The Sacrifice Game (2023)
A game of the wicked
I'm giving this 8/10 because I'm so amazed by 2 factors:
1- the acting. Mena Massoud surprised me as a villain after I saw him in the (not bad but not good movie) Aladdin.
And the girl playing Clara, if I don't miss recall her name is Georgia Acker (or Acken?) She did an amazing job. Certainly a dancer and for a moment I thought that it could be M3GAN ... She's not, I checked
Het delivery was great, her physical performance was incredible, she made a formidable and unforgivable villain. She took all my attention and can't wait to see more of her.
2- the probably original plot twist, with a satisfying end.
I said probably because it kind of reminded me (in a way) to Let the Right One In.
The good: plot and acting.
The bad: period setting was not very clear.
The awesome: Great lead villain and ending
Recommend it always, my type of movie.
Watch at your own risk, but you must watch to give a calification.
The Marvels (2023)
I liked this one over the first but...
Truth is he first one was entertaining but not good. I gave it 7/10 because I loved Samuel there, and certainly the effects worth it. Bit the story was pushing and not simple with ideas that calls a particular public and not all can relate.
This one, is better on that. Trio chemistry is awesome, acting is pretty good and the story is better: Is about growth and team work accepting differences between the participants.
This time three make everyone and everything
Effects are superb
But here is the point: we are tired of pushing and want quality over quantity
This movie could have been that, giving Carol a more grey over black and white quality, with her interaction with Kamala and Monica being that highlights. But again is pushing how magically everything is resolved and solved because of the plot deus ex machina that is usual in these movies since a while.
The villain once more in a Marvel product have a relatable reason to be, although it doesn't justify her actions we can see through her, but is not well developed, is not well directed either, slowing and "dirtying" the actress participation (it reminded me to TDW actor playing the dark elf) she was under used and relegated to an annoyance.
I would love the first one was better to not have en effect on this one. Sadly it have it and is not good.
It's 8/10 because I liked it more, bit it should be 7,5/10 because of all the flaws it have.
The Fearway (2023)
This is fine(?) but I prefer Reeker.
So, I juts watched this movie and I was like: "I've seen the 2023 down quality version of 'Reeker'"
Reeker is a 2005 movie, with a sequel 'No man's Land' in 2008. IT HAVE ALMOST THE SAME PLOT AND EXACTLY THE SAME PLOT TWIST.
I've read people calling "The Fearway" something in the lines of "Jeepers creepers meet Duel".
NO ONE REMEMBERS NONE OF BOTH REEKER'S MOVIES??
A lot of things, even if you haven't seen those two, are predictable since the beginning, "Oh, she's..." or "Ah,fork... those two are..." and I'm being vague, because you can fill the phrase with whatever you want in, and you'll guess everything that happen.
I knew how it would end since the two leading "hit" something on the road, get out of the car and they found "Ice". And it runs 1 hour and 17 mins. With ending credits (still felt too long)
What's different here from 'Reeker'?
SPOILER ALERT:
The bar/rest place is a management site in between "worlds" , where the people who works there (and made a deal?) are connected to High Authority (name the Gods or the Moiras or whomever you want) and it have the weaker end I've seen. It was absolutely bland.
The acting is not bad, the actors do what they can with what they got. But there are three characters in minor subplot that were wasted, they were very good.
The Hunter was amazing, but (sadly) reminded me of The Creeper. The actor did pretty good though.
But the manager character was ... damn,I don't have a quality name for someone who's absolutely negated and contradicts himself between lines in the same scene.
The two leadings, as said, are good, but lack chemistry, sadly. And the age gap is more than evident, so line drop that they knew each other since high school (I don't recall exactly, but he says so) is not good.
I didn't understand why it was kept in script if you cast two leads with more than 10/15 years gap.
Subplots were wasted as well, specially the thing in the room.
So, here I go.
The best: good use of the desert and locations. Technically is pretty cool. The Hunter was fine, loved the actor.
The bad: script, the non coherent dialogue at time, the underused actors and subplots, and the ending.
The worst: the unoriginality.
Rate 5/10
(because I liked the Hunter and the film the technical parts).
I'll not recommend, I prefer "Reeker" hundred times.
Watch at your own risk.
We are all critics, but you have to watch to make a critic.
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
I liked this ine better than the original. And yes, all villans deserve redemption arcs...
I've seen the first one when I was a teen. At that time I watched almost every stuff Bette Midlers's as I loved to hear her sing.
I'm not Disney fan, actually.
Long story short I HAD to watch Hocus Pocus 2 just because I liked the original. Sara, Kathy and Bette just killed it on it. They were ABSOLUTELY terrific.
And the teen actress playing young Winnie just won me over, she was an absolute jewel!
I had not a lot of expectations because all critics downing the movie.
But,oh boy... this exceeded expectations I even didn't have.
I loved how they gave the sisters a back story. They gave them a reason, and still they have the "villanous ways". Just to see, to be understanding. All people deserve to have their redemption, every one deserves a second chance (except my ex).
Thing is a lot of people are mad because the "real" villain is all of the religious hypocrisy. It clearly shows when people "cry out" against this one.
The real message is to respect other people differences, even the good girls are not privvy to judge the fool boyfriend (who thinks he's funny and trying to make conversation) but in the end they all saw the differences and gave the prosper respect. I liked something the young new one said about been different and disliked, she did cool.
Free will is humanity's greater gift and this movie reach that message perfectly. We need to understand other people choices, and that all people have stories and that's why they behave in a manner.
It's not perfect but is more than enough.
It's brilliant.
Actually is my 3rd Disney movie I like (Hocus Pocus original and Jungle Cruise)
I'll give this one 8/10. And I highly recommend it.
We're all critics but we need to watch to make a review.
Watch at your own risk.
The Sandman (2022)
Dream or the Endless came true
Lucifer has no gender. Because angels have no gender.
Death has no race. Because Death is the substance of the end of all.
Neil not only agreed on the casting but also casted some actors himself.
So, complaining about that when the very creator of the source material was heavily involved on this take, make no sense.
I admit I couldn't think on no one else but Tom Ellis as Lucifer, but Gwen's portrayal of that character was *chef kiss* so close to the graphic novel character, intimidating and suave at the same time.
No gender swap was bad, the actress playing Lucienne was impeccable. Constantine was fine.
Those two retained the essence of what they are in the graphic novel.
And I cannot imagine other than Sturgess as Dream/Morpheus. He was AMAZING.
I do confess not all episodes where of my liking, but overall I did LOVE it!
It started, as the graphic novel, as Horror Fantasy and then slowly transitioned to Dark Fantasy Thriller.
Crew work was subtle and detailed.
It shows that is a work of love for the source material and I can see it. It was admirable done.
I fully recommend.
8.5/10 for me.
Watch at your own risk.
From: Oh, the Places We'll Go (2022)
I don't know... I'm so invested but so confused
I don't think this episode was intended as a season finale. It doesn't feel like a finale.
It went slow pace and creating bonds that would lead to a high note on an end with a crushing "twist" maybe.
I also felt there were re shoots. Boyd's beard and Victor's hair looks very different from (not pun intended) previous episode).
I'm really eager for season 2.
I did enjoyed the season in a whole and have a lot of theories.
8/10 for this episode. 8.5/10 the whole season
Waiting for next season. It'll be a LONG wait.
Planet Dune (2021)
Asylum... are you feeling fine?
So
Sunday night. Nothing much to do nor nothing good to watch. I got caught with this "Dune" mockbuster.
I said "ok." But being Asylum I didn't have any expectation at all.
But...
FX are pretty decent
Acting is not awful
Not full stupid dialogues and some backstory for the characters and some development for them
And some pretty decent action
Asylum, are you alright?
Is not the usual trash
Although is not prefect this time I can say is an evolution
The bad: some stupid lines and some stupid bad decisions on characters. Not a lot, thankfully
The good: pretty decent FX and npt awful acting
The best: Sean Young
A pretty solid 6,5/10 so I'll put 7/10 because it can be rated like it on imdb and I give an extra point for Sean
Not that bad and kind of enjoyable.
Horror in the High Desert (2021)
Kenny Veach case adaptation with a twist
So this is a mockumentary fusion with found footage movie, with a start of a thriller ending on a horror note.
I read the plot summary and decided to watch it because the resemblance to Kenny Veach disappearance was uncanny.
The movie isn't about Kenny Veach but "Gary" is really close to what he could have be.
First I felt a little bored untill I got hit by the characyer development and the good acting of the actress playing the sister and the music.
Couldn't stop watching till the end so hooked and involved.
For me was surprisingly good as I'm not fan of mockumentary films. And only a few movies on this genre really got me (as instance The Veil, Ejecta, or even The hive 2015). Nordo I like found footage movies.
But this one make a great union of genres and did develope in the plot and "scares".
For me is a strong 7/10.
I recommend it.
The good: acting, music, setting
The bad: slow pace at first and some scenes were unnecessary.
The best: music (again), that ending. The use of a real event to make an adaptation for people who knows the case could see the resemblance.
Watch at your own risk.
We are all critics, but remember that we must watch to make a critic.
Mimic (1997)
Never trust anyone, even your shadow
I find difficult to say that the theatrical version was one of my favorite movies along with The Relic. Both I've seen over my twenties long after both were released. I found it difficult because after I've seen it a second time, it wasn't the same impact about those insects and fear of them I felt the first time and told myself "It just so jumpscares and not dark mood as Del Toro signature in "Cronos"... I certainly "enjoy it" and would give the theatrical version a solid 7/10 but not sure if recommend, because it wasn't thrilling me enough...
I found out after my thirties that Del Toro disowned that theatrical version and was working on a Director's Cut, to approach his vision, because the "Scissorhands" (and now infamous) Weinstein brother messed with his work (which didn't surprise me at that time because around it those two had a bad reputation with their "workers" specially with ladies). I could get Director's Cut and loved it. Now I can really recommend that version and rate it 9/10 as one of my favorite movies ever.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Sanctuary (2020)
I liked this... So...
Here is the thing: people are hatin STDisc for being one of the iterations in ST that make differences.
STO shows the first inter-racial kiss. Critizes discrimination and even more.
STNG shows torture and more than one controversial stuff (in one of the most incredible episodes in the whole franchise). Let's not beggin with cloning and intelligence.
STV damn, first woman in command, and a pretty good one.
STE was critical of all "political correctness" that was before Federation´s construction morale.
I haven't seen DS9.
Canon changes, we have almos 11 movies in the franchise that prove it.
Star Trek is about embracing differences and construct all in diversity, no matter that the difference is: religion, politic views, sex orientation... and I can keep going becaus ALL iterations (series and movies) have something on it on mind to show us how WE people accept what is convenient to us, but despise what it is not.
As far, STNG and ST Picard are my faves on the franchise, but STDisc is doing a good job on creating controversies on viewrship with double moral standards, me included.
I'm not actually "a fan" in this pronouns stuff (I actually found it useless, but... nonetheless...) it was good ad to show us how difficult is to everyone accept the others way to live.
As for the "Prime Directive" canon, well... They are bending it a little, aren't they? But let's remember that Federation is no more and they are trying to rebuild itself.
I loved the previous episode, and I liked this one a lot. It can be better.
But I miss Shazad Latiff! I want Voq back! Darn it, Booker is pretty cool, but I really lived Shazaf in that double role.
Hanyô no Yashahime (2020)
An animated Fanfiction
Well, it is not spoiler: Rumiko didn't even write any of this. she only did characters design.
This reminded me of Dragon Ball GT, Toriyama would come to write Dragon Ball Super after DBGT because was not absolutely at all his story.
So, I'll watch till the end of it, but it's absolutely a Fanfiction made, produced and writed from, obviusly a fan of Inuyasha's charcters, for giving them a disturbing turn.
Sesshoumaru has to become one of the most controversial in this serie, because there's a lot in the fandom eaggerly waiting for Rin to be his wife.
For me, would be really disturbing to make a charcater with such a development to turn that father/daughter relationship into a romantic one.
But, and is a big BUT, in feudal era this kind of relation was pretty normal.
Today is grooming and even the "P" word.
And I absolutely will dislike that if it come to fruition, but I cannot criticize something that on those times, even for an animé, was a common practice.
AS for me, if the infamous SessRin happens, I will deny existence of this sequel and stop watching it, I'm not gonna get angry or anything, just stop watching and that is it.
In the other hand, Yashahime hadn't give me nothing, Each episode is slow, when in Inuyasha could happen A LOT in 24 minutes, in Yashahime, nothing happens for most an episode or maybe something happens in 2 minutes at the end.
I don't know.
I wanted to like it, to love it, as much I loved Inuyasha... But is not working.
As so far: 3/10... I will see when series ends I'll give other rate (or not) and other full review.
Skin Walker (2019)
Not that bad, not that good. Just.. Ok
I was reading the reviews before putting my own here.
This is not a 2 or for stars (of 10) not a 8 or 9.
It is slow and it intends to tell the story from the "point of view" of an unreliable narrator, that being Regine herself.
As of this kind of style in narrative has had been done before and in a much better ways with more effective results, we cannot say is terrible just for this.
It is actually a little derivative, and even predictable (I, myself, resolved the "mystery" within the first half of the movie).
Performances are pretty good, for the 2 main characters, because Udo Kier is excellent in what he does, and Amber gave a great performance as a fractured soul with a fractured mind.
The end and resolution was kind of knowable since a mile away. But, it was well executed.
This is intended as an "artsy" thriller drama. Not that bad, but not as profound as it was trying to be.
For me could be 5/10 but I give one more point for Udo and Amber (and even the child actress portraying young Regine).
As a curiosity: Hellheim Institute called my attention as Hellheim is the Hell Realm in Norse Heathenry.
Not exactly recommend it, but for making a critic we all must watch before. And to the very end.
6/10 for me.
Watch at your own risk.
Murder Manual (2020)
Rating only for "Shackled"
"Shackled" is a short almost 12 minutes from 2012 starring Emilia Clarke that I had the luck to see a while ago. It serves as a kind of opening and ending to the anthology proposed.
Third short on the anthology I've seen it on a horror YouTube channel (I don't remember if was maybe Crypt TV, or maybe Alter).
The rest of the shorts in the narrative I haven't seen but they were completely indifferent to me.
Narrative in the anthology suggest a line for a guide in a Murder Manual. That being said, none of the shorts follow the 'style' suggested, therefore there's no 'connection' to the numbers in the guidelines and any short's plot. So that make all not only disconnected but also very random.
Acting were good on three shorts, the mentioned "Shackled", the third one, and the crazy religious one.
As for me I give it 5/10 only for the Emilia appearance.
The good: some photography and camera works on 3 shorts (the ones mentioned), some good acting, and at good directing work.
The bad: random plots, no explanations, no way to develop rooting for any character. Some bad camera work on most shorts.
Not recommended, but everyone most see to make a critic.
Watch at your own risk.
Kowabon (2015)
J-horror 1 - technology 0
This is quite interesting. It's an hybrid technique filmed in live action then later animated.
Stories evolves around Japanese urban legends that involves technology artifacts used in everyday routines, mostly what has to do with social media.
It is pretty cool and fresh, but plot is not quite original in some points, nothing we haven't seen before in others J-horror movies or animes.
But it was very well acted.
Shorts usually are better than features, but I would wish more time to develop some explanation and proper closure to stories.
Well done, and recommend.
The bad: too short. No so much original in plot.
The best: hybrid techniques (live action/animation). Good acted.
8/10
Soul to Keep (2018)
Another "soul to keep" in a cabin in the woods
Well, I will start with this:
There is NOT such thing as dark Wicca. Wiccans DON'T believe in angels and/or demons. They worship Mother Nature, and for them humans are responsible for their actions. Representation in this movie isn't accurate at all. Or is a mock.
That being said, here's my other issue: why if you like the movie and make a good rating/review is fake even tho it have low rating just because a lot of people doesn't like it? This always bother me, because I usually like things that other people don't and not for that I will make a fake rate/review, it's just my taste, dudes. I like what I have like, it doesn't has to be the same of you, we are not the same and there are a lot of movies for each taste.
Finishing that: this is not as great as a 10/10 nor as bad a 3/10 or even 1/10.
I am searching to watch "My soul to take" for a while, instead I found myself watching two movies with similar names. This one being the second one.
I liked it this one, because it have various original things among the clichéd "cabin in the woods" style of movies that started with "evil dead".
Warning: spoilers ahead.
For instance there are several plot twists, and each make sense in a good way. I did kind of see coming the last one, because there were a lot of signals of it. Even the victim count was a surprise, I wasn't expecting so "low body count".
Acting was pretty good, except for two of the male protagonists.
The deaf actress did it awesome, and the villain actress was pretty cool. I think their names were Sandra Mae Frank and Kate Rose Reynolds (I don't remember exactly ate this very moment, but I guess these are the names).
Camera work was shaky some times and did not add nothing to technical aspects. I think that the director was trying various techniques, to make approach to the various "cabin in the woods" style, but that one in particular didn't felt quite right. In some cases it looks amateur. Actually there are great scenes and good techniques the rest of the movie.
Special FX would've been better if they were made practical instead of CGI, but the rest is pretty good.
All in all, I liked this movie a lot, I didn't love it tho, and I wouldn't watch it again.
It is a 7/10 for me.
The bad and worse: the actor playing the Internet addict and the other one playing the jock (the wiccan boyfriend). Some weird CGI.
The good and best: the acting specially the deaf actress and the villainess. The script, and the various plot twists. And the end.
Watch at your own risk but we all are critics and need to watch to make a critic
My Soul to Keep (2019)
MSTK and those monsters in home
There will be spoilers. You are warned.
I will be honest and say I was trying to watch "My soul to take" because I'm a huge Wes Craven fan.
So I went through movies and found this thinking it was the movie I wanted to watch.
Saturday night, fries and beer, and my couch.
To my surprise it wasn't what I wanted.
I get angry and bad humor got me. But money spended, and night ready. I said to myself "At least I'll see it and not waste my money just for a mistake"
Starting watching, and this horror was actually a PG13 horror for young people, even kids.
Darn, I was angry. But I wasn't gonna just throw my money and said to me "well, let's go and see how this ends".
But the leading child actor playing "Eli" got my attention. And his friend "Sam" was great supporting. Even "Hillary" was cool.
All children in this movie did an amazing job.
The adults were correct, and I do will hate "Emily" for ever... This girl was great acting to an awful character. Kudos to her, she did make me hate "her". She just left her little brother alone in a huge house where everything and anything could happen, just to go out with a boy (who by the way is also irresponsible), she is the whole culprit here
I know girls like Emily, and by the time she goes to have fun, leaving her very young brother alone I said "I wish something happen so she will learn to be a good person, because she is trash".
I shouldn't. Man, I shouldn't.
The end of this was a slap to my face. Even tho I had a bad feeling in that scene were Hillary tries to help Eli. I did had it, but I was mistaken.
So, I started having got the wrong movie, hating the pg13 horror.
But ended loving the kids actors, the atmosphere, the camera work... And crashed by the end. I really felt bad, and I couldn't just let that go. I did kind of cried.
This little kid was alone in the house, let there by her irresponsible family. His parents trusted their daughter. They couldn't know.
THAT WAS A TWISTED TWIST. And a hurtful one.
The worst: pacing, could be better with another classified rate (for above 16 or 17) with more intense and interesting moves scenes would've worked better.
The bad: nothing really happens until the third act. But is forgivable. And I would love a little more about his parents punishing his sisters, she deserved to have a huge punishment, seriously I hated that character.
The good: acting, atmosphere, camera work, script (it could've been better).
The best: Parker Smerek. The end plot twist.
I recommend with 8/10
But remember, we must watch to make a critic. Don't let anyone to tell you what you should like or not.
Watch at your own risk.
The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson (2019)
I wish this couold have a Zero rating for this fan fiction
Well, this is the third movie of this director "inspired on true events" that is far from all factual recolections.
I was warned but I had decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, who knows? it could be good or at least could have technical aspects that could save the movie. It haven't none. It wasn't good... at all. It doesn't have technical values to save this from the pile of stink it is. And I am so sorry for all people who worked on it behind cameras (except the director) they were doing their job to put food on their tables.
How Suvari, Stahl and Manning are in a trash like this? They are even o over or under acted on this, like they were just waiting to take the money for their work and go away (and maybe die from boredom)
I strongly believe that this director is very keen of fan fiction and if he could just write this garbage with no name or relations on real events, maybe and just maybe this could work.
Taking direction on crazy theories and dumb ideas doesn't plant a doubt on the case.
This man is trying to make believe that victims were to fault on their death (like he did on his take on Sharon Tate).
If there could be a doubt to make feel O.J is innocent it's not in this garbage of a pseudo fan fiction movie.
I don't usually do bad reviews, but this deserved my full attention.
I haven't hated a movie so bad as I do hate this one.
ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL
Titans: Trigon (2019)
What SHOULD have been if producers HADN'T cut the first season
I have read a lot of reviews saying this should have been the end of season one.
Personally, I saw it was very rushed. Obviusly notorius changing in Rachel's and Gar's wigs from one shot to another in one scene demonstrate that reshoots has been done.
Season one was first announced with 13 episodes, then a cut to 11 was done by the producer (WB?). So it really hurted the plot, because you can tell that this it was supposed to endure a two episodes battle against one of the most powerful and cruel character/villain as was hinted (and declared) severly by Kory herself and even those who wanted to bring Trigon back. Instead we have a half hour of conclusion.
Well, DCUniverse (or WB?) have done it again. They did it to Swamp Thing (from 13 to 10, and rushed the cancellation after that) that deeply affected the wrapping in the story at the end. So, it is not new to them to do stupids thing like this that was done to Titans.
First, SPOILERS AHEAD!
Now: The group gathered at the force field just to be invited and do nothing. Not kidding, really nothing. Clearly that developed and explained differently in the two missing episodes that were cutted.
Some scenes like the horror-esque scene with Gar and Rachel in a room, trying to hide from Dick, obviusly were more elaborated and longer than what was shown to us.
Kory tells Donna she was the Titan who quit, that is OBVIOUS an interaction with full dialogue proving they had a lot of time to discuss something we didn't even know they had about Donna's backstory (I hope you can understand me).
I have questions like: was Angela a twin and not the real mother of Rachel as suggested previously by some scenes and photos at her house? was what all the deal with Hank and Dove joining? it would be nice to know why Rachel brought back Dawn from coma and instructed her to bring Jason's help. They (all of them) were absolutely useless in the "rescue", not to mention in the battle.
The battle itself wasn't clear o definitive. We couldn't appreciate Raven's full power with the gem... And: was Trigon absorbed by it? Raven was completely badass but also completely underused as a fighter in that scene. We couldn't see all of her range of power.
END OF SPOILERS.
So, we have 2 hours compressed in 32 minutes, that made the episode so messy and incomprehensible, with a "bad" wrapping plot. And CGI that was cool in the dark, but was very bad worked in daylight (that also CLEARLY rushed).
All in all, I loved Deathstroke appearance, as well as Bruce and his chat with Dick, that highlighted the episode.
I actually liked it, just not loved it as I did the entire first season.
Waiting for the next episode, and wishing that WB doesn't damage this season like they just did cutting 2 episodes in the previous one (and like they did with Swamp Thing, even cancelling it... sorry I can get over that).
8/10 just for Raven, Gar's snake, Deathstroke and Bruce. And for Hawk and Jason interactions (that were absolutely awesome).
Watch at your own risk, but remember we must watch to make a review. We are all critics.
Legion: Chapter 27 (2019)
"I am The Alpha and The Omega, I eat monster for breakfast".
David Haller is an unreliable narrator.
We finish the series with the eyes of a baby, in the same way we started to watch this whole story. Since the very first episodes we get he have mental issues as well he have a very powerfull mutation that gave him the omega level status, making him unstoppable and almost "immortal" (?) as well as his nemesis.
I think it was a very well end, but I am not satisfied with a couple of things.
First I don't get all the development in Faouk's character with was presented in previous seasons as the "monster" who made grow his "sickness" as Gabrielle named it. He had his own agenda, retrieveing his body to be the most powerfull being in season 2. In the first was feed from David's illness and power.
Yes, he wants to help David in this finale, but I strongly believe it was his own benefit and not just because he "Loves the boy", or how he tells Charles "The one thing that started as a prison became a person". We saw from past Farouk that that wasn't an issue as he have enslaved a lot of persons, turning them into children he can manage with no difficulty. But he wants to help David because how you rule the world if there's not a world to rule? That's is my thought on it.
Instead he said he did it for "paternal love" he grew on "his boy". Not buying it.
Again, David is an unreliable narrator. We have seen all of this story through his baby eyes, so... it could all be a dream of a future that it could be if he doesn't have a mother's love that can turn his anger into something else, if he doens't have someone who understand his "sickness".
On the other hand Sydney is another issue that bothers me. In season one, she fells for David, thing that was easily turned into hate for Farouk's words in Melanie's disguise in season 2. Suddenly she wants to kill him, not help him to prevent the turning into evil. Yes, David did something wrong, but, it could be different if she didn't pointed him with a gun and instead told him "I know it is you, but I want to change that, helping you to not become evil" as she said in the infamous trial AFTER she did wanted to kill him. That will always bother me. As a character I see no relevance in Syd, she had two episodes for her development that went to nothing, one in season 2, and one in this final season. Her character didn't add anything, her "finding out about life change" easily could be done by Lenny, Melanie or even Faoruk himself to add something really relevant.
This was never a love story, it is David's life all along, and his fight against himself.
We know that adult David is far gone, he is beyond saving, he kills everyone, in his narcissist and delussional view is a good do, because "no one who dies is really dead", because he will "Fix everything". Let's be honest, he didn't have to, fture Sydney started all this, if she didn't kidnaped him and make him promise "not to tell" it would have been different, she could say "You need help to not become the destryer of everything" or something like that. Anyways, he wanted to fix everything wrong, most of all the wrong done by him that he had become the one who ends the world.
David got what he wanted, maybe not the way he wanted it. His final goal is achieved, he changed the past, but he did learned it is not necessary to kill to achieve that.
I think that Harry Lloyd's performance as Charles was great, not to say the wonderful actres who played Gabrielle (I don't recall her name right now, but I guess it was Stephanie). Navid Negahban was truly incredible as the "double" Farouk, and still, he looks as he was hiding his true intentions, he was awesome. I regret we got no more Aubrey's Lenny at the end, that is so sad for me.
And Dan Stevens killed it as David and his multiple personalities Legion.
I would love a wrapped up more in style, showing us the results of the changing in past that David achieved. As for instance: to know about Kerry and Cary, Clark and Daniel, to know if Melanie and Oliver are still in the astral plane, what happened to Lenny, all of them in present. Maybe also Syd, but her is not a character I am fan of.
But his was a different kind of show, we will not get any answers, just because all of this unrelaible narration.
All in all, it was an amazing end, I just needed a little more. One more episode would be appreciated (haha)... maybe a movie?
This was a hell of a journey accompanying David and his unreliable narration.
I am one of the Legion (maybe a nice personality addict to tv series) since the beginning to this end... and we hope more to come.
Terminal (2018)
Who said mystery is a lost art?
All I can said is I liked this neo noir film, and I am not a neo noir fan.
I got this film just unwittingly... And Margot Robbie left me without a word. She is a tremendous actress. Her eyes have more expressions than any word.
Simon Pegg surprised me, but I must confess that after seeing him on "The boys" I knew he would do an incredible job with his character.
But I am truly surprised for Myers. I wouldn't see him as an serious actor, because I can only see him as "Austin Powers" kind of humorous (?) characters, and some "Shrek". To be honest, he did a good performance, and is cool, I'll grant him that.
The best: Margot Robbie. Good plot and pacing. Good visuals and cinematography. Good end, unexpected, with a plot twiste I didn't see coming... Almost, kind of.
Too much duality always hide the real nature of things, and too much change of voice got my attention, you know?
The good: very good acting from the ensemble cast.
The bad: kind of messy sometimes, and to much info for so short film. All in all, forgivable.
The worst: some plotholes. Forgivable, because are not noticeable until you see the film a second time.
And... The poster/cover is a spoiler (I hate when they do that)
For me: 8.5/10 but 9/10 because of Robbie.
Watch at your own risk. But it worth it for me.
Swamp Thing (2019)
#saveswampthing
I just waited untill the last episode of the series to make my review.
This series is freaking awesome. Despite all cliffhangers left, that took my breath away... I loved every moment on episode 10. And the whole serie.
Derek Mears was breathtaking and completely stunning in his performance as Swampy. Crystal Reed did it well, as well Andy Bean, and guest star Ian earing.
Story was well told, and script was coherent at all time. Writers were spot on at every second.
This is was it MUST BE on every show, and DC should learn from this show, as well for making a movie so good as this.
No more to say except that the hashta should be raging and storming internet.
If fans could make aware of the love of, for example "Lucifer" and achieved to be saved by Netflix, the same goes to "Swamp Thing"-
The whole cast and crew deserve it. Swampy deserve it.
So...
Let's do this and
#SAVESWAMPTHING
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Fire and Ice... The song is ending...
So... I am loving this season, since s7 was a complete fanservice work.
This season gave us the all the shades of gray that human nature have.
I liked this episode, and it shattered me.
I am a huge fan of Daenerys, and her development is as I thought it could be, because in the very beginning (EP. 1 s. 1) she was out to get the Iron Throne.
People is angry because none of the theories they had is getting to fruition.
It's unexpected, it's human, it's exactly what GRRM said: things will get worse before they get better.
Remember season 1 when we all believed that Ned will be the heroe and he got beheaded?
That is what will happen in the end... Nothing that we are expecting.
Thanks to D&D for not following the path of the fanservice they threw in s7
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Dissapointed... Time is no joke. Loved the FX and action, disliked the plot.
I'll be dropping SPOILERS here out of frustration. This movie is PURE FANSERVICE.
First of all, I will confess I'm not a Marvel fan, but I do love the 20 plus movies that conform this MCU. I started watching them because I am RDJ fan, and I really loved the first Ironman movie (and a liked the second one a lot, not liked the 3rd) and I did see all the movies.
I grew up seing them all this ten years, from teenaged girl to adult woman, and I did have great expectations for this movie. It is NOT the event of the year, and it is not the end of an era, is just a movie with no sense. Let me explain... it not work as a solo movie, and have HUGE plotholes.
Second of all, I loved Endgame in the technical part Visually is stunning. Action sequences are clean and awesome, and very fluid. Some comic scenes were simply cool, and really made laugh, for instance Scott and the first attempt to make a time travel.
This movie is like AIW in the way that it wouln'd work as a solo movie, at all. And I did liked AIW a lot, it was far better than Endgame.
It's three hours film, that could easily would be a two hours film, there are scenes thatshould not be in the movie and are there jus for Fanservice.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
And now, here is my frustration: The Plot.
It revolves about time travel to undo what Thanos did. The idea is to go back, take the stones, make a new gauntlet and make back all the half universe Thanos erased. But here is the issue: the mere fact that they did take a stone in past, they are CHANGING EVENT and preventing from happening. Taking a stone would make Thanos not to have it, and therefor the events of AIW would not happen.
During some scenes the characters mention time travel movies discrediting them, and disgracing science fiction (not to mention this is fantasy and fiction film, but still it have to have some science, that the characters DO mention a lot). But they should take as a base and foundation all that is written, like Stephen Hawkings work, Einstein... too much? Well, take Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, etc.
Time is no joke, and that is what The Russo did here. They laugh at us, giving a nonsense plot.
Another issue that annoyed me: Peter Parker comes bakc to his school and all of his friends are there the same age as 5 years ago, so... I will call them Peter Pan and the Lost Boys here. Yeah, you can argue that all of them are gone with the snap... all the college? No... they didin't.
Steve Rogers decision to stay in the past CHANGED ALL EVENTS and the first avenger movie didn't happened, and not to mention it is suggested that he married Peggy. That would lead to erase people from existenc: Peggy married in the prime timeline (just for calling it some way) and had children, and they had children. Steve himself make out with her granddaughter, who is now erased from existence: is he a murderer? I friend told me she like to prefer to think he just dance with her and left her to make a life. That also would erase people from existence.
And last: Steve appears in this prime timeline as an old man, but this timeline should have chamged and nothig we just see all this three hours had happened.
The only thing I have some sorry is for Romanoff death. It wasn't a "the thing you love most" sacrifice like Thanos sacrificed Gamora, but she did a selfless action, just to give his friend whom she loves like a brother, a chance to have his family back.
As for all people criticizing Fat Thor, well I consider that fan, but unnecessary. Let's say that that gave Loki all the reason: Thor is only a king because is Odin's son, and not because is worthy. He cannot lead his people, and he don't want to, is very clearly seen. Is a cool dude, and a fan guy, and he have all Odin'd hipocresy.
END OF SPOILERS.
So, for me is a 7/10.
I would recommend just to see how the saga ends, and no more.
You have to watch to make a critic, watch at your own risk.
Doom Patrol: Hair Patrol (2019)
I love this show... Could the Hairy Girl be...?
Well, after that past week episode, which was awesome for knowing more of Kay/Jane, Rhea show hit me with this weird and great episode about The Chief and The Hairy Girl.
I confess I've never read the comics, but I did my homework and did my research on the characters, and I know all about Jane. She is an incredible character to develop.
So, I'm surprised to suspect that the Hairy Girl could be Dorothy Spinner... And I don't think any fan of the comic that watch the show had questioned this.
So, I've read about The Chief and I found out he is pretty "evil" and very dark in comics. And this episode gave me that. He doesn't really care about the group he himself had united. He only wants his Hairy Girlfriend (Dorothy Spinner?), and the sort of immortal life she gave him.
I cannot wait for the next episode.
Star Trek: Discovery: If Memory Serves (2019)
If Memory serves... There will be Spock
There will be mild spoilers, consider yourself warned.
Usually I don't write review for an episode for a series, unless I have finished watching, or it deserve it for a heavy reason.
This one deserved my complete attention.
I am a huge Star Trek fan, but I must confess that I never watched "Deep Space 9", "Voyager" nor "Entreprise"; although I did have seen all the movies, included the J.J Abrahams reboot (which I did liked a lot). And Spock is may favorite character from all. So, "Discovery" is my new connection to the series since "The Next Generation" (being Picard my second fave character).
Discovery's first season had a slow start, but after the third or fourth episode all turn out to be completely interesting (except maybe the actors speaking in klingon and the new designs on that race).
It have a lot of nods to TOS, specially the whole Mirror Universe arc, which I did enjoy. I was so pleased.
The only thing that I don't have feels for, is the "Sibling" connection between Michael and Spock. Why? This relationship was never showed ever, not in TOS nor the movies. Michael's character was never a link hinted in any way.
They could make the bond be another one, but no... family has it. It is not logical (pun intended).
I am a huge Spock fan, and I wasn't pleased, but I did give it a chance.
So, despite my resent on that matter, I started watching the second season. All was leading to Spock appearing in the series. And when he came: I found this emotion-crazed bearded man, and I wasn't pleased at all. WHY? NOT LOGICAL (again, pun inteded)
I do remember "the Menagerie" and "Amock Time" (and some human conduct from Spock in other episodes and even the movies), but this characterization didn't get me, on the contrary it did botter me a little, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt.
And then "If memory serves" came... Dude, it was awesome! BEST CROSSOVER EVER!
First I was confused, thinking I got in the wrong series to watch, so, I closed the streaming and get in again... but I did was right, I was in Discovery.
Darn it! Anson Mount is JUST LOOK LIKE Jeffrey Hunter a lot. It was stunning.
And he did a wonderful work.
Melissa George did a nice job as Vina, but it didn't convice me, she could giv her the deepness Susan gave her. But she was fine.
Finally: Ethan Peck as my beloved Spock! Although I do prefer Zachary to him, he did a wonderful work, changing from emotion-crazed to logical scientist in a moment. And his voice is so cool in the inflections (or the absence of them).
Interactions with Michael where pretty cool.
Just "you think the beard is working?" was a highlight! Because I am eaggerly waiting that beard gone.
And the explanation as for the distance Spock has taken from his adoptive sibling (I still don't like that) was a good thing, all good fan knows that"half-breed" is the worst thing to say to Spock, because he idolize his mother, and he accept his human part because of her.
All in all, this episode was the best from both seasons of this series, and I am very pleased to see Spock in his logical self again.
This series deserve more. As for me, it have a fan.
9/10 for this episode.
I can't wait next episode to see more.
The worst: the characterization of Vina, but the actress did what she could.
The best: the opening crossover, and Ethan as Spock (and all his interactions with Michael and Pike).
Watch at your own risk.
