cars 1 much, but thought Cars 2 was quite good. This movie ignores completely what happened in Cars 2, and just focuses on the end of McQueen's career. Has some funny moments but others could be eliminated.

Nice!
21 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
An interesting movie about the life of a Czech woman I had never heard about. Apart from the movie itself, with Milada's struggles against power, it's nice to see images of beautiful Prague during the movie. It would have been nice if it had been in Czech instead of English though. I applaud Netflix for including this movie!

It's not bad
2 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A nice movie with good fight scenes, and some funny parts, like for example the interaction between Thor and the "rabbit". One extra point for featuring beautiful Scarlett who sadly does not appear a lot.

Not bad, but I expected more
18 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps because I have read his columns and what she writes in twitter what happened to me is that her jokes were a bit "old" to me. Also some of the humor used is a bit too dirty and full of swear words, which is very popular in Argentina (and Uruguay where I'm from too), but I don't like it. Overall it's not bad, but I expected it to be a bit more funny. Having said that, it has some funny bits, the duration is the adequate one and the introduction with the song is BRILLIANT.

Bugs Bunny saves the movie
30 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
An OK movie where I didn't like the main "human" actors. However, Bugs and to a lesser extent Daffy provide some nice funny moments. I would rate it 5/10 but a reference to the "classic" Robot Monster makes me give it one more star.

A great movie, not a masterpiece
7 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Reading some reviews, apparently some people expected a movie as great as "El secreto de sus ojos", which is one of the best Latin American movies ever, just because they are from the same country and the main actor is also Ricardo Darin. If you expect another masterpiece, this is not where to look. Anyway, Ricardo Darin is a great actor and he shows it again here, playing a retired lawyer who now is a teacher and is convinced one of his students not only murdered a girl, but also wants Darin to discover him I liked the movie very much, but let me warn you: if you think that a movie must, in order to be good, have a happy ending (or a "Hollywood ending" to quote Woody Allen), then don't see it. I'm hoping there are plans for a sequel!

the worst Iranian film I have ever seen
1 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I generally like Iranian movies, and after having seen "10" by Kiarostami the night before, I was expecting a great movie. I was very disappointed. This is by far, the worst Iranian film, and one of the most boring Asian movies I have ever seen. If you have never seen a Kiarostami movie before, watch "Ten" instead. If you want some good Iranian movies, you may also try "Sib", aka "The Apple". This movie is divided in 5 parts, and only the fourth, featuring some funny ducks, is worth watching. If this is the first Iranian movie you see, you probably won't want to see any more. I don't blame you, but you will miss some great movies.

It should have been older and cheaper
16 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Watching this movie, I thought that it was made in the wrong moment. Evil scientists in the 40s trying to conquer the world, and all that... If this movie had been made in 1930, with a low budget, and with the same plot mistakes and errors that this movie has, it would have been a classic! The good thing as it was made was having Gwyneth Paltrow as the main actress, however. Robot Monster, Plan 9 from Outer Space, etc. do not have actresses as beautiful as GP. Overall, then, a missed chance to make a cult film. It should have been made 50-70 years earlier, with a small budget...

great music!
21 September 2004
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS AHEAD A very poor story, typical Hollywood film which is clearly inconsistent. For example, in that famous school, they do not check the identity of the people who try to work there. However, even a bad story can be turned into a good movie with the help of the characters involved, and, most important, the music. Two or three children play their part very well, and so does Black. Finally, a great soundtrack which includes AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and the children learning how to play Deep Purple and The Doors (among others) make you want to jump into the movie and be part of the band. Great if you like rock'n'roll, complete waste of time if you do not.

missed chance
21 September 2004
A great catastrophe is changing the world, apparently forever. Three British scientists realize their life is ending and reflect on what they would have liked to see. They make a toast and one of them says "to Manchester United!". It could have been a nice 5 minute film. However, they decided to do a 2 hour film adding characters who are inconsistent, and a very weak plot. For example, in spite of a storm which has turned the north hemisphere into ice, the world looks just the same from outer space (only white instead of green). Or, buildings freeze but a tent does not, and all windows break, but not the lights... i could go on and on... but remember... "Gentlemen, to England." "To Mankind" "To Manchester United!"

brilliant!
3 March 2004
Warning: Spoilers
After two years of waiting, I finally could see "Hollywood Ending". And it didn't disappoint me. When I saw Sweet and Lowdown, I thought Woody's imagination had finished, or at least, been reduced. The Curse of the Jade Scorpion showed me wrong and this movie is even better. The Chinese made me laugh all the time, Woody's acting AS GOOD AS EVER, the main actress is good also, the plot is great... this movie is brilliant! Spoiler: I agree with the message of the film, also. The references to the Oscars are good, the ending is what I always called a "Made in Hollywood" ending, precisely what he is making fun out... 9/10, thank God that Woody exists

We want the sequel!
22 January 2004
Kill Bill is a great movie, without doubt, one of the movies with best fighting scenes ever. I think it was a bit too violent, however, a little less of blood would have been better, imho. Now, the only think we can do is wait anxiously for the sequel (or sequels?) 8/10.

superb
11 December 2003
With the exception of Woodstock, this is the best documentary film ever made. Superb from beginning to the credits (with Joey Ramone singing) with no weak parts. Even Woodstock has weak parts. Watch it. However, I imagine many people saying Moore is anti-American.

Excellent idea, nice film
1 December 2003
A great idea: 11 stories about 11 September. 11 directors from different countries with different results. Ken Loach talking about an immigrant (as usual) is just brilliant (as usual). The Frenchman does a very good job also, while the Burkina Faso film was a nice surprise. However, the Israel film was a bit boring, and the Mexican guy, well, he should quit directing and work in a Mexican restaurant. 8/10

watch it and your IQ will fall
10 January 2003
stupid movie, it shows you to never watch a Tom Green movie. My IQ dropped a couple of points because of this. A Ramones song and one or two scenes prevent this movie from being the first "1" in my 100+ votes. don't watch it: 2/10

could have been better
9 January 2003
With such great music, if the director is not stupid, the film becomes a masterpiece, such as Pink Floyd: The Wall, directed by Alan Parker. However, the acting is bad, many minutes to make the movie longer. Roger Daltrey rocks, Ann Margret and Oliver Reed suck. It should have been 10.5/10, it is only 6.5/10.

even better than the first one
27 December 2002
Wow! This movie is superb, one of the best I have ever seen. I also dislike many of the changes, like Gimli and Faramir, but, this is a movie. I am rating a movie, seeing if it is bad, good or excellent. Some characters are different, but well made, and this is what is important. The movie is breathtaking, and Gollum is excellent. Bilbo, Sam and Legolas are well portrayed also. Movie of the year, probably, movie of the decade... Watch it... or miss it.

good
27 August 2002
Interesting Uruguayan movie, with a Hollywoodesque plot: a journalist investigating a crime. Watch it if you like that kind of movies. The music is horrible, and it is based on a real story from the late nineties.

An OK movie, with an ok plot, good acting, great music, but also some incoherent characters. Not really good, but better than the average US movie: 6/10.
