Reboot (2022)
Genuinely funny!
Not laughed at a sitcom for ages like I have at this. It's an interesting set up with an old show being brought back but what really makes this is the characters/ actors and the witty one liners. The drama in the show such as old lovers reunited and family dynamic of the father daughter writing team gives it an interesting dynamic that most current comedies don't handle as well. Really hoping it gets a season two as there is so much to still explore. If you're looking for a laugh out loud lighthearted comedy then this is definitely for you. It would be a shame if there is only one season of this.
Not Another Happy Ending (2013)
Unfulfilled potential
All the concepts were there for a good movie but it just never quite fit. Probably cause the two leads didn't have particularly good chemistry. It's frustrating cause I feel if this would have been edited right and had better casting then it really could have been something special. However, it was mediocre at best, in fact I felt like I was watching a long running tv programme. It did have its good emotional moments in parts but overall the movie wasn't that entertaining because by the time I got to the end, it was predictable and I also didn't care that much. The Scottish setting was beautiful though.
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
Hocus Pocus for the next generation!
Is it as iconic as the first movie? Probably not but does it have the same iconic characters combined with lots of fun and mischief?? Absolutely! I went into this movie with no expectations and found myself very much enjoying it! Laughed out loud a couple of times too! I wasn't a big fan of the newer characters but they probably appealed more to a younger generation. It was definitely weird seeing the witches with things like Alexi or remote programmed hoovers but also wonderfully hilarious. Not to mention the iconic songs featured. Give it a go! Or risk being cursed by the Sanderson sisters!!
Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022)
More Loveable Minion Madness
I laughed out loud several times during this movie. The kids loved it too. Was a really great family movie for everyone to enjoy and wasn't too long either. Would recommend.
Senior Year (2022)
Fun cheesy teenage movie!
This gave me such nostalgia for cheesy 80s romantic comedies. It was just so predictable but also very entertaining. If you're after something with substance stay clear but if you after fun and easy this is the way to go.
The Bad Guys (2022)
Decent enjoyable watch but forgettable
I loved the message of this movie and the characters were great. As a family movie it was great to go and watch at the cinema with the kids. Some laugh out loud parts. Would I watch it again? Probably not but I don't regret watching it either.
Encanto (2021)
Disney does it again!!
A fantastic soundtrack courtesy of Lin-Manuel Miranda combined with an extremely interesting story which contains an important message! The visuals were stunning too. The kids and I loved it.
Sleepy Hollow (2013)
Watchable but not gripping
This has got all the elements of quite a show; a little bit of mystery and horror mixed with time travel and the paranormal. I watched the first episode with interest waiting to be pulled in. Yet, I never was undeterred I watched episode 2 and 3 waiting to be gripped but again nothing. I can't quite my fingers on why. It wasn't bad! It just wasn't that good either. The whole point of a show is to make you feel something whether that's excitement, horror, surprise ect. This show just felt indifferent.
Hypnotic (2021)
Great concept; badly executed!
I think the reason that this movie is such a letdown is that it had the potential to be so much more!! A man who can talk you into doing anything he wants? The torment, the nightmare, the thousands of scenarios that could have come from that, but nope we never get beyond the creepy therapist. It's such a shame as this movie could have been great!!
The Hate U Give (2018)
Fans of the book will be furious!!
Wow, they literally took the best things about the book and got rid of them. I understand the idea of creative licence but it was just plain ridiculous. They completely cut of out a character called Devonte, they wrote out the more raw emotional scenes with Starr debating over whether to speak up or be silence and the whole Sigourney has a gun didn't even happen in the book. Also, Chris abandoned Starr during the protests??? He stayed with her in the books. This is quite possibly the worse remake of a book I've ever seen; I loved it so much and found this movie utterly annoying.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (2016)
Nostalgia mixed with unfulfilled potential
I can tell you the exact problem with this series from the get go. It's almost like the writer in some cases ignores the fact that it's been ten years since the show ended in terms of character development. The only exception being Rory who sadly, with her lack of ambition, becomes more unlikable than she was towards the end of the original series. It's very hard to believe that Lorelei and Luke just put off getting married, Rory never really achieved much career wise and still has a friends with benefits relationship with Logan. The only thing that was nicely done was the handling of the absent grandfather and how life has to move on. If the ending of this series would have happened at the end of original then it would have made a lot more sense, but it's not as poignant as it would have been because Rory is now a fully grown adult. It's nice to watch just for the nostalgia but fans of the original will probably be disappointed that the character development has basically gone no where.
Her (2013)
Overhyped but worth a watch!
This movie certainly has an interesting concept which makes you think, but the story never really goes beyond its original premise and expands on it. Maybe it's because I've seen too much other tv shows and movies with similar concepts but I found this movie to be ok and watchable, but also forgettable. The characters were likeable enough but I feel like the writing could have been sharper in parts. The premise is that a guy falls in love with his IOS, the problem is that before we can really understand the problems this presents for him as individual and in society, it becomes normalised and everyone seems to be in relationships with their IOS. The concept of the IOS growing beyond its hardware was interesting but not fully explored to its potential to peak enough curiosity or interest. Overall I'd say it's worth a watch but not as brilliant as many people make it out to be.
Enola Holmes (2020)
Not bad but not good either...I felt nothing.
The premise of this movie was intriguing. An edgy female character ahead of her time related to an already well known and liked famous detective Sherlock Holme. The problem is there is nothing here that sets it apart and makes it original, even the mystery seems very predictable. Sure, there are some fun parts and Millie does a fine enough job as Enola Holmes, as did they rest of the cast. However, the problem remains that by the end of the movie I didn't feel I'd gained anything what so ever by watching it.
Can You Keep a Secret? (2019)
Worth a Watch!
As a fan of the books I like many other reviewers on here was disappointed at how much been removed from the book. I mean sure the basic premise of the story is there but they have missed out all those quirky and fun parts that made us swoon and root for the main character. Having said that, there were times that I laughed at some good parts and Tyler H was well cast as Jack Harper. The sad fact is this had fantastic potential but falls way below the mark.
Boyhood (2014)
Overhyped!!
Waited to see this film for years thinking it was going to be something special and it was totally unoriginal and uninspiring. The acting was good but that was about the only thing I liked about this film. Wondering why it got so much attention
Cool Runnings (1993)
It's bobsleigh time!!
A fun family movie with lots of laughs, good characters and a nice story which will leave you a warm feeling in your heart.
365 dni (2020)
Illogical human beings!
The actions of characters were so bizarre that there were times I thought they were dreaming. The main character for example, she gets kidnapped by this crime boss who says he will make her fall in love with him. She basically tells him where to go and the next minute they are together! It was like one long acid trip! I had heard controversy about a forced relationship but that's far from accurate; he's obsessed with her and she's a tease. They are both so vile they deserve each other. The only redeeming quality is that some of the sex scenes are quite steamy.
9/11 (2017)
Not the best, not the worst...average!
You can't wait a film about 9/11 and not be moved in someway. There were some good aspects to this; the characters were likeable, the graphics were pretty good ect. However, some things were not developed to their full potential and this showed throughout the story. Absolutely worth a watch but don't expect an above average movie
Lost in Space (2018)
Sci-Fi at its best!!
This TV show reminds me why I became a science fiction geek. It's got everything; a good plot with exciting scenes and problems to be solved, interesting characters/ relationships which grow throughout the series and then it's got the actual science fiction element too with the planets and the robots ect. Just sorry I have to wait so long for the next series as they don't make many good tv shows like this any more!
Searching (2018)
A Great Mystery Thriller
Put this on not knowing what to expect but from the first 5 minutes I was hooked. From the way the film tells the story through social media and technology to all the twists and turns of the story this was a great paced thriller that keeps you guessing right up until the end. Would recommend to those who love a good mystery!
The Post (2017)
Rather Disappointing
I usually love a nice Tom Hanks film or a film that is based on true events so I really thought this would be for me. Sadly it falls far from the mark as I couldn't seem to form a connection with any of the characters and that is why you don't really care what happens to them during the film. I had to force myself to sit through it and there was no real pay off as it's very predictable throughout!!
Downton Abbey (2019)
A sheer delight from start to finish
For those of us who loved Downton Abbey dearly, it's beautiful heart still beats through this nostalgic fun movie. The characters are well written; even the new ones and the beauty of what was a delightful era for the privileged and those who were fortunate enough to work for them. If you loved the series then this should be a real winner!'
A Simple Favor (2018)
Wow; prepare for the unexpected!
I watched this movie thinking it would be a cute little romcom and boy was I wrong! It's a mystery thriller that keeps you guess and Blake Lively does amazing as the powerful seductive Mom who goes missing. Anna Kendrick plays the all American likeable mom to a tea while the husband is the right amount of smooth and charming to keep you guessing about his character. Not been surprised by a movie like this in a long time and very glad I decided to watch it!!
Philomena (2013)
An Emotional Journey!
This is a true story which is full of heart and hope. It is the story of an Irish mother desperately trying to find a son she has kept secret for all of her life. The movie's story is enhance by the wonderful acting of Judi Dench, whose portrayal of Philomena is moving and compelling. Steven Coogan also offers a lot as the bitter and angry journalist who is moved by Philomena's plight. I would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys a film with a lot of heart that makes you think of how blessed you really are.
The Drowning (2016)
A good idea badly executed!
They could have done so much with this movie and it's main concept. However, it spends too much time trying to set the scene and not enough on actually telling the story. Some of the camera angles were very unusual and the characters were all unlikable which if the story had been carried out in the right way may have added to the premise of the entire film. Avoid if you want an interesting story.
