Samaritan (2022)
Good Action, But Bad Acting from a Bad Samaritan
Quite honestly, watching the eventual chaos of gang warfare on Ameriican streets in this film, the only thing that came to my mind was Trump's Maga Mob runninig riot.
The film has Stallone as an aging superhero who doesn't want to be one, even as actor. Many of his lines are barely audible and he doesn't seem to be into the role..
And he looks like a hobo, seems be endlessly heading for vague some job and his apartment seems to always be unloxked allowing the kid next door entry at will.
The film's plot is straight out of any Batman film, but with no humor. And you wonder who the residents of the city are backing...the good guys or bad guys.
Nope (2022)
BAD, EVEN AS A B FILM
NOPE says it all....lowlighted by a terrible script and bad acting, Nope is a feeble attempt at a low budget sci fi flick...you first get a bad feeling about it from the slow pace of the opening scenes.
We never know how the chimp figures into the script.
But, the real killer is when 45 people are abducted by space aliens,. Somethins we don't see but that's reported on TV. Yet, we never see a single cop or FBI agent at the scene.
In fact we never learn a thing about the aliens or what theii mission is. We do see a flying saucer of sorts...but no aliens or what beciomes of the abducted people.
In short,Nope is a big rip off for those who pay to see it.
Glorious (2022)
A MISLEADING TITLE...THERE NOTHING GLORIOUS ABOIUT THIS TURKEY
How Oscar winnner JK Simmons agreed to offscreen narration for this pointless bloodbath is a mystery.
There 's no real plot and the action that there is about as mysterious as the resason the protagonist is trapped in a restrppm.
This is another example of why Cineworld and other film outlets are having a rough time. Crap films such as thsee are not worth paying to see.
Gone in the Night (2022)
A Shame Ryder has to make such rubbish....bad as even a B movie
It begins with a decent build up, buy slowly decends into absurdity. At the end, there is no end...no real dramatic resolution...it just ends and you wonder why you watched this. Just plain bad.
Crimes of the Future (2022)
Hard to Watch, and You Wonder Why You Did
This flick is off the wall even for Cronenberg. And I'm amazed that such well known actors made this dark and almost plotless film.
It opens withan outrage and ends with a whimper. The dialogue is vague and depressing as is the premise that future art will be of pain and suffering.
Buried in Barstow (2022)
Gritty acting from Angie, but where's part 2?
Angie Harmon does a fine job is this domestic drama set in a rural restaurant. But just whe you are waiting for the big finale the film ends in gunfire and a to be continued notice.
Not nice...more mini series.
Stranger Things: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (2022)
Convoluted Plot, wiith useless Ryder Sub plot for Padding
Series 4 didn't really end in e7...but the entire show was a metaphor for teen agnst...it tended to keep you wondering who was where and doing what in the large cast.
But what killed it for me was wasting Wynona Ryder on a pointless sub plot that added nothing to the story, except some comic relief.
Night Sky (2022)
Captivating, But Slow and Vague Never Ending Amazon Soap
This is another streaming show that leads you froom one series to the next without a conclusion,or in the case of Night Sky,leaving you wondering who or what these people are or what is happening,
On top of this Sissy and JK act more older and geriatric then they are in the show...for most of the 8 episodes you are constantly reminded us how difficult aging is...and I'm one who knows.
Oh, and what happened to Byron? Amazon wants you to watch tthe 2nd season, if there is one, to find out.
The Lost City (2022)
A Mess of a Weak Plot and Little Chemistry
From the early reviews I thought this was the film to see...but seeing it i'm amazed at those reviews.
In short, this was a weak and humorless version of Romancing the Stone. Without any chemistry between the actors...except for the possible chemistry in Sandra Bullocks face.
One minute they're in a city, then in the jungle, they're being shot at,then sleeping, the they're walking miles and miles...you don't know what the hell is going on.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
WOKE TREK WITH A GOOD FORMAT
The latest version of Star Trek goes back to the original 60s series with episodic stories...but you quickly realize, as in the last Discovery, men are in short supply. In fact, Pike and Spock were the only men in the crew of episode 1.
But i do like episodic story format.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
Couldn't stop watching...but last episode Ruined it
This is a fun binge worthy series...the story and acting was super until the rather contrived and downer of the last episode...that ruined it for me.
It seems Martin went overboard for a trick ending that was pointless.
Ambulance (2022)
even suspending disbelief, its hard to believe this absurd plot
Yes, the actors get loads of money for this stuff, but even L. A. has never experienced a robbery so stupid and ovr the top as this.
I gave up halfway into this joke of a film.
The Batman (2022)
The Batman: A Cure for Insomnia
In the darkest Batman film yet, where daylight is seldon seen and Robert Patinson mubles his dialogue endlessly, you can actually fall asleep very easilly.
The Batman follows in the footsteps of the previous two films with its lack of humor and depressing cinematography. Gone is the over the top comic book version in a three hour mess of a plot padded with loads off needless dialogue.
Deep Water (2022)
Amazon is Vying with Netflix for Absurd Films
Take a nympho wife, a psycho husband and one absurd contrivance after another in a slow burning plodding plot and you have Deep Water.
I don't know why with good actors Amazon couldn't develop a believable script. The climax alone is ludicrous.
Sleepwalkers (1992)
was this meant to be a comedy?
This Steve King film is so bad its funny. The cops are useless...can't even get a shot off...an entire police department is killed off by a mother and son monster team...but the action is so badly directed and acted, its a total joke...funnier still stephen king has a small part in this turkey.
The Man from Snowy River (1982)
AN GOOD ACTION WESTERN WITHOUT BLOODSHED
Anyone who says The Man from Snowy River is slow and boring better get the a hospital quickly.
This is a horse lovers film beautifully shot in the Aussie outback wiith some great riding scenes.
Good performances combing rugged action and budding romance.
House of Gucci (2021)
Overly Long Biopic with an Unsatifcatory Rushed Ending
No spoilers innvolved in a film based on historic fact. The House of Gucci is an interesting, yet overly long look at the famous Italian family...it moans on for more than 2.5 hours yet with a climax and ending lasting only a few minutes.
We are never told how the conspirators were found out anf caught. One minute Mrs. Cucci has returned to her home and the next she's on trial for murder....a trial scene only a few seconds long.
There never is an explanation of what happened to the murdeed Cucci's half of the company...did they go to his young daughter.
In end texts we are told that no Cucci's ate involved in the business today.
Not one of Ridley Scott's best films.
Redeeming Love (2022)
Lovely heartfelt romance, but dragged out too long
This is a beautifully produced and shot film. The story is touching and real....the acting is faultless. BUT, at 2 and a quarter hours, its too long and dragged out. This would have been a 9 at 1:45 mins.
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
A slow paced adult version of Twighlight as a soap opera
Aside from the stunning photography, you have to wonder where this show is going...nowhere orat least at a snail's pace.
This is another sort of twighlight saga, but one that never ends...the first series, if you are hooked, is designed to get to you watching the 2nd series just to see if anything happens.
Bewitched (2005)
REMARKABLY UNFUNNY
All they had to was re do the tv show...but no...they had to make a very dull and unfunny show. Major stars still need a good script to read. This was terrible and insulting to the caliber of actors here.
Ray Donovan: The Movie (2022)
Convoluted thin script padded by endless flashbacks
I loved the TV series...should have left it at that. The film is predicated on having seen the series. Yet the plot keeps jumping around between the present and distant past of Ray's youth, you have trouble dealing with a thin plot punctuated by a few absurd violent scenes. In the end you wonder what you just watched.
Red Rocket (2021)
Too Long for Such a Shallow Lead Character
Simon Rex is great as a shallow, narcissist loser. But, he's such a shallow guy, his performance becomes tedious in a 2hour plus film.
Nothing noteworthy happens in this slice of Trump America life to keep me glued to my seat.
The Hating Game (2021)
Well Wriiten, Well Acted Rom Com that's a Joy
In a time of absolute crap being produced and decent rom coms in short supply, this flick was a lovely surprize, as was the plucky and fun performance of Lucy Hale.
Spencer (2021)
STEWART IS GREAT, THE FILM ISN'T
Kristin Stewart's peformance as Diana is super...she has the look and accent down pat and her vision of woman near a nervous breakdown is spot on.
But as a film its slow, turgid and has no ending. In it she didn''t ask for a divorce and it left you hanging after nearly two hours of screen misery.
Foundation (2021)
Forget about Star Wars, This is Real Sci Fi.
Slow, but rivetting...couldn't wait until the next episode of this beautifully produced series. Makes you think and revisit previous episodes to figure out the timeline.
