Difficult to follow and uninteresting.
7 October 2024
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the extremely positive reviews on here, those smell fishy if you know what I mean. The movie is highly overrated on here. First of all it shouldn't be categorized in the comedy genre as it's not a comedy, maybe I just didn't get the humour but normally there's nothing wrong with my sense of humour, let just say I'm easily amused. But that's not even the reason I didn't like this movie. The major reason is that it is way too complicated and not even that interesting. I already have difficulties to remember people's names when there are a lot of characters but in this case they switch bodies which makes it a complete mess to follow. Maybe it's my old age, whatever, I don't care. It's just not a movie that stands out, on the contrary.

The Wasp (2024)
8/10
Good twists and turns, and top acting.
6 October 2024
Lately I've been watching a lot of thriller/mystery movies, some better rated than this one, but most of the time I figured out the entire story after twenty minutes which is not really beneficial for my personal ratings. The Wasp took me by surprise though, didn't see this one coming and that's what I like about movies in this genre. Not a complete satisfying ending but still much better than what I was expecting considering the rather low ratings. Naomie Harris and Natalie Dormer played the two main characters and they did a really good job in my opinion. The entire story/movie is about them but it never got boring, on the contrary. A good watch if you like surprising twists and turns.

Nothing surprising but not bad.
5 October 2024
Nothing is what it seems when a twisted one-night stand spirals into a serial killer's vicious murder spree. That's the description of this movie on IMDb, but I figured the entire thing out after twenty minutes so no real surprises for me here although there is a slightly suspenseful vibe to it. Even if I wasn't surprised it was still entertaining. The whole story is about the two characters played by Kyle Gallner and Willa Fitzgerald. They both did a good job with their performances. Decent cinematography what made the movie look professional. Not a bad movie if you look for some easy entertainment.

The Gentlemen (2024)

Not to be compared to the movie The Gentlemen.
4 October 2024
Guy Ritchie created some really good stuff before like Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and The Gentlemen (the movie so not to be compared with this one season series). But he also made some more mediocre movies so even if I'm a fan of his creativity and his certain way of shooting scenes I was curious if this series would be added to the classics or the average stuff. It's somewhere between I would say, certainly not bad at all, rather entertaining to watch, but it won't become a classic. Every episode tells the story of a problem that needs to be solved the gangster way and that's good entertainment. The cast was well chosen, all good actors. Vinnie Jones, once the hardest football (yes football and not soccer) player, has proven since long that he fits perfectly to play the hardass and Guy Ritchie clearly has a weak spot for him, a good choice like always I would say. One season so bingeworthy for sure.

Painful to watch, nothing good about it.
3 October 2024
I got once again fooled by the extremely positive reviews and the high ratings here on IMDb. It's one of those movies you pick, you start watching, and after two minutes you already know this is going to be a bad choice. Absolutely everything is of low quality and it shows. But you hope the story will be good, which it isn't by the way, so you continue hoping for better. The acting is below average, the special effects are laughable, and the cinematography of very low quality with tons of bad choices. It's a mystery to me, and to my wife that hated it even more, what people love about this dumpster movie. Probably the usual fake reviews from friends of friends of somebody involved in this abomination. Somebody even stated it was the best movie he watched in three years... I guess he never watches movies then because that is absolutely impossible. I watched six better movies in the last three days...

Deadpool at its best.
3 October 2024
First of all let me state Deadpool is my favourite Marvel character so I might be a bit biased here. I just enjoy his foul blabbering a lot and Ryan Reynolds is just perfect to play that character. Deadpool and Wolverine together, that was just a great combination, the constant bickering between them is just highly entertaining. Hugh Jackman is also perfect to play the always grumpy Wolverine. In addition you get tons of other Marvel characters in a story fuelled by perfectly choreographed action scenes. I mean it's impossible to get bored with a movie like this one, there is just too much good stuff going on. Great cinematography. I'm already waiting for the next Deadpool, can't get enough of it.

Lighthearted French comedy.
2 October 2024
Un P'ti Truc En Plus (or A Little Something Extra for the English title) is a lighthearted French comedy. Most of the actors are disabled or mentally challenged, but they were a joy to watch. Credits to them for making this a funny and easy-to-watch movie. There are enough funny scenes to keep you entertained. It's not to be taken too seriously, the message is clear, everybody can learn something from somebody else, disabled or not. Some people might not find it funny but then again comedy is the most difficult genre to please everybody as we all have a different sense of humour. My wife and I did enjoy it, like many others will.

Ted Lasso (2020–2023)
7/10
Positive mental attitude.
2 October 2024
As a big football fan (yes I'm European, we call it football and not soccer, which makes completely sense as it's played with the feet, not like American football which is played with hands) I was obviously interested in this show, certainly considering the very high ratings it got. And because of Jason Sudakis, that I enjoy watching normally. Here he plays the always positive thinking coach Ted Lasso. I have to admit that I enjoyed the first season more than the other two, where sometimes it got a bit too cheesy and not really football related. Plus the character played by Juno Temple is just annoying to watch, I can't say she impressed me. But other than that it's an easy watch, full of positive mental attitude, something people need more in this life. A good watch but not as good as I thought it would be.

Killer Heat (2024)
6/10
Not really the genre I like but watchable.
1 October 2024
Killer Heat is a film noir, although here in sunshine Greece it feels different. Let me start by saying I'm not a big fan of film noir, I can't remember one movie in this genre that wowed me, but since it was my wife's turn for picking a movie I tagged along. The mystery vibe was already lost for me after twenty minutes as I figured the whole thing out which was not beneficiary to keep me on edge. Joseph-Gordon Levitt should stick to comedies, there where it all started for him, with the brilliant show Third Rock From The Sun. He's not a bad actor but this genre is just not for him in my opinion. All in all it's a watchable movie, that feels like a tv-movie.

The Rain (2018– )
6/10
Watchable but not great.
1 October 2024
The Rain (not the best title to be honest as the rain is only relevant in the beginning) is a Danish post apocalyptic sci-fi series that is watchable but certainly not perfect or amazing. For that there were too much childish romantic accents in the story. I mean, you're in love, a person dies, and you're in love again one episode later, it's just annoying to watch. The virus part of the story is what keeps it interesting. As for the acting, it's not bad but nobody will win an Oscar here in the future. It started all interesting but towards the end I wasn't sad it finished. Good enough for a one time view.

Not a bad prequel but not as good as the 1968 classic.
30 September 2024
Apartment 7A is a prequel to the 1968 horror classic Rosemary's Baby with Mia Farrow. Not a bad prequel but you would expect from a movie that is 56 years younger that the quality would be better, certainly considering the advanced technology we have now. But it wasn't the case, which I find a bit disappointing. But like said before it's not a bad movie, I was just expecting more horror. Julia Garner proves again she's a good actress, not the most attractive woman but certainly a good performer. The rest of the cast was good as well. I guess the lower ratings this movie gets is of people that were expecting too much of it. A faster pace and lesser long duration, combined with more horror could have changed the ratings.

Not bad again, good if you like post apocalyptic movies.
27 September 2024
I enjoyed the first two movies of this trilogy so I was excited about this one. In my opinion the second movie was the best one, followed by the first and this new latest one. This one is about of the same quality as the first one. It's just different actors this time. But Lupita Nyong'o is a good actress that I enjoy watching. Like usual there is not much conversations in this movie, obviously as you have to be quiet like the title suggests but that doesn't diminish the quality of the acting. The action scenes are well done, could be better though to make it even more spectacular, but if you like the doomsday post apocalyptic genre you should enjoy this one as well. I don't think we need another Quiet Place though. They better just stop with it whilst it's still good.

Okay to watch once.
26 September 2024
Western and horror, not really a common combination of genres, but it's interesting. The story wasn't bad, a bit slow though, like most westerns where there is a lot of traveling horse riding I would say. The horror parts were a bit late into the movie to make it a good movie. Now it was too long of a wait to get into the action. The acting was okay, no bad acting here. The idea was there, the execution could just have used a faster pace and more horror scenes. It's all watchable but it's just not a western/horror that I will need to watch again in the future. For that there are way better movies worth a rewatch.

Thelma (2024)

Lighthearted comedy.
25 September 2024
Thelma is a lighthearted comedy, showing a 93 year old grandmother going on a trip trying to recuperate some money she lost. Thelma is actually been played by a 93 year old, June Squibb, which still seems to be fit enough to be convincing with her acting. Her partner in crime played by Richard Roundtree was actually younger but sadly passed away last year. It's an easy watch, makes you think a bit about the direction we all go (if we're lucky enough to get to that age in a decent shape). You won't roll over from laughing but there are some recognizable scenes where the elderly discover the world wide web and other technologies that were funny.

Doesn't deliver in the end.
24 September 2024
By chance I watched two movies in a row with Ron Perlman. The Instigators, a much more recent movie showed an older and more voluptuous Ron Perlman, with a smaller role but definitely in a better movie. In The Last Winter Ron Perlman has a much bigger role and like the rest of the cast it still was decent acting but not a great movie. The story was just a bit disappointing, I was for sure expecting more of it, at least more horror which was very minimal here. There is a mystery vibe but the outcome was just not really worth waiting for. It's all low budget and unfortunately it showed at the end what makes this one just an average movie.

Easy entertainment, plenty of action.
23 September 2024
The Instigators is an easy-to-watch crime/action movie. With Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Hong Chau, the three main actors, you get an entertaining movie. The comedy is mild though, well at least to me. It's fine but I wasn't rolling over from laughing. The problem I have with these kind of movies, and that's almost always the case, is that the characters always seem to find time to have a casual conversation or mindless banter, in the middle of the action, whilst they are close to die or in a hot pursuit. I find that slightly annoying to be honest and that's the reason I will never rate these movies higher than a seven.. But if you can get over that it's an entertaining movie, perfect to relax a bit.

Simulant (2023)

So far it's still sci-fi.
22 September 2024
Simulant is about Artificial Intelligence, so it can still be classified as a sci-fi movie, but not for much longer I think. In a couple decades this movie will be probably be classified as a drama as we're not far away from these kind of events. In Simulant it's about artificial humanoid robots, made to serve us, and not to harm us, but there is only a thin line seperating us from that. You might say it's all been done before but I still found it enjoyable to watch. A decent entertaining sci-fi, with a well chosen cast. Everybody was convincing playing their characters. I've seen better movies about A. I. but also worse. This one deserves a higher rating in my opinion.

Rebel Ridge (2024)
7/10
Entertaining crime/revenge thriller.
20 September 2024
If you're looking for an entertaining crime/revenge thriller Rebel Ridge might be for you. If you are not really fond of the police and their corrupt behaviour this story might get your blood boiling, it sure did it with me. Aaron Pierre & Don Johnson have a stand off, entertaining to watch for sure. It seems Don Johnson only plays evil characters, besides Sonny Crocket in Miami Vice I can't recall him playing the good guy ever. Good acting from both of them. Also from AnnaSophia Robb and the rest of the cast. Not a bad movie in my humble opinion, it made me a bit angry but all in all a satisfying ending made up for it.

Borderlands (2024)
7/10
Entertaining enough for me.
18 September 2024
Well apparently a lot of people were disappointed by this movie, mostly because they were big fans of Borderlands, the games, and it wasn't meeting their expectations. I can understand that, when you have high expectations, but for people like me that have no clue about the games and so do not compare, this movie is worth watching if you don't mind some easy popcorn entertainment. Yes the story is a bit exaggerated, like usual in this genre I would say, but still it's easy to follow and entertaining. The CGI's were well done and the acting speaks for itself when you see the names in this cast. With Cate Blanchett, Edgar Ramírez, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis you have actors and actresses that have nothing to prove. My wife and I enjoyed it and were happy we didn't pay too much attention to the low ratings.

Entertaining, certainly not that bad.
17 September 2024
I almost skipped this movie after reading the extremely negative reviews it got on here, certainly the ones stating I shouldn't trust the first ratings as most often those are biased, a thing I totally agree with. But a friend watched it and told me it wasn't that bad so I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did because it was entertaining. Maybe not the best in this genre but still worth a watch if you like that kind of stories. I sure do. Hayley Erin and Sonya Walger play the main characters and we're both convincing. Sure there are no Oscar winning performances, neither for the script that feels like a déjà-vu but it's just easy entertainment and sometimes that's just all that I need.

Shyamalan lost it with this one. Like watching an awful concert.
15 September 2024
I'm a fan of M. Night Shyamalan. He managed to entertain me more than once with his previous movies like Knock At The Cabin, Old, Glass, Split, Signs. All these were in my opinion very good. Others like The Village, The Visit, Wayward Pines, The Watchers were just good. But this one is by far his worse movie. I'm being generous rating it a five to be honest. What was he thinking introducing his daughter Saleka Shyamalan as a singer? Her music is terrible. And I'm being polite here. It was a horrible experience to have to listen to that garbage. If it was only one song I guess you could tune it out but half of the movie is just like watching the worst concert ever. Even if you paid me a massive amount of money to attend a concert like that I wouldn't go. She's also not a great actress. Directing is what she should do, nothing else. About the story, well it's full of plot holes. By far M. Night Shyamalan's worst movie. Please come back with something decent without that awful music.

Longlegs (2024)

Creepy Cage in this entertaining serial killer movie.
13 September 2024
Longlegs has a weird story but it's certainly entertaining so credits to writer/director Osgood Perkins that did a good job making a movie that will please the amateurs of psychological thrillers/horrors. Not as good as classics like Silence Of The Lambs or 7even but certainly not bad. With Nicolas Cage it's always a gamble as he plays in really good movies but also real stinkers. He must have huge bills to pay that he accepts to play in a lot of movies, sometimes without reading the script I guess. This time he was just unrecognisable, not as an actor but in his appearance, great job from the make-up artists. He plays the creepy character and he did a great job as he was really creepy. Maika Monroe took on the leading role as the investigating agent and she was good as well. All in all an entertaining watch. It won't ever be a classic in this genre but it's certainly worth watching.

Sweet Tooth (2021–2024)
7/10
Not bad as a Fantasy series.
13 September 2024
Sweet Tooth isn't a bad show if you like the fantasy genre. If you liked Locke & Keys or/and His Dark Materials you should enjoy this one as well. Personally I thought His Dark Materials was slightly better. This one is of the same level as Locke & Keys. Again a lot of kids, which can sometimes be a bit annoying, but overall they did a good job playing their human/animal characters. The leading actor playing Sweet Tooth was in my opinion the best actor of the kids. The story is easy to follow, sometimes a bit far fetched or not making much sense but in this genre that can easily be forgiven. Easy entertainment for the entire family.

Stalkers belong in jail, certainly not getting money.
28 August 2024
Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning were both very good in this mini-series loosely based on true events. Especially Richard Gadd who convinced me the most was just astonishing. Baby Reindeer is not for nothing one of the most watched series on Netflix. The irony of the whole hype is that the actual stalker in real life recognised herself and is now suing everybody because the little crybaby feels this ruined her whole life. Her name which I won't mention as the attention seeker is already getting to much attention, not only made ridiculous demands but she also put herself in this position as no-one really knew who she was until she had the luminous idea of coming out and so pushed even more people watching this brilliantly told story about her pathetic and sad life. Even if only a tenth of this story would be true she deserves to rot in prison, like any other stalker that has been warned multiple times. There are boundaries you do not cross. When you're not wanted in somebody else's life you get over it and move on, but some sick jealous narcissists just can't get the message. Brilliant show that is binge worthy. Short episodes so a couple days is already enough to watch the entire show.

Not a bad French horror mini series.
19 August 2024
Not often France comes with a decent horror series but this one is certainly worth watching. It's just one season so you can basically binge watch it. The best horror parts were the scenes where Mireille Herbsmeyer was involved in. She has definitely a creepy face when she wants to. For the rest the story wasn't bad, it's an easy to watch. The actors were believable in their roles, no bad acting whatsoever. What I enjoy the most when watching stuff like this is seeing my wife being scared which results in me reenacting some scenes just before bedtime. It's my guilty pleasure, we both have fun doing that.
