Emma. (2020)
fun period film
It's a good movie and well performed, it'll entertain you for a chilly evening, but it's probably not going to become a classic icon
Project Power (2020)
adequately entertaining
It's a movie about a risky "enhancement drug". it's good, but not great
David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet (2020)
A must see
Ignoring this movie should be criminal.
Although visually this certainly lives up to the reputation Attenborough is known for, but unlike his previous works this movie will not leave you elated by the magnificence of Earth.
Objects of Affection: A Woman of No Importance (1982)
An example of good acting
Dame Routledge masterfully brings you the last few months of a seemingly ordinary woman, except she doesn't quite believe she's that unremarkable herself.
Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975)
A look into my grandparents' lifestyle?
This movie is not well known in Belgium, but I finally watched it.
The interior of the apartment reminds me of my grandparents' old home, newspapers seemed to be huge back than and every bit of wood was dark.
The story: a single mom has her daily routine, including some unorthodox necessities, untill small things start to interfere.
It's a very slow and lengthy movie, showing a lifestyle of almost half a century ago, while we're all aware it is still the way of life of many people..
We're not used to these type of movies, but it's quite "zen" to watch a vaguely familiar routine taking place that perhaps would have been practiced by my own (great) grandmothers... minus a few key developments of course.
Artemis Fowl (2020)
Honestly it's like The Last Airbender all over again
The only good thing in this movie are the effects and the stunts.
Somehow it fails to be funny or exciting, even with the fast pace at which the story progresses... not even the selection of a few well established actors manage to save this movie, despite their best efforts.
Victoria & Abdul (2017)
A good period drama about an unlikely friendship
We don't often see the story of the supporting staff of famous people, but the unlikely story of the Indian servant to Queen Victoria, and the reluctant courtiers plotting to get rid of him, is certainly a nice watch.
Dunkirk (2017)
Tense
Saw it in IMAX.
Got a bit uncomfortable.
That's how tense this movie gets.
Venom (2018)
quite enjoyable actually!
Total boys movie!
Ideal for after game night with the mates, salty snacks and 2 or 3 beers!
Hófehér (1984)
A very alternative twist to the tale
In a castle where scheming is required to not get the chop, a royal baby is born in very unusual circumstances... growing up to be a bizarre and overlooked royal maid.
Nothing about the story goes the way you'd expect, and the humor is probably too dark for a young audience to properly digest.
Nevertheless, if you like 80's animation that's decently made and a tad on the gloomy side (the only pink in this movie I believe is from a bare buttox), with a good 90 minutes of proper story development, than this is surely movie not to miss out on!
Knives Out (2019)
Murder? Suicide? Poirot? Clue? Did the butler do it? All (and yet none) of the above!
A who-done-it that serves us 2 hours of delightful suspense as a pampered family are confronted by the apparent suicide of their patriarch... or is not everything as simple as they're all trying to make the hired private detective believe?
Not a single dull moment, a must watch for any fan of this genre!
Mouse Hunt (1997)
Family morals
Clever use of CGI make a pair of brothers wage war on a clever mouse.
Final Destination (2000)
Slowly becoming a classic
It ages adequately well for something in the "survival/horror/adventure" genre.
The Man Without a Face (1993)
An unusual movie
About mentorship, the misperception of truths and the dangers of idolizing people
Modigliani (2004)
A passionate rivalry
The last year of Modigliani adequately portrayed and shown through (a dramatized depiction of) passion, friendship, hardship and rivalry.
A tad lengthy, but still a good movie.
Death Becomes Her (1992)
My favorite "dark comedy"!
I know this movie by heart, it might not have aged as well as we might have liked but the three main characters are excellently portrayed by Streep, Willis and Hawn!
Add to that a great story and an over-the-top theatrical staging and this movie will keep you entertained for over 100 minutes!
The Covenant (2006)
a passing grade for teen warlocks
Mix American history with Twilight and Wizardry and this movie is more or less the fairly decent cocktail you'll be served
UglyDolls (2019)
A "popular" cast and a meager morality story
Not the greatest movie out there, but it tells a nice story about morals, priorities and never giving up on your hopes and dreams.
Rat Race (2001)
quite funny and quite a ride!
A selection of average people are lured into a race, but on the way they'll have to overcome the dangers of tbeir own mischief
Chouchou (2003)
a poorly built guilty pleasure
Language issues, mediocre jokes, honestly just watch it for the campy looks
The Little Vampire 3D (2017)
An unlikely teen bromance
So cute and safe it's missing the horror-vampire theme completely, but then there's the friendship/bromance level that makes it all worth watching :)
The Order (2003)
fringe work in the church
An average thriller movie plot with mild bits of horror and mysterious religious practices tossed into the mix.
Chocolat (2000)
A guilty pleasure that's about life, not sin
Traditions may seem to be important, but if they stifle out living life it's not worth following them.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
it's alright, but doesn't completely make much sense...
Is it epic? quite so.
Is it fun to watch? quite so.
Is it everything you'd expect this type of movie to be? Sorta, I guess?
Will it make you laugh? Meh
Will it make you shed a tear? Potentially.
Clue (1985)
liked Murder by Death? you'll love this!
For the majority of the movie, you might risk a déjà-vu after viewing the similarly "Murder by Death", but the jokes and oneliners tend to be more polished in this movie.
The ending is slightly unconventional, but apparently that was due to a movie theater trick that doesn't quite work as well at home viewings, but still: this movie is a classic 80s comedy that makes a total spoof of the genre.
