The Junction Boys (2002)
Luke Ford is the next matt damon...
agents, directors, fellow actors, the performance of Luke ford as perch in this telemovie is incredible. His presence is so profound it turns an above average film into an thoroughly riveting spectacle...he will win an oscar by the age of 27! watch out for him ;)
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
possibly the ultimate film ever
Redemption is a powerful tool and the dynamic tim robbins plays his character to absolute perfection. After being convicted for a crime of passion he did not commit, we follow the eyes of andy dufrane and his sometimes brutal encounters in the shawshank prison. Loss, entrapment and the powerful word 'hope' are some of the initial thoughts i have about the film, but the ending where a lanscape of the perfect shade of blue in the form of the ocean attests the beauty of this film- where there is hope and the psychological will to out- manuver the seemingly futile surrounding walls forms the heart of humanity and its existence
Stand by Me (1986)
A dynamic horizon of friendship, loss and memory!
This really does atone for all the films that attempt to compress ideas of friendship, loss, bitterness and isolation together, because no film does it like Stand By Me. This film, although made in 1986 (i say this because of the amazing enhancements in technology in the past decade)chills me, and i cannot help taking a moment after the film's completion to regain a sense of bliss about the world. Because Stand By Me poses many questions about one's self- Who really are my mates? Are they worth living for? Are they worth dying for? And as River Phoenix portrays (brilliant actor) some things in the world are worth risking for, as his character fades into the winds of memory. I cannot help feel a sense of bereavement for River, seven years after the film, his character really does evaporate and it will be ten years this october (2003) since his death. Facing the dawn of youth, this film about four inquisitive kids grasps the inspiration they find in each other to carry on and live for each other- no matter what their parents think of them, they have three other mates that will make them laugh when things are bad, revamp their spirit when all is lost and make them cry because these times cannot last forever.
