Martha (2005)
Martha is a Delight!
Having enjoyed her previous TV show, I was unsure of what to expect with her in a talk format.
To my (somewhat) surprise, I have come to really enjoy her in this format. In her previous show, all of the segments were highly produced in a more 'lesson' format. While that format was a great one, her new show allows viewers to get to know her personality a little better.
While she does like things to be perfect, she does make mistakes and laughs at herself in the process. Even being a fan of Martha's, I honestly did not expect the candor she demonstrated regarding her time in prison. (I wondered if the subject would ever even be mentioned.) Instead, it has been to the forefront of many of her shows and she has even dropped several great one-liners to her guests about it.
Martha is clearly a very happy person who enjoys what she does and I believe has a renewed sense of spirit. That type of attitude is contagious and makes the show fun to watch!
The Apprentice: Martha Stewart (2005)
An Excellent Show!
This is an excellent follow-up to Donald Trump's Apprentice. It offers a slightly different perspective on the hiring process than Donald's version. While more friendly and less harsh, her demands for excellence are no less than Donald's.
Overall, I think the teams chose sides badly in the original episode and other criteria should have been used. A reshuffling is definitely required.
This being said, like Donald's Apprentices, I personally would not consider hiring any of them, ever. However, they make for good entertainment.
The only fault I would have with the show is that I wish there was more of Martha.
Serenity (2005)
The Audience Clapped
I can probably count on one hand the number of movies I have seen where at the end the audience clapped. Serenity was one of those.
With so many movies falling into a cookie cutter mold, it's so refreshing to see a movie that is as close to being 'original' as is possible. Where so many movies deal with black-and-white, good-and-badSerenity deals with many shades of grey, which I believe in the end is more relatable and delivers drama on a much more powerful scale.
There are moments that will make you jump and ones that will make you cryand some of the best one-liners you may ever hear. The fight scenes and space battles are simply amazing with new types of action that I'm sure other movies will soon try to replicate.
I only saw one episode of the TV show, long after it had been canceled, so I didn't really consider myself a fan until tonight. I'm going again tomorrow.
