Albert Brooks: Defending My Life (2023)
great documentary but they
Forgot to mention a great movie where Brooks starred in and that is My First Mister which was also very special. Finally his talent, kind humor and transformative moments he is gifting the audience with are recognized. There is no movie with Albert Brooks that can disappoint and that is so rare yet Brooks seemed to be always in the shadows of the Hollywood few chosen ones. But after watching this documentary, you will at least feel some long-time overdue homage to such a gem of an actor and writer whose movies I can keep on watching and keep having the same reaction as watching them for the first time.
Medici (2016)
Florence, the Beautiful
If the TV show had to have a different name, the second best title would be Florence, the Beautiful. Not sure how much historically accurate the show was, but the story produced was entertaining and kept my attention especially with all its beauties. One must agree, beauty was its main theme and successfully done. The actors, the city, the music, the dialogue. It was a story about what happens when people lie to themselves in order to impose their view on others. Some important moral issues were tackled in this show. Such as is doing bad things for a good cause acceptable? The answer must be always, No. But regardless of the fact that people arrogantly spoke and still dare to speak on God's behalf, Florence still stands today, so far...
Shrinking (2023)
I felt my brain shrinking during this tv show
Seriously? I don't think this show is worth watching as I literally feel my brain is shrinking during watching all the episodes of season 1. It had its moment of community feel and friendship but those moments were shrinking till a complete state of a shock. Now, they just normalized and made fun of murder, profanity and real intimacy. What is next? Transforming little babies into different genders, marriage between a dog and a man?, intimate relations as a therapy for all? While munching on magic candy? This field of psychiatry was always about experimentation and as this show proves again, the doctors are the best patients. The show feels like "Friends" with some psych jargon mixed in. Now I pronounce you husbands, and I pronounce it is time to switch off tv, and especially apple tv with their placed advertisements.
A Good Person (2023)
A cycle of grief, guilt and anger can be broken
Uplifting movie with great acting performances. Well written and realistic. The movie shows how relationships have the power to heal if there's at least some resemblance of selfless love. It proves people are no machines or robots nor can ever be upgraded into a computer. People have a virus because they cannot help but react with anger that is caused by pain. Feeling pain from death is not natural but real. Yet our conscience will not stop haunting us until one accepts the truth and forgives themselves. This proves artificial intelligence is a fraud and fake created by virus-ridden humans. Yet, it also proves people are not hopeless degenerates, they can break the vicious cycle and find a peace and love through healing within healthy relationships (not through isolation and internet but through courage and forgiveness). However the forgiveness has to come first within and through internal reconciliation. The main character was strong enough to overcome the self-destructive path even though the character played by Morgan Freeman (quite beautifully as always) stopped being nice and supportive but instead served her a cold truth on a hot plate. That was a defining moment. Perhaps her fiancee was a motivating factor. Without a truth (even if heart-shattering) there can be no wisdom. That was pretty obvious that after accepting a responsibility and showing gratitude for the given support, she healed. Well done movie, much recommended.
Two Came Back (1997)
well done movie based on true story
Even thought the title tells the ending, it was a very enjoyable watch, a character study as well. I thought the acting was pretty good, I sure would not want to be on their boat with those types of people. The only two that survived were the only ones with determination, common sense and human decency. What a coincidence. Overall bunch of naive kids with issues to prove themselves but unfortunately for them they misplaced their efforts and miscalculated everything about their trip. Lack of strength and morale or motivation contributed to their demise. The couple was lucky to have a guardian angel, the mother of the girl that was relentless in pressuring the authorities that listened to her.
The Jayne Mansfield Story (1980)
Bad Acting Good Movie
The main characters were annoying that is because of their acting not because of who there were as it is based on true story. Arnold was actually the worst part of the movie. The mannerism were a bit contrived but since I never met Jayne in person I cannot say if she was squealing the same way. The movie shows a woman who is determined well-mannered rooted but not ruthless. Very different then Marylin and It was quite tragic loss just like Marylin's. The movie also shows the ruthlessness of the business and the senseless adoration on a level of a worship of the hollywood money-making machines. They all have the perfect relationship, one offers money, one loves the money, and a lots of it.
Crazy in Love (1992)
What a tresure find this movie is
It's a story about families and relationships, sounds cliche yet it delivered a deep and enjoyable entertainment. When a family wound or trauma is overcome there's nothing more that can give happiness in life. Understanding and forgiveness is hard but brings long term rewards. Even if the story could feel sappy at times since there were those reactions that lead to happy ending, it still proves that a harmonic family living is something people desire deep down if we are honest with ourselves. This simple yet deep movie reminded me that a life (or God) gives you set of cards and it is up to you how you play with them. A warning: The right choices may lead to happiness. It is scary but this is exactly what Bible teaches us. How to give love and receive love. A mastery of those, may lead to a meaningful life. The stage can be the world or just your own family over generations.
Only the Brave (2017)
The movie was great but...
The movie was great even if I hesitated watching it since the ending is known, yet i am a sucker for movies based on true story. Well-chosen actors did the real-life heroes proud. Yet I feel a strong bitter taste after watching it because the situation was clearly if the movie depicted the real story, it showed clearly where the mistake was. The equipment malfunctioned, It's like sending soldiers to the war and then when attacked, not protecting them. Oh, wait that did happen Benghazi. I hope the families got some money paid out to them as damages. However, this will not bring such beautiful, strong and honorable men back.
Ticket to Paradise (2022)
waste of time
Even such famous actors can deliver very boring and flat performance as if they are just too old for this job. Overall just very boring movie. Not even beautiful location could save the movie. The comedy part of the movie fell flat just like everything else. Other then the paradise-like scenery there is nothing good to write about. The only reason I can think of the crew wanting to to do this movie, is to have a paid vacation in a beautiful area. The only thing that would make this movie even more silly and wasteful is for all the crew and actors to wear a mask just to be "safe". Safely skip this movie and thank me later.
Father Stu (2022)
A change can lead to a faith and hope
A movie project deserving Oscars not just for acting performance but also for the project itself, seeing it through and finishing. But the truth is that the true story of Father Stu deserved to be watched and heard which has greater value then Oscars. It is an amazing and uplifting story and can be an encouragement for us all, to never give up and have faith in God. There can never be enough of stories such as this to remind us of God's grace. We loose some and win some, depending on what is in our hearts it may be a real win in the end despite us thinking it is a loss at the beginning. Mark W. Was a fantastic in his delivery and I recommend this movie to anyone. Job well done. Stu would be proud of the movie finally getting that Hollywood success.
Gordon, Gino & Fred's Road Trip (2018)
The Real Deal Entertainment
True-life representation of typical French Scottish and Italian culture, funny as it gets. Separately the guys are great but together it is a real bomb. Whoever came up with the idea of doing trips and cooking together is a genius. Gino brings a bit of dictator-like Italian with hedonistic attitude, Fred brings a haughty french art connoisseur and easy-go hipster, and of course the perfectionist Gordon brings order to it all making fun of both with deadpan humor and obsessive compulsive disorder to control every result to be the best. Together they are greater then when separately. Going Greek was a real bonus adding the most beautiful landscapes and culture in the world. I hope to see more travels delicious food and funny bickering in the future.
Selling the OC (2022)
A cockroach drama by nothing but Narcisists
I stumbled upon this vanity by accident, actually it was because of accident I had when I sprained my ankle and needed to watch something light when resting my foot. It made me feel better about my real life. It was fun watching the insecurities and dysfunctions but surprisingly there were some moments when underneath all that makeup, body obsessions, and egos there was a slight peak of humanity. So if you like fake drama, fake talking and screaming lips non-stop with pretty houses and beautiful coastlines then this is the show for you. I honestly cant believe people watch these type of shows but since they financed it. Interesting how fragile and emotional these narcissists can be and still manage to have families. But if I paid attention enough comatose and all, it seems as if the girls were single or divorced but the guys were in relationships and even marriages. Here's your sign.the Bigger the cleavage, the smaller the brain.
Brave New World (2020)
Drugged up new world
I was curious how the new technology got reflected into the adaptation since the novel was written in 1932 "coincidentally" when was Technocracy Inc. Founded in Columbia University and started up a movement where the people wore uniformed clothing just like in the novel and in the series. The Metaverse is pretty obvious they used the idea in the series, the storylines might have been borrowed from Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, but overall I made it half way through the show so I am giving it one star for the effort. The annoying part comes very quickly as it is confirmed that the experiment is very fragile as with Woke inc. The "brave" citizens cannot handle one sentence without being disturbed and in need of a "fix". Even today's generation takes antidepressants which actually do not work. But the newly improved colored fixes are smaller and obviously must not be harmful but last only few seconds:-). With all the technology of spaceships and barriers it is a bit inconsistent. The "fiction" part of Huxley literature is really a scam, it is more of a laying down the plan for humanity, the official version of course, We already see WEF and Yuval Harrari talking about many of the things leading to the brave new world. When do too many coincidences start becoming a pattern? "The Fear became their undoing" as the head of INDRA said in the show, so obvious during the operation of covid. We must remember we are people created in God's image, we desire free will and real happiness that comes from human connection on deeper level not just during disgusting 'orgies'. We must stand up to evil and trust God not gods of science otherwise we will commit a giant suicide.
Bosch: Legacy (2022)
A Delicious dessert
One of Connelly's is a success every time. Bosch is like a chocolate cake with a cherry on top thanks to Titus Welliver. As a private detective the series is a bit different and watching his daughter is a welcomed dynamic to the story.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Michael Connelly + David E. Kelly = Success
I have nothing negative say, so I am not going to make up something just to be "balanced". It was a great show, a total binge. Story, check, production, check, acting check, surprise ending and cliffhanger who dun-nit check. At first maybe I thought the Lead actor was a bit on a dull side but quickly I warmed up to him. Very realistic corruption story. Well done.
George Carlin's American Dream (2022)
A proper tribute, beautifully done.
A documentary worth watching, highlight the best most important parts of George Carlin, I learned something new about him and made me appreciate him more.
It was nice to see him he had worked out his demons and have a great marriage.
George was to comedy that Mozart was to music.
Today, George would be called a conspiracy theorist if he wasn't a comedian. But in reality he was just a man who loved life and Brandy, his daughter his parents, whatever life offered him he reflected back in his comedy, i feel. He was the funniest observer realist and his truth not only it was not far from the truth as it turns out but also it is served to us on a hot platter giving us laughs.
Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey (2018)
Just intense and shocking, well done.
Such a story must be told. And it was indeed. Well executed, played and told story that is absolutely gross horrific and yet true. The girl's life instincts were amazing though together with her appeal on his humanity deep down in the end saved her life. I'm not sure which is worse if her mother and grandmother or the murderer. Her love for her sister also saved her life but in the movie it was not explained in the end. May God bless this girl.
Candy (2022)
Masterfully done, a total binge.
Other then that it was a sheer pleasure watching Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel together, watching them and their talent was a pure joy, but seriously, it was really wonderfully told portrait of two women, bored housewifes from the eighties. Horrific crime . It made me think of OJ Simpson crime case in such way that it seems as if both were psychopaths that got away free to enjoy the rest of life. A lady justice got lost during both occasions. As if the jury system failed being bias since they only knew the good side of hers. The lawyer should have asked for a different venue.
The Thing About Pam (2022)
A Total Binge, Fantastic
Renée's performance and role was professionally done as always this is why I admire this actress versatility. Renee makes acting a real art as it is meant to be.
And even better part of this project was that it was a great adaptation of an event based on true story.
If Looks Could Kill (2016)
This was a very good low budget movie
I enjoyed watching this movie, it was well made including good acting. Overall, good character study and motive of bipolar deeply disturbed but on surface very likeable woman with deep-seated need to be in a spotlight. That well shown towards the end that even if money was the main purpose of deception the underlying narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) was the trigger for her seductive powers that several men fell for. Thanks to the friendship of the female police officer and the last victim, also her persistence and dedication paid off to save her friend and more naive men in the future. Hollywood is probably full of disturbed actors with NPD.
And Just Like That... (2021)
and just like that, i stopped watching TV completely
A show that has nowhere to go. Always ends with emphasis on friendship and being flexible. Now they mixed in the woke agenda, which really was always there but now it is so painfully dominant and obvious that I cringed at every scene. I think they milked it to the end.
Chasing Ghislaine (2021)
Well done, the rich covering for the rich
Great Docuseries. I wish there was more background info on Jeffrey E. As well as there was on Ghislaine. But it was not as much as expected. Father was a bully, poor Ghislaine narrative is not going to cut it during the trial, though, she will get the maximum sentence. Who else will be exposed is more important at this point. I am not too hopeful this case can bring any closure to the victims, nor I believe there will be any justice in the form of recycling of souls. However, it is a very educational to see how the rich entertain themselves and how the business is done. How weakness can be exploited. Hopefully pretty girls parents will be more aware now and protect their kids more.
Epstein's Shadow: Ghislaine Maxwell (2021)
Well Done, Rich covering for the Rich
Great Docuseries. I wish there was more background info on Jeffrey E. As well as there was on Ghislaine. But it was not as much as expected. House of Gucci (2021)
Dreadful, Forgettable and Annoying
A total waste of time and money. Annoying accents and acting. Nothing of value. Just pure garbage. Forgettable movie. Well done Hollywood. The only success was to match the looks of Gaga and the real social climber psycho coward who had to hire a killer to shoot her ex-husband out of greed and jealousy. A type of low life that should have never been released from prison. She will never do any reparations nor anything good for the society ever. Maybe in next life if you believe in that sort of thing.
Spencer (2021)
Camille Cottin looks like Di yet wasnt chosen
Why do you pick an actress that is dreadfully monotone miserable and has a totally different figure? Princess Di had beautiful legs, unlike Stewart, her physique was exquisite. I saw this French actress in House of Guicci - Camille Cottin, she looks just like Princess Di, it is a shame I have better casting skills then then the ones that are actually hired for it.
