Fallout (2024)
Entertaining and want more.
This show is fun and entertaining to watch. The directors know how to shoot a scene and make it impactful. The characters are interesting, the screenplay is good and the world is interesting as well. I would recommend to watch this series. Also as a fan of the games the adaptation is faithful to the source material. It is good to see the creators of the show care about the source material. The show doesn't follow the story of any of the previous games, rather it is a continuation and takes place some time after the events of fallout 4. I am happy with the job they have done and would like to see more seasons in the future.
Halo: Onyx (2024)
Boring with bad writing and characters
The only thing that was decently done in this episode was John throwing around some soldiers. That is it. The rest of it was just very, lacking tension and lacking reasoning. There are just so many plot inconsistencies that you can't help notice, it is like listening to a pathological liar if you have ever had the displeasure to know one. For example, Ackerson tells Kai that it is impossible that master chief escaped reach, while at the same time he recruited Perez, one of the thousands of people that did escape reach. Not only that she went from a comms officer to a Spartan 3's who are meant to be these elite soldiers and she just happens to become one in a matter of a week or two. Not only that, the competence level of these "elite soldiers" is that they are arguing and bickering with each like teenage delinquent rookies who have never been to a military camp before. This show is just unrelatable and not believable with it's characters. And the over all story of the silver time line is not good, it was a bad decision to choose that.
Halo: Aleria (2024)
Inappropriate story for this medium.
The silver time line is a mistake. This episode was not interesting. What drew me to this show was the promise of action, adventure and mystery. Instead I got a human drama about people and their feelings. There is nothing wrong with human drama and exploring feelings however this is the wrong medium to explore this in. The elements that make Halo unique, interesting and compelling are ignored and instead it is focussed on story and drama that is told over and over again that is done better in other shows with a more appropriate medium. Why replace and remove the unique key selling points that made Halo famous in the first place with a focus on something that is common drama. I'm sorry but the silver timeline was just a bad idea and it is really losing a lot of audience because of it. The little I know of the source material it just sounds so much more interesting, which unfortunately was mostly abandoned by this show.
Halo: Reach (2024)
Action looks good but misses in execution.
The action is good and I think people worked really hard to bring this to life so it is a bit sad that I feel like this episode took a turn towards the boring for an episode that is meant to be exciting, and here is where I believe they went wrong. They started to build up the action sequence, only to cut away from it and focus on talking about feelings. Rather than focussing and building the story about the fall of reach, the story steers away from that so people can talk about their personal feelings towards each other. While this episode does have action in it, the focus is clearly not the action but it focuses on personal thoughts and feelings that the characters in this show have. This was rather disappointing.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
Very impressive
I have not seen the cartoon, and from what I hear there are creative differences from the cartoon and the show and that is the main cause of the negative reviews. Which is a shame because I do not believe it deserves it.
From my point of view this show is extremely impressive. It is like watching a AAA film every episode. This is done better than a lot of 200 million dollar Marvel movies, it puts what Disney makes to shame. The production quality of this show is the best I have ever seen in any TV show. The story is good (8/10), the choreography and how they use bending power is fantastic (10/10), world building is fantastic(10/10). They have massive fantasy cities and large scales wars at the fraction of the budget of the rings of power. The battle scenes in this show put the battles in the wheel of time and rings of power to shame, which should ask the question what are the other studios doing with their budget??
Overall, this show is very very good, if you are interested in a fantasy show I would definitely recommend this.
Halo: Visegrad (2024)
Slow episode with some great scenes. Overall good.
My first opinion of this episode was not as good, but the more I thought about it, and re-watched the episode I realised that this episode has some of the best scenes and dialogue halo has to offer. There are 3 brilliant scenes in this show that hit hard with a fantastic episode ending. Definitely an underrated episode with some great writing.
I'm not sure where the pirate/qwan story is going. I am not saying it is bad, it's fairly decent, its just that we don't quite know where it is heading and it doesn't seem relevant to the story. I'm not ready to dismiss it yet because the overall writing has improved significantly so i'm beginning to have faith in the story.
Halo: Sword (2024)
Solid episode.
While this episode is more on the slower part, in no way is it it's downfall. This is because the writers are competent and know how to build intrigue and curiosity into the show while also display a level of understanding humanity, pain and trauma, and not in the "i'm going to cry about everything and be depressed" way but more in the way that "I have this pain, I have this trauma, I need to deal with it like an adult" way. Which makes this show far more mature and interesting to watch rather than the high school drama they did in season 1, changing the writers from season 1 to season 2 was definitely the right call. None the less, I found my self enjoying this episode and enjoying the dialogue and stories that come with it. Good job.
Halo: Sanctuary (2024)
Big improvement from season 1
This is better than season 1 in every way. The filming and directing of this film demonstrates competence. The writing is very good as well. Instead of watching the episode lifting my eyebrow and tilting questioning the show like season 1, I enjoyed the first episode of season 2 and didn't have anything to criticise about it. The story was competent, the decisions of characters is not out of place and feel consistent and coherent, while not entirely blown away by it I could sit through the entire episode and enjoy it, because there was nothing bad about it, plus the action sequences at the beginning was a nice treat and very well done, they know how to build tension and make it entertaining. This feels like a proper grown up shown with great sci fi elements and good character writing including screen play. There are many shows I lose interest in half way through an episode, this is definitely not one of them, it leaves me wanting more.
MF Ghost (2023)
Not a proper season
Season 1 ends on episode 12. It just ends as if it were half way through a movie. There is no arc or complete story to the season, it is just unfinished.
I am so tired of studio's reducing the amount of episodes per season and not telling the whole story thinking it is good enough, it is not. In the 90's and earlier 2000's we received a whole season 22-26 episodes with a complete arc and ending of a story to a season. It looks like this is a thing of the past. Production quality is not an excuse, because the original has 26 episodes, and the first 12 episodes were more entertaining and exciting to watch compared to this, the racing there was simply done better. Not only that the remaining 14 episodes were also brilliant. So they can't blame production costs, it is just their complete misuse of funding.
This is just poor quality in comparison, another example of a company cutting content to maximise profit.
One Piece (2023)
Heartfelt adventure
Great story, great characters, grand adventure and heartfelt. This was very entertaining and you just want to spend time with the crew on their adventure. This show is a bit cheesy and awkward at first, but it accepts what it is and that grows as part of the charm, any flaws just end up giving this character. A weird, entertaining and enjoyable show with emotional moments. That is something you don't get with many other shows these days, it's great that this show didn't try to take itself seriously and be realistic, it just wouldn't have worked given the source material. You can really tell the level of respect and love given to the source material in this, it just goes to show, when you adapt something good and stick to the source material you can end up with a great show, something many other directors and show runners should follow, this is a prime example that sets the standard for future adaptations.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Spock Amok (2022)
This episode was ok. Still a good show though.
There is just some aspect of this show that i'm starting to notice. And that seems to be that some of the writing doesn't seem that believable, it feels like some of the scenes are forced, unnatural, like they are trying to hard to achieve something. Like how Lana and number one are bothered that they are not in the "in" crowd so they try to be fun and cool. I get Lana cause she's a bit young, but number one, I expect more than that especially for someone who is in a leadership position. This kind of story plot seems like something that would appeal to children or teenagers. I'm seeing bits and pieces of this show up in the show, it just feels like they are trying to be fun and cool, they don't need to, stop being insecure SNW.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Memento Mori (2022)
Very good, minor plot holes.
This episode had me at the edge of my seat. For the most part. There were some scenes that made think that that's not quite rational and that wouldn't realistically happen, and when I say that I mean the human interaction stuff not the sci-fi stuff. But, thankfully it was small enough not to ruin the episode.
Halo (2022)
Mixed bag.
There are some good things about this show, but there are more bad things. I think the actor for master chief is great, Cortana is as well. The rest of the actors are ok. The set designs are pretty good and a lot of other designs such as vehicles, ships and spartan armor is done well. But...
The plot is not very good, and the writing isn't that great either. The creative direction this show went in was just not good. All this emotional drama, immaturity, secrecy and betrayal. It is equivalent to a teenage drama show. It literally felt like that some of the characters are psychopathic teenagers or just immature and emotionally unstable. And it seemed like that was the central focus of the show.... Not that there is an alien race trying to eliminate mankind, or to uncover the mysteries of ancient technology, well they did cover that but it felt like a sub plot, not the main plot, and they didn't do it well.
Also, while for the most part the special effects were good. The CGI during the combat scenes was quite bad, it felt like toy models were fighting each other. And you can tell they are using plastic guns and the bullets were done through CGI. It kind of takes you out of the show and you lose your immersion because it looks so fake. I'm mostly talking about the CGI action scenes, when they used practical effects it was quite good.
The Orville: Electric Sheep (2022)
This was very, very good.
The writing for this episode is great. The writers understand human emotion, morality, duty and logic, and how different people and perspectives interact with each other. This is very good writing, very good filming. This is easily one of the best sci-fi episodes in the past decade.
Moonfall (2022)
I liked it.
It's entertaining and it's a special effects spectacle. I thought the lore was creative and interesting and would like to see more stuff like this. It's decent sci-fi.
Halo: Contact (2022)
What an unexpected and pleasant surprise, the story is actually really good.
So I entered this episode as a Halo fan from games 1, 2 and 3. All I wanted to see at first really was the battles between UNSC and the covenant and was not expecting the story to be that good due to many failures from various TV shows lately. What happened though was the opposite to what I expected, while the action at the beginning of the episode was good and there were so many easter eggs thrown in from the game, it turned out.. ehh good, but not impressive.
It wasn't as I got through the episode that the way it was directed and the way the story was told was really pulling me in, and it was really building the tension up in all the right ways to the end of the episode. By the end of this episode, I was hooked, hyped and wanted more.
Everything about this show is excellent, CGI, costume design, world design and how the details of the guns, ships and armor feel like they are from the game. The story is good and the feels are right. The only two criticisms is that the CGI movements of spartans and elites feels wrong, and the ballistics from machine guns makes it look like they were using pellet guns when bouncing of the armor. But gotta admit, the SPARTAN armor is perfect, whoever did costume designs deserves a medal.
Really enjoyed this episode and I am hyped for the next one.
The Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World (2021)
Twisted source material for political agenda.
Was disappointed in this. The episode felt rushed and made badly, and honestly I think that is what happened because of cast leaving and COVID restrictions with them not being able to get enough people to work on this episode.
I think Rands plot was good in this episode, but that's about it.
The other thing I don't like is how they just manufacture drama that has nothing to do with the books, they need to stop this. It's unnecessary and even non book readers could tell what they are doing.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Story not that good
I have edited my review after completing the season. The further the show went on the further it goes away from the source material. As someone who was looking forward to this series I was disappointed due to the changes, removals and adding new stories that aren't part of the original story. Not only that, the writing is not good, it's fairly inconsistent and full of irrational choices and decisions in the story. Things just happen in here that don't make any sense. Not only that this show seems to have an agenda, it really side lines the male leads and puts the female side characters as the focus.
Foundation (2021)
EPIC
Haven't read the books.
Signed up to Apple TV+ just to watch this.
As a lover of Sci-Fi I thought it was epic.
What makes this great, it is on a grand scale, world building is awesome, acting is great, story is intriguing. What makes this even better... is that so far its not focussed on personal emotional drama (i.e. Star trek discovery). Sci fi is meant to be imaginative, creative, build an interesting universe and tell a great story and this is what this show does.
Need more stuff like this.
