Nancy Drew (2019)
They ruined Nancy Drew
Is anything sacred? I guess not. I don't know who owned the Nancy Drew name but in my opinion it was sold for greed. The original witers (several) must be rolling over in their graves. It would have been nice to keep these characters as they were, smart but innocent, and the stories clean (no swearing and gore) as the books were written and highly enjoyed by millions(?) of young teens and and kids. I don't understand why today's teen shows are full of sex and disrespect for parents, other adults, and those in authority. No wonder our young people get in trouble. They are not taught values. This is what they are taught. It's just irresponsible. Parents: if you don't mind allowing your young teens to be influenced this way, let them watch the new Nancy Drew series. They can watch her having sex (no nudity) with her boyfriend Nick, an ex-con, George having an affair with a married man, Carson Drew having an affair with his wife's (who died) best friend, and being involved with a medium to talk to the dead. Aside from those moral issues, the plot is fairly predictable. Production values low. Sigh.......
Falling Inn Love (2019)
A place where everyone knows your name...
Come on you guys with the low ratings -- don't be so critical and snobbish. Enjoy the sweet love story and beautiful scenery of New Zealand. The village and the residents were charming. Makes you want to live there. So what if it was somewhat predictable. The lead couple was attractive and made you root for them. The story was simple, entertaining, and satisfying, with a happy ending. As for the film overall, I found it refreshing because there was no swearing and vulgarity.
Mrs Dalloway (1997)
Sad
Being a senior myself, I watched this, admired the acting, the sets, but felt incredibly sad at the end. What could have been.... Makes you question your decisions in life. I have not read the book, probably never will. I do like British productions so I would recommend this film for others who appreciate British films.
Saja (2019)
Edge of your seat! Well done!
This is the first Korean production I've seen in a movie theater and what a difference it makes (duh!), not only the large screen but the sound effects. That's because Korean films are generally not shown in American markets. Wish they were more widely available. This is a story about faith and good triumphing over evil. This movie is intense, scary at times, and will make your skin crawl. But it also evokes emotions, joy, and relief! It is not cheesy. It is extremely well acted, directed, choreographed, and believable with good special effects. Kudos to Park Seo Joon and the other actors who all stayed in character and performed well. You forget they are acting. Unlike the seminal film, the Exorcist, there is no vulgarity, excessive swearing, and blasphemy (the reason I rarely watch contemporary American films), but the shock value is there and the message is powerful. If properly marketed, this film can be as popular as Train to Busan, and representative of the impressive Korean film industry. As a Christian (protestant) viewer, I heartily recommend this film whether you are a believer or not as it is entertaining, not offensive. You will cheer! Bravo!
