Formula 1: Drive to Survive: End of the Road (2023)
Disappointing
Where was the focus on Vettel? He has single handedly delivered more to F1 than Ricciardo.
And this whole episode missed the most dramatic event to happen ever - aka the final most exciting lap ever that has every F1 fan gripping their seat. This was surely in line with Netflix sensationalism yet they never covered it? I don't get it. Why would they not cover the final lap between Hamilton and Verstappen and look at all the decisions that were made and the resulting fallout?
Why wasn't this I covered ? It's really insane.
It's just disappointing. Feel really let down having watched the whole ten episodes. I have never given a negative review ever.
Star Trek: Picard: Monsters (2022)
An episode of depth
This is an episode that explores further the relationship between Picard and his mother, it's an episode that depicts personal loss and fear and ultimately mental health.
It's important I think to explore the depth of the main character after all. Although it doesn't seem to have gone down well with genuine 'Trekkies'.
So many great themes in this series about loneliness and belonging, purpose and the meaning of existence.
I guess the deep theory is missed on some. Perhaps more suited to Star Wars.
I love how all these characters pull together - it's at the very least very well cast throughout. It's well written and loving seeing inside Picards mind.
It's just great immersing myself in it. It's great familiarity with great characters and I love the back in time story.
The Independent (2022)
Better than the 5.4 IMDB rating by far
I was struck with how well this movie opened with a great writing sequence. I guess I related to a marginalised character both for being a woman and black stood who up for herself very professionally against a clearly biased boss.
I loved how this was written and how Brian Cox came in and added some credibility with his always awesome acting.
The story was current and relevant and not at all predictable which really is quite hard to do these days.
I like these kind of movies though and I think if you like political dramas and thrillers this will just appeal.
So much makes sense here and it's believable that this amount of corruption leads to real presidents being elected.
Great casting all round. The likes the way this movie just grabbed my attention, for every minute. Very engaging.
Goliath: Tongue Tied (2018)
More sophistication less bang n wallop
I am surprised that some of the reviews are so bad for this last episode. It's certainly not worthy of a score as low as a 1. I like the review called 'Real World' I support this review. This ending was very real and felt authentic.
The characters are developed now so nicely. This season has a lot of darkness in it I really enjoyed all the evil characters they were created and performed well.
Not everything works it's way to an unbelievable and transparent crescendo. This last episode was real and relevant. Sometimes the bad guys live at the end.
Sometimes all is not well. Sometimes life isn't how we planned it.
Smashing long lasting season two. Very memorable. Love the characters. Looking forward to season three.
Cinderella (2021)
Critics are cruel
Sometimes a movie is just that 'a movie'. Not all movies 'change the world' they don't all have to 'reinvent the way we think' sometimes they can just be a little sweet escapism.
Cinderella has never been for boys yet there appear to be critics here that simply do not fit into the demographic this movie is shooting for.
I thought the costumes were great! Clearly a lot of work has gone into them.
The cast is well known and surprisingly good seeing them outside normal dramatic roles.
The music is fun and creative, I can imagine so many 7-11 year old girls learning all the words and routines throughout this movie to songs simply around decades before their time.
Sometimes something is just blissfully and unashamedly bright, sweet and colourful... the way a take on a modern classic should be.
Flack (2019)
Can't understand why this was discontinued!
This is so well cast. Lydia is awesome. 12 episodes isn't enough. It's so well written I want to follow this writing team to see what they do next. Everything is right about this. Gutted and want more!
The music, PR culture, crisis management! This has got legs and I can imagine many more writing opportunities. Please do more!
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Negative feedback not justified
This had me from the start. I was intrigued by the storyline and the movie direction. Just enough hints to have me guessing. I like the idea of this movie it's just a little bit different from a standard serial killer movie.
It's a great story and I felt compelled to write this based on other quite surprising negative comments about predictive storylines, low budget and bad acting among many of the unjustified comments.
I don't always watch movies for the best action the highest budget etc.
It's a good story, it's great fiction and it's worthy of a higher grade. I would watch again, and I would recommend to friends.
Peter Rabbit (2018)
So much better than its current rating.
At the time of writing this the rating was 6.6 and I can't believe it's so low. I love what the team here have done to animate a much loved set of characters. This movie bridges the gap for me from being a child and imagining the way the rabbits spoke and how they felt on paper. Seeing this on screen is like being present in the way I wanted to as a child. It's funny and heartwarming and this is only my view, wth Black Panther, The Greatest Showman this was the one movie I lost myself in it and never picked up my phone. James Cordon sold it for me in the trailer his voice is well cast for the cheeky Peter Rabbit. He makes it magic, and the comedy and script is timeless and well written. In what is a competitive market for movie making this for me has all the simplicity and escapism that made my weekend. Good well made harmless fun. Great animation, made me laugh out loud and really honoured the characters!
Collateral Beauty (2016)
It's on point in all the right places
We need a movie like this from time to time. It's written so well. I wish I had read the book first. These movies help is to take a step off the fast wheel and just take a moment to think. I think the movie demonstrates a certain feeling that we all become quite numb in our lives. Numb to other people's feelings, numb to our own needs and numb to our pain and to the needs of others. It doesn't surprise me that someone would write a dreadful review about this movie. I ask for what motive? Movies are not for everyone. There are many movies that I don't like but I don't feel compelled to scrutinise what was bad or wrong about it.
I have grown up with Will Smith and I have always loved his movies. I think if you love Will Smith you'll just love this movie anyway.
Love, Tine Death, three key things that connect us all. It's true. And this movie has the ability to relate to anyone who is perceptive of their circumstances, surroundings and open to possibilities and ideas.
This movie is a wonderful journey, I never picked my phone up once, I was intrigued and absorbed with this compelling tale of grief. Yes it deals with grief yet it doesn't bring you down.
A great cast! Simply perfection. The story is more than it seems and if you connect with it you will make some links and realisations and messages will reach out to you, mostly about the importance of trust and human kindness. It's nice to believe in that, after a bad day when you feel invisible to almost everyone.
The composer surprised me, refreshing and really in touch with the emotional narrative of this journey.
Well done all round. Deserved winner of any award.
The Equalizer (2014)
I loved it!
I am disappointed with the negative reviews. It seems some people just want to be critical and it's not sporting. Denzel Washington is great, never does a bad movie to be totally honest always great value for money. I heard he always chooses his movies very carefully, and this fits straight into what he prefers, good v evil where good must prevail. I found myself really drawn in and very engaged when he assesses the threat capacity of his opponents. There is something quite satisfying about the action he takes and I felt that I was on the journey with him. As for previous comments who really cares if the Russians were not authentic Russians??? The casting was really good. I prefer to view movies as pure entertainment and I think trying to critique everything or the authenticity of people places and story lines just takes the fun out of it. It's good fun, enjoyable and DW at his best! One to watch again.
The Good Wife: Undisclosed Recipients (2015)
Brilliant!!!
One of the funniest laugh out loud episodes. I was so shocked how funny this was. And you can't help but wonder how your own personal experiences would reflect if you were exposed to the same threat these characters are. It was so good to laugh. It's been right on quite serious of late and this episode was exceptional. Genius! The pace is great, the writing sharp, and the humour in this literally made me laugh out loud. It was pure Joy. I am amazed at the team of writers how they have managed to evolve this series and the characters into something thaat's unpredictable, fast paced and truly dynamic. Keep it coming! I can't wait for each episode! You can't help but learn a little something about integrity and human kind itself when you see fabulous episodes like this. The best of the best!
Left Behind (2014)
Ignore the negative posts
I am an avid movie fan, and I often read the reviews and I was really shocked at how many negative posts there were. I also found the negative posts prompted me to make this review. I am disappointed that people made this a debate about Christianity and Athieism. This is a film like many others exploring the possibilities of ideas and beliefs. I thought the movie was engaging albeit sometimes a little frustrating but overall I watched it attentively and thought Nicolas Cage was great.
My suggestion is watch IT, and form your own opinion as its your opinion and enjoyment that matter the most. I think some of the negative comments are totally unwarranted and unnecessary. Enjoy!
The Last Ship (2014)
Loved this, can't understand why rating so low
I loved Eric Dane in Greys Anatomy and I have been looking forward to seeing him on the screen again. So when I saw he was appearing in this I sought it out. I love this, but then if you like the global pandemic virus killing off the human race stuff you will like this too. Some negative reviews state this is nothing new, but I like the idea of this one ship out to sea isolated from the rest of the world through months of radio silence quite a refreshing idea. Let's face it, and this goes to the critics slating this movie as having a story line done many times over, this is pretty much how it would go. A virus highly contagious with no cure would literally with the wonders of airline travel pretty much kill us off, there are enough contingencies in place within government organisations that pretty much predict this is the way it would happen and with much accuracy on numbers, and timescales etc.
The hook here is liking the characters, and I think they are really likable, a good strong lead, the hint of some vulnerability masked with an unselfish loyalty to their personal causes, whether it be looking after the crew of a ship, backing up your team or trying to find the cure to prevent the extinction of the human race. I find the direction and setting of the episodes actually quite fresh and not so predictable.
In summary this is good action packed, fast paced escapism. I enjoy it, hope you do too.
Robin Hood (2010)
A must watch Robin Hood
Initially I thought, "What again" when I hear this movie was coming out. I mean we have all seen Kevin Costners version which was cute, and THAT soundtrack which is still played on radio stations throughout the night. However, driving around London as I was, and taking an opportunity to see the billboard advertisements I became interested in the expression on Russel Crowe's face. So with good mate who is also keen movie buff I went to see it.
I was gripped from the beginning, despite the odd accents here and there, of which my German friend said to me, "Which accent is this?" I had no answer, but hey, it's the only downside in my view. Crowe did sound Irish on a couple of occasions.
Crowe is just good at this, this role was made for him. I have wanted to see him in something like this since Gladiator, and who can match that performance? Cate Blanchet is just perfect in everything, and their chemistry was awesome to partake in. One scene in particular where we get to see Crowe's upper body naked, drew in many a gasp from the audience, and not just my own! Very refreshing whilst at the same time thinking, he looks good for his age, and all my girlfriends have said he is still on their list. I agree, he is a manly man, and quite uniquely placed in Hollywood right now. The battle scenes were awesome, and it's an allround pleaser hitting both war/fight scenes, good winning over evil, great performances also from the supporting cast so well cast that you find yourself unable to put your finger on where you know them from! Loved Hurt, believable, likable, moral, it had all the kicks if anything it's a tiny bit predictable, but I think if we are honest, we have to have the happy ending, it just completes our night of entertainment! Have fun!
