The Good Fight (2017)
Entertaining
Yes the show is political but at least it pulled me away from the news and made me laugh.
Dear Mr. Gacy (2010)
I Remember Why I Quit Being A Therapist
This movie is uncomfortable to watch, but well acted. William Forsythe performs very effectively as creepy pedophile and serial killer Gacy. He portrayed the psychopath very realistically, particularly imposing his will during the conversations he had with Jason.
I did feel that the Jason character would have been more emotionally scarred by talking to this dude-even with experience talking to psychopaths who are NOT serial killers is exhausting.
Overall the movie was very well done, in my opinion. So SO glad I retired!!
Beware the Slenderman (2016)
Blame the Internet, blame the kids....honestly?
I found this to be a well done documentary that effectively portrayed our society the way it is today. The film glossed over the plight of the victim just as these girls did, and we expect them to show empathy? Did the filmmakers?
It's true kids are overexposed to a lot of things on the internet, but when HAVEN'T kids been exposed to awful things? Just look at the history of the world!! It is RIFE with horrific wars, oppression, persecution, poverty, death...children have always been exposed to these things.
The justice system is ridiculous. Trying 6th graders as adults, questioning their beliefs and labeling them mentally ill at age 12 when the brain isn't even developed? There's a reason we don't diagnose psychopathy until age 18.
I'm not excusing what these girls did. Its horrific. But why are we so baffled? Wars have been raging for millennia, and even in the 21st century society ADULTS are killing each other in the name of "beliefs," which are quite honestly no less rational than internet demons.
Seriously.
Melancholia (2011)
Depression Deconstructed
This movie completely freaked me out. It was SO well done, but if you've ever suffered from serious depression it really gets under your skin.
People I know who watched this movie thought it was boring and didn't understand it. I understood it very well. I have never seen a better metaphor for depression, and the seductiveness of "giving in."
If you're very depressed, don't watch this movie alone.
