Bakugan Battle Brawlers (2007)
Decent anime. The Japanese dubbed version is the best one.
I recently rewatched this series, which I used to enjoy a while back. Overall, it was decent. The animation quality was mediocre, and the storyline centered around the typical theme of saving the world, which is common in most shounen anime.
I had a hard time finding the original Japanese dubbed version, but eventually, I found it, and it was definitely better than the English dub. The performances by the Japanese voice actors were compelling.
The opening and ending songs were okay, but not particularly memorable. The action scenes were basic, and while there wasn't much in terms of adventure, the world-building aspect of Vestroia was well done, even though it was only showcased for a short period.
Overall, I would recommend it.
Buru doragon (2007)
Fast-paced, features characters reminiscent of Dragon Ballz, and has great songs.
It was entertaining, and the characters closely resemble those from the Dragon Ball franchise. To be fair, I remember watching this on TV a few years back, so there's a nostalgic factor contributing to my higher score.
The opening and ending songs were very memorable, and the voice performances were great. However, it lacked action for an action-adventure animation. Unfortunately, the pacing was fast towards the end, making it feel rushed.
There wasn't much in terms of world-building, but I loved the adventure parts. There were a few character developments and power-ups, though some characters were quite annoying, leading to a love-hate relationship with a few of them.
Overall, I would recommend it.
Bakuten shoot beyblade (2001)
Great scores and high replay value. Nothing can top this OG beyblade series.
I'm rewatching the entire series and it definitely has high replay value. The scores are amazing and the opening and ending songs are very memorable.
Still on my first season of 51 episodes. The first season of the series had 4 parts. My favorite part was the third one, where the BBA team competed against the Euro team. My least favorite is part 1 and part 2 - it was quite unnecessarily long and boring.
This series can be categorized as drama, action-adventure, sport, and fantasy. The character designs are cool and the voice casting is amazing. I really love the compelling performances by all the cast members.
It's very family-friendly and highly recommended.
Bakegyamon (2006)
Quite okay, same author as in Ushio to Tora
Few recurring characters from the Ushio to Tora anime franchise (I just realized that both were written by the same author/mangaka). The hand-drawn anime's storyline revolves around yokai/Japanese folklore monsters in a competition and 1-on-1 battle tournament. The winner of the tournament will be granted one wish of their own.
The animation quality was decent, but it became a bit messy towards the end. Some subplots that were established at the beginning were disregarded. All the opening and ending songs were amazing, very reminiscent of early 2000s anime. The scores remind me of the Inuyasha series.
The character designs were very similar to other animes that I know, such as Ushio to Tora (especially the yokai) and Shaman King for the human characters. Sanshiro resembles Satoshi (Ash Ketchum from Pokemon) in many ways. Neido is decent for a mascot, quite memorable.
The concept itself was similar to other monster-catching/tournament animes (which was a hype thing back in the 90s and early 2000s), namely Monster Rancher, Pokemon, Digimon, etc. If you love Yokai Watch anime, you will probably enjoy this. The ending was not my favorite, definitely not as dark and scary as Ushio to Tora, probably intended for younger children. I recommend it.
Dejimon Teimâzu (2001)
The new concept was great but ultimately ignored
The intro song is so catchy and sets the perfect tone for the series. The voice cast is great, even though their performances could have been better. The concept is really cool, and the new Digimons bring a lot of excitement, but the pacing is a bit off.
The storyline feels a bit basic and familiar, but it's interesting to see the new characters and Digimons, especially Renamon's evolution line.
The animation quality is good, but not quite as impressive as Digimon 02. Some of the new Digimon skills are not that great, except for Renamon.
The pacing of the season is a bit all over the place, with a slow first half and a rushed ending. The sound quality is okay, and both the opening and ending themes are super catchy.
There are some good character developments, but some parts of the plot feel like they're overlooked as the series ends. The ending isn't as strong as in the previous seasons, probably because of the weak portrayal of the villains.
For someone new to the series, I might suggest starting elsewhere.
The Dragon Prince (2018)
Captivating story, amazing character development, and an incredible world to get lost in
Guess what? I just stumbled upon one of the most amazing western animations I've ever seen! While the animation style was pretty good, the music, especially in the intro scene, totally blew me away.
I'm totally obsessed with the world-building in this animation. The pacing was just perfect, keeping me hooked all the way through to season 5, and now I'm counting down the days until season 6. Season 3 was just fantastic.
I absolutely loved how the main characters developed throughout the series. The villains were so well done, and it was cool to see the balance between good and evil. Great line of compelling voice casts and im absolutely adore the mascots of this series. Great representation of POC as well as the LGBT communities.
The way the story unfolded was mostly fantastic, although there were a few changes in the plot that didn't quite grab me. And sometimes this reminded me of the Avatar (Aang & Katara) franchise - due to how they execute this series.
I would totally recommend this animation to anyone looking for a captivating story, amazing character development, and an incredible world to get lost in.
Natsume yûjinchô (2008)
Not bad, just not my cup of tea. Slow pacing and lacks action or comedy
I found the show to be just okay. I stopped watching halfway through season 2 because the storyline didn't stand out, and the pacing was extremely slow. It lacked action, which may have contributed to the slow pacing.
To be honest, this anime doesn't rely heavily on action or comedy. Instead, it takes a more mellow approach to the storyline, which may not appeal to everyone. I found it boring at times, and I would often watch it before bed as it helped me fall asleep.
I thought the world-building aspect was weak. I am familiar with Japanese folklore and yokai, and I felt that this anime, like many others, took a friendlier approach instead of making them scary.
However, I thought the scores and audio quality were amazing. The intro and outro songs were forgettable, and I didn't feel the mascot was strong, but the main character, Natsume, was fine. The animation style was okay.
Overall, I think it's an okay show, but it may not be for everyone.
Good Times (2024)
Great comedy. You should watch it.
I must admit, I greatly enjoyed watching this. While it took some time to acclimate to the dark humor and unique comic book animation style, the voice cast's stellar performances made it all worthwhile.
The characters were okay, and I really loved that catchy intro song. However, I was disappointed by the abrupt ending of the first season's final episode. Additionally, the character development of Jr, my favorite, did not meet my expectations.
Despite these shortcomings, the show provides relatable, humorous moments rather than offensive ones, which I found quite entertaining.
I encourage you to give it a chance. It's definitely worth your time.
The Book of Life (2014)
This movie was ahead of its time
The animation style in this movie is truly unique-it's like a blend of Lego and classic wooden puppets. The tone is dark, mysterious, and cool, which is characteristic of Guillermo del Toro's signature style of production.
The voice performances are compelling, drawing you into the story, and the original storyline delves into Mexican culture and beliefs.
The pacing of the movie is excellent, and the animation is beautifully crafted, with vibrant explosions of color that really bring the visuals to life.
The choice of songs and covers is fantastic, and the movie's scores and sound quality contribute to the overall immersive experience.
What's more, the movie has significant rewatch value-I've personally watched it three times! It's a film that really resonates with today's audiences, making it even more captivating and relevant.
The Witches (1990)
I didn't connect with this. Overall, it was just bad for me.
After reading all the reviews, I had high expectations for this movie. However, on my first watch, I found it to be overall bad.
The cast, with the exception of the grand witch (Anjelica), was bad, and the storyline was basic. None of it made sense from start to finish. Having seen many classic movies, I consider this one of the worst.
The pacing was very odd, and the production was obviously cheap.
I appreciated the movie's makeup and horror aspects, but the execution was poor. This movie is not suitable for today's audiences or children due to extremely horrific scenes.
The writing was bad, and the scores were not memorable. I did not connect with this movie and see no revisit value. I do not recommend it.
Dragon Rider (2020)
Cheap productions, same storyline. Sometimes, too silly & too dark. Overall, it was okay.
I watched this movie recently and I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, the storyline felt solid, but at the same time, it seemed like something I've seen before, especially in the "How to Train Your Dragon" movies. It also included references to "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Ice Age," which was interesting.
However, the movie felt like it was trying to cater to both children and adults, and I couldn't quite figure out who the target audience was. The voice casting choices, especially for the character Ben, were disappointing, and the character designs, particularly for Sorrel and some of the dragons like Firedrake, weren't well done in my opinion. The villain Nettlebrand was okay, but on the weaker side, and it was hard to take him seriously.
Both the animation and sound quality didn't meet my expectations. I really disliked the dull, grayish tones of the animation - it looked cheap. Despite these downsides, I could appreciate the adventure aspect and the world-building in the movie. However, the original song was awful, and it seemed like the movie was cutting corners everywhere.
Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp (2024)
Overall an average movie for children
The movie was quite average overall. The CGI quality was acceptable, but it didn't particularly stand out. However, the voice castings for the characters were impressive and managed to capture the essence of the original Woody the Woodpecker series.
While some of the jokes missed the mark, it's important to note that the film is primarily targeted at children, but adults can still find entertainment value in it. The storyline was fairly basic and lacked depth, following a predictable and straightforward trajectory. The pacing of the movie was notably brisk from the outset, which may have contributed to the feeling of it being a bit rushed.
In terms of the performances, the actors did reasonably well, although, at times, the acting came across as somewhat overexaggerated. The musical scores were nothing out of the ordinary and did little to elevate the overall viewing experience.
In summary, the movie had a low-budget feel to it, but despite its shortcomings, it still manages to warrant a modest recommendation.
Ultraman: Rising (2024)
The animation is remarkable, with great action scenes, and it stays faithful to the original lore
This movie was awesome! The animation quality was top-notch, and the scores and audio were amazing. The voice cast did a great job, and the characters were really compelling. The storyline was kind of predictable, but the execution was impressive. The mood and character designs reminded me a lot of Disney's Big Hero 6, which was cool.
I grew up watching Ultraman, so I'm pretty familiar with it. I loved everything about this movie, except for the villain. Professor Sato just didn't cut it as a villain.
But overall, this movie has something for everyone - action, drama, and sci-fi. The ending and end credit scene got me excited for a sequel. I'd definitely recommend it!
The Magician's Elephant (2023)
Great Storyline - Very magical and family friendly. Animation style was bit off
Upon reflection, it seems that numerous individuals share my sentiment that while the animation style was slightly off, the storyline was exceptional, and the scores were remarkably good. The characters, brought to life by compelling voice actors, were truly delightful, and each one of them deserves commendation.
The storyline was completely original, unlike anything I had seen before. I particularly enjoyed the magical elements of this animation; it evoked the nostalgic feel of classic Disney animated movies. I believe it is a film that appeals to all age groups, and I highly recommend it. Check it out!.
Entergalactic (2022)
Beautiful but not the one that i was looking for. Not for kids.
I didn't expect the movie to be a romance; I was hoping for a sci-fi film. However, I loved the art style, which reminded me of Spiderman Into the Spider-Verse. The song choices and voice cast were great. The pacing was a bit slow and boring, but the music kept me engaged.
I'm not a fan of the heavy focus on being high and smoking weed in the movie. It's mostly about being high and falling in love while dealing with exes. I'm not really into romance, so this aspect didn't appeal to me.
This movie is not suitable for kids or young children due to some age-inappropriate scenes. It's not for everyone, but I still recommend it.
DC League of Super-Pets (2022)
Full with great action scenes and funny moments
First of all, this was a great movie though some of the character designs were questionably bad, especially the Justice League members (except Superman).
The animation style was great, hence both the animation and audio quality were outstanding. Great song choices and the scores were not bad either.
The storyline was straightforward and was executed perfectly. Great pacing. The targetted audience was young children, hence was no need to take it too seriously.
I found the voice castings weird at the beginning, but they grew on me. I didn't expect both the mid-credit scene and the end-credit scene. Both were cute and set up for a possible sequel.
Highly recommended.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022)
Great Movie. Very Dark, not advisable for younger kids.
This was probably the best Pinocchio movie that I ever watched, to be honest. It was nothing like the one I grew up watching but had a few dark moments (so stay alert when watching with younger children).
One of the best stop-motion animations, with outstanding pacing and scores. Amazing line of voice casts and kudos for giving very compelling performances throughout the movies. The MVP were Geppetto and Pinocchio.
It was full of Drama, Mystery and Actions. A little bit of Adventure but a movie for the older audiences. Not advisable for children.
Lovely original songs and musical numbers. Amazing storyline, nothing like the original but the ending was really sad and dark. Highly recommended.
Leo (2023)
Didn't expect to be a musical. It was OKAY
This movie is not for everyone, slowly paced with a few annoying moments. I didn't expect it to be a musical. The songs mostly were just bad and annoying.
The animation was totally fine for me but the character design especially those kindergarteners looked very awful. Love some of the jokes (some were very dark), the mood setup was underwhelming though.
The storyline was neat and generic. Nothing special. All the characters had big part of this movie. Leo can be a relatable character for some, but the voice casting could've been better for him. Squirtle was fine, just disgusting moments of him peeing. Recommended.
The Casagrandes Movie (2024)
Nothing like the Loud House, bit boring
It's an okay-ish movie. It reminded me of The Loud House in terms of the animation style. Both the animation and audio quality were fine. There is not much that I can say about the original song as it was not played for long.
The storyline was okay, though it was boring for me. It was just like every other kids' movie out there about a father/mother-son/daughter relationship, just with a slight twist. The tone setup was a bit gloomy and dark, and I'm unsure if it was intentional. The voice casts were okay except for the main character Ronnie, her voice reminded me of Tommy from the Rugrats. It was weird. Overall, an average movie.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (2023)
The returning characters are great, but the movie felt repetitive of the first one.
This movie was cute and decent. I appreciated that they kept the same animation style and all the returning voice cast from the first movie.
However, the storyline felt a bit repetitive, focusing on a different way of processing chicken meat and the introduction of new technologies. This made the second act feel boring to me.
I didn't connect with the new characters, Molly and Frizzle, as much as I did with Ginger and Rocky from the first movie. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the return of Mrs. Tweedle for revenge.
The scores and songs were amazing, making it great for young kids to watch. I recommend it.
The Sea Beast (2022)
How to Train Your Dragons X One Piece X Monster Hunter X Pirates of the Caribbean
Both the animation quality and the scores were top-notch. The storyline and writing were perfect, and the world-building aspect of this movie was outstanding.
It was very reminiscent of One Piece, Monster Hunters, and How to Train Your Dragon - all mixed up together. Certain parts of this movie also reminded me of the Pirates of the Caribbean.
The character design, especially the monsters, was great. The voice castings were excellent and gave compelling performances throughout the movie. The action scenes were outstanding, and I loved the thrilling adventure aspect of this movie.
The original song was great, although not very catchy or memorable. It's something every child would get excited about. Highly recommended.
Chicken Run (2000)
This movie has something for everyone and is definitely a top-tier stop-motion animated film
This is probably the first stop-motion (claymation) animated movie that I watched, and it has been years since the last time I watched it. I never realized how dark the movie was, especially in the first act. Now, I'm rewatching it for the sequel. It's still one of the best things I've ever watched and is still relevant for today's audiences.
Both the audio and animation quality were outstanding. The voice cast was amazing, kudos to each and every one of them. The original song is good. The characters, especially Ginger and Rocky, are memorable. The pacing and mood setup are perfect.
The storyline was simple but executed perfectly. There's a great amount of thrills and comedy. It's totally not boring and something that audiences of all ages would enjoy. Highly recommended.
Orion and the Dark (2024)
I've never met a kid who has as many worries as Orion
The animation style and quality were great. This movie is very reminiscent of "Inside Out" and "Rise of the Guardians." The scores were great, but the pacing of this movie was really bad.
The first act was awful. Orion was characterized as being a bit too much. There was just too much talking, and I understand that he has social anxiety, but some moments were a bit overexaggerated, even for a children's movie.
I loved the second act. It felt like a mix of "Inside Out" and "Rise of the Guardians," although some of the characters were poorly designed. Still, the voice cast gave very compelling performances. Kudos to them.
The final act was just horrible. It felt rushed and out of place. I guess it might be good for children to watch, but I'm not sure. You be the judge.
Duck Duck Goose (2018)
Reminded me of 2000-2010s animated movies
It is a fun movie full of thrilling adventures and comedy. As an adult I do enjoy it a lot, few adult jokes but safe for the kids to watch.
Just knew that it was a co-produced animated movie with China, but the quality of the animation is on par with Western animated movies (especially from Disney/Pixar & DreamWorks. Great line of voice talents. Compelling voice performances done by the voice cast.
Great original songs and scores. Love the animation style and colour choices. Meanwhile, the storyline was not what I expected at first. Something fresh and fun. Kids definitely would love this movie. Highly recommended.
Thelma the Unicorn (2024)
Can be relatable to some. Cute & Fun family movie.
That was cute. Love the animation style and the quality which reminds me of many other Netflix's Animation Original Movies. A great number of characters and I love the world building aspect of this movie.
For me, Otis was the most likeable due to his few beautiful dialogues with Thelma. But Thelma was undeniably the main character of this movie and can relate to many people as she was feeling insecure despite being so talented.
The storyline and progression itself were cute and very family oriented. The mood setup was bright and very welcoming to watch. Few references to the LGBTQ+ community, which were cute and appreciated.
Great original songs and kudos to the voice casts for their compelling performances. Recommended.
