Megalopolis (2024)

Go See the Wild Robot instead!
28 September 2024
I don't regret checking it out, but I got to tell you, I went in expecting a stinker and I came out with what I was expecting.

This movie was far too sure of itself. You can make the argument, that I was not smart enough to get it. Nah, this movie was not entertaining enough to want to get.

A series of fluff that just kept getting over bloated and evidence that every studio should have say on where their money goes because Megalopolis is what happens when filmmakers go unchecked.

Poor Adam Driver. Everything that i know about the dude tells me he was living the dream working with Coppola, yet from the moment he opened his mouth to give a speech, i knew this would be a downward spiral.

It sucks that I have so many bad things to say about a cinema master's latest film (So I'll say something good Nathale Emanuel is such a beautiful woman that the movie was worth watching every time she did a scene).

I say skip it, it's not worth it unless you catch it on Netflix on a day you have two and a half hours to kill.

It was, well. it was wild!
27 September 2024
I heard nothing but the greatest things about this movie leading up to watching this movie, so it was wonderful that it lived up to everything I expected and went beyond.

A little surprise that a lot of the jokes were at the realness of nature, some of these things Disney would not have dared to add to one of their films.

It's one of the reasons why this film is so good. It's great that other companies are able to create groundbreaking animation on Disney's level.

The animation was great and i loved the style of the movie. It was doing something artistically.

That story too was amazing it was just perfectly executed. A lot of thanks to the astounding voice cast.

Definitely the best animated feature this year.

Oh man! that was awesome!
22 September 2024
Surprised how much I loved this one.

This movie was awesome in ways that i did not see coming at all. It was literally like looking into the nightmares of a Hollywood actress and it was so bonkers and so disturbing, and I loved every minute of it.

Demi Moore does some true acting in the film as she pretends that she's still not hot and opens herself up to show us those insecurities of aging.

I also, thought this movie did a great job with the metaphor of who you were as a young person and who you are as an old person. There was a pure honestness about how one does change.

I have to admit, I was not expecting such a horrific look at the situation. They went extreme with it. So shocking.

Anyway, best two hours and twenty minutes you can spend at the movies.

Ok, action movie with cool action and some funny moments
15 September 2024
I'll say at least this for Dave Batista, he has great comedic timing. Is that enough to make him a leading man. All I can say is i already miss the muscle mass.

The strange part was watching Batista fake what he use to do on a nightly basis in a wrestling ring. I mean, despite losing 75 libs he's still a big man who stands out in a crowd making it far too easy to notice when a stuntman is being use for a simple body slam. Hollywood has tamed the animal.

On a positive note However, the action was good and the movie was funny. I thought it was perfect that the movie knew what it was to the point that it poked fun at itself. That just gave it the charm needed to cover up whatever it was missing

A cool watch.

Love the premised to this great coming-of-age story but I'm not wowed.
15 September 2024
I'll be honest with you, when I saw the trailer of this movie I though the Science Fiction of a 39-year-old Elliot somehow being able to communicate with her 18-year-old self would be a more in-depth background plot, but it was more sirealisum than any actual reason why Elliot was capable of this.

Next, not enough Aubrey Plaza. Not only was that a huge selling point, if you see Aubrey in the trailer and want to see the movie because of what you saw, then you don't need to see the movie.

I found the movie very generic in its metaphor about 18-year-old Elliot versus 39-year-old Elliot. Did I actually get to know this woman, or did I just get superficial reaction to the topic of your generation versus mine?

The chemistry between plaza and lead actress Maisey Stella was great (wish we had more). Maisey Stella also had chemistry with supporting actor Percey Haynes White which made the movie so enjoyable to watch, but I can't help to feel this movie could have been more. It just feels like a one trick pony, going by the numbers with not much substance.

Went in wanting to love it but coming out its mediocre.

Man! Did i enjoy watching this one!!
11 September 2024
For those people familar with the orignal movie you know how perfect a title BeetleJuice, Beetlejuice really is. For those of you not familar with the first movie, what makes this a great sequeal is that you don't need to be.

The focus on the story of a strange mom not getting along with her daughter until the daughter discovers that her strongness is legit is what carries the movie, and this story does not need any background info.

The only thing you need to know prior to coming in is what a master of the arts director Tim Burton is. I feel like he may have wanted to do this sequel just to show off what he could have done back in 88 with a little more cash.

Its bigger its more visual and its a nice blend of visual effects rather than relining on CGI.

So Much fun.

An excellent western!
11 September 2024
If you like westerns, you got to see it!

Peter Dinklage is amazing in it. Every attempt Dinklage makes to be a Bonafide leading man has never failed! He's shown time and time again that he has the chops, and this movie is no different.

But Juliette Lewis! This was a surprise indeed! Not saying she has not proven herself a good actor as well, but man! She locked down one of the best bad guy performances I ever scene. It's one of those things where the internet is going to need to make a click bait list of most underrated Villains in cinematic history just so they can put Cutthrought Bill on the list persuading the cult status.

Last but not least (well actually...) Jame Hetfeild. I have to admit I'm a big enough fan of Metallica to put in the effort to see this in theatres (which may not have been the cheapest choice considering its a Tubi original film and might be released on the format in a few days for free). Everything I know about Hetfeild is that he took a long time to come out of his shell to try holding some lines in a film, but he does it and does it well enough. It was fun seeing him act.

Surprisingly and oddly unique as a western too taking place in what must of have the very end of the wild west. No dates were given but it is interesting to see cars and bikes in a western. I'm guessing 1910 or 1911.

Anyway, it can drag along some times but overall, it was worth sitting though.

I enjoyied it but it sounds like i maybe the only one.
9 September 2024
I thought it was great. It's not a horror movie in the traditional sense but it feels like it which is a side swipe. It was too real as it was something that can I does happen. I myself may have been very terrified because i never been though it and fear having to deal with something like that.

There is a demographic thing as I feel I fit into what A24 was looking to hook in with this unique film but A24 overall audience maybe too young and hip for the story. I could be wrong, the last horror film from A24 I saw I think was Bodies, Bodies, Bodies which i also enjoyed but definitely would draw a different type of viewer.

I feel bad for Brandy cause it failed and it was not fault of the movie itself.

Reagan (2024)
7/10
Interesting watch
5 September 2024
The movie in itself feels like a Made-for-TV Movie of the Week. For me this has a lot to do with the narration of the film by Jon Vought as an old Soviet Spy. Not a fan of this style of movie and nothing about the movie made that experience better.

I did think that Dennis Quaid made a great Ronald Reagan, despite how strange he looked when they used Deaging tech to make him look younger and make up to make him look older, Quaid's performance in general was distracting enough to make it all work.

Though I lived through Reaganomics I'm too young to hold a real opinion of him, so I feel no sort of way about the fact that they took the thing that Reagan possibly did absolutely right in his presidency and exploited it for the best heroic effect this film can pull off, casue that's what made it a movie worthy of watching.

Blink Twice (2024)

So it is Get Out for Women!
24 August 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Someone told me that and they also said the movie was superficial. I don't know about that, but I believe the film was exactly want it needed to be.

Blink Twice became a dark twist down the rabbit hole that really disturb me. I think the metaphor of the plot was too realistic. As if something like this has not already happened exactly how the movie sees it.

But good work Denise Huxtable's daughter. Blink Twice was though provoking, emotionally triggering and most importantly very entertaining an amazing director on their first outing with a great cast.

Everything worked and i hope there is more to come.

Rob Peace (2024)
7/10
It was a great story!!
17 August 2024
It was heartwarming and touching and uplifting and sad all wrapped up in one, but it was real, just so real and it was honesty. I mean this movie paints a picture of Rob Peace and the picture was the truth. They did nothing to hide who this guy was at all just laid out the cards the way they were delt.

The only thing that may have been off balance was the acting chops of Jay Will. Will as Peace was absolute dynamite! I grew to care for what he was portraying on film as if thought he was my freind! I just want to put on record that's exactly what Oscars are given out for.

Chiwetel Ejiofor just showcased his diversity of talent with this one. Great Actor, i knew that! But great writer and Director!? This is the type of filmmaking i want to see over and over again.

A must see!

Borderlands (2024)

Not doing it for me.
9 August 2024
I was excited to see that Eli Roth directed this film yet not surprised that he could not hit the mark needed for this to be worth anything.

It's no Thanksgiving. Eli thrives in the environment of campy horror film playing satire to yesteryear with a finger on social commentary.

This could have been that, but it was not. Can't say the story was not relatable. In fact, it was so relatable it was predictable.

The movie is an Ensemble cast of interesting people, who you would have never thought be in a movie together. Cate Blanchet and Kevin Hart!? That's a combo you never expected. Too Bad Eli could not make it work, though it feels like both were trying it just did not click. In fact, everything that should have been interesting was very uninteresting.

I'm not familiar enough with the game Borderlands cause i was expecting a movie version of the TV show Fallout somewhat, but I guess the games are more different than I thought.

This is a movie you should watch at home.

Possibly a good story in a badly made movie.
5 August 2024
So, I'm not sure how much money Cuba Gooding Jr. Makes these days, but I feel like this whole movie's budget went to getting him to do 10mins of screen time.

As much as I hate to say this to such a positive story, I do feel like the storytelling was so bad that you could not help but to see the mistakes made in production. Thank God the sound was good i hate it when sound is off, but I could not help laughing at the bad visual effects use to make this movie at times when the film was supposed to be dramatic.

I will say they got their money's worth with Gooding. He's an actor who can hold his own and you can see that with him delivering the simplest lines in this flick.

Doesn't hurt that almost everyone else seemed incapable of doing this. Drama can be hard; this movie proves that.

The production quality of this movie though really through me off man. The nasty jail cell was a good concept, but it was a little too obvious this film was done in one place. There was a time in which Indonisea would be a cheap place to film a movie but that tells you something about the money they were working with that they could not afford to do it in Jakarta.

I cannot say that I wasted my time watching this film but i can't recommend because the cheap quality of production took me out of it.

Just a little better because it was a book i remember from my childhood
3 August 2024
It was unique that they decided to use an adult version of Harold and Zachary Levi did an amazing job being that grown up child. OfCourse Levi has proved that he can play a man child as Shazam so not really the biggest range in acting, which is great cause I thought it was charming and funny.

The dude from Flight of the Concords plays Gary who was actually a perfect villain for a semi children's story and I do mean Semi. Some of the jokes in the film felt a little too grown up. I know children will get them but not sure if you should tell them.

A similar movie came out this summer called If, but i thought this movie's kind heart had a lot more value to it so i pick this over IF.

Glad i watched it!
2 August 2024
I've been waiting for this movie all summer, or realistically snice I saw M. Night's daughter's lackluster movie the Watchers. I was geared up to see some M. Night Shyamalan and got spawn off instead so I wanted some M. Night.

It's a good movie it really is and Josh Harnett was really carrying this cause if you don't like him this movie would not work.

And Haley Mills!? I saw her name in the opening credits and then I saw her in the film. It's been a long-time snice i saw her in anything so i was definitely hung up on it.

Despite the Star power the movie flies on a great concept. A concept that interestingly revolves around the positivity of fame and social media. It also revolves around M. Night starting a possible singing career for another one of his kids. Hey Man, after what LeBron did for his kid, I'm feeling different about nepotism. The movie did not suffer because she genuinely has something.

I will say at first glance, it's not what I except from M. Night, but I did not leave the theatre disappointed that i did not get that.

Great watch!!

Below Average
29 July 2024
Using seasoned women in a comedy seems to be a genre in itself and the genre is picking up fast. As part of this genre The Fabulous Four is lackluster to films like Book Club and 80 for Brady. It might be that Diane Keaton and Jane Fonda have this genre on lock, which is strange because Sussan Sarandon is one of the hottest senior citizens out there, so this should have worked but it did not, at least not for me.

I do ponder. While the film is exploiting stars of a certain age there is very little comedy actually coming from this. We understand they are old and the movie leaves us with that and nothing else. Unlike films like Thelma in which I get a better insight of what happens to every human on the planet when they get old and that insight increased the entertainment value.

That insight is not found here as the women take advantage of their great genetics and the fact that they need not play old to tell a story about lifelong friendship, which i could have seen anywhere and have seen everywhere so The Fabulous Four is not bringing anything to the table and it shows.

Pass altogether.

Twisters (2024)
Worth every penny
22 July 2024
I saw this at the Regal 4DX and i tell you, it was a thrill ride. Gives new meaning to the saying.

I'm not exactly sure what to expect when going in, but i do remember liking Twister and waiting to see a cameo from Helen Hunt or something (herd Bill Patxon's kid made an appearance).

Twisters did not need it thought. It was greatest as a stand-alone. Truly Glen Powell is making his way to movie stardom and is doing it as fast as he can. It feels like the best movies I've seen in the theatre for the past year had this dude in them. He's got something and it works.

Its the most cliche story in the world about the lead failing her old team going into depression until being pulled out by someone from her past to try again and of course the romantic sub plot of two rivals who take most of the movie to figure out what their genitals already know, but Hey its cool. I think Glen Powell has going for him that he has chemistry with anyone.

But it's all about those Twisters. This formula means nothing without the action that comes from these storm chasers chasing some pretty visually dangerous storms.

Absolutely worth my time.

Insightful!
14 July 2024
Wait, did Colman Domingo learned the craft in jail?

I don't know, but there were some clips in the end credits that would suggest that.

Anyway, I did like the story that the film told. I liked its message on rehabilitation. I've herd of at least one program like this that actor Charles S. Dutton came out of as an actor. I thought it added something using real ex-cons to tell the story. Not much acting there I guess as they talk about prison, they know.

I also liked how the film was filmed. Those scenes where the characters were in their jail cell made me feel claustrophobic.

I thought the story was told perfectly and it was a very good insight as to how the program worked. I feel inlighten for sitting through it.

Exactly what I expect from Nicolas Cage!
14 July 2024
Overall, a good movie filled with unexpected story plots and twists. A very unique crime thriller due to the content background of the main character. Well-acted by some seasoned actors like Blair Underwood. It has a wooden style to it that I've seen other filmmakers do but here it's not so stiff and very warm All this said it was a great movie that held its own. Then you put in Nicolas Cage doing his Nicolas Cage to the level you pay good money to see Nicolas Cage perform on and it's game!

The praise is this is one of the best horror movies ever made. Will not give it that much, not even to compare it to all the horror films that already came out this year, but no doubt its perfect and well done and big Cage makes it a must-see!

Slow but stimulating.
10 July 2024
It was such a strange trip that seemed so narrow than it should have been. I feel like i liked the movie because of how strangely similar me and this little girl's life is. It does not match up perfectly but i got what she was going through enough to enjoy what I saw on the screen.

That is not the best review for a movie, because realistic the only thing the movie does have to it is a relatable factor because it does not come with much emotional backage to it. Although in fairness that could be the part of the film i did not relate to.

Honestly could not recommend this film to anyway. Although I was entertained, I fear that would just be me.

MaXXXine (2024)

Stands on its own as great movie but also makes a fantastic end to the trilogy.
6 July 2024
I was looking forward to this one ever sense I saw at the ending of Pearl that there would be a part three "technically" of the film X.

A24 even makes a unique horror trilogy with Maxine Minx (how is this not been used as a real porn name?) returning after her unique Final Girl run in X trying to make it in LA as a mainstream star.

More of a thriller vibe than a horror vibe with a not so sub story about what it takes to be a movie star in this business.

I enjoyed the large ensemble cast they wiped up to make the film with great acting all the way I will say it's not my favorite of the three I can see that. Compared to what came before MaXXXine was out of the ordinary in a trilogy that's out of the ordinary, but standing on its own as a homage to a lot of movies that came out in the 80s it was gold.

Wild action film!
4 July 2024
So the selling point for the movie was that this was going to be the most bloodiest goriest Indian film ever. As i started watching I did not notice anything out of the ordinary. Then i realized this film is a lot more violent than what I'm used to seeing in Bollywood films. Bollywood action films have plenty of action and fighting and the hero kills in large numbers, but this dude was doing it with his hands and the blood was pouring from everyone.

Nothing that i never seen before just never from an Indian film. The uniqueness comes from the fact that the whole movie takes place on this train. Just a constant flow of battles happening in the tightest area possible Some surprises really made this picture original to the genre and added to it being one of the best action movies done.

Cute!
4 July 2024
Wow! What a franchise! Four movies the spin off movies with the Minions. Never would have expected all this.

I enjoyed this movie. Would have never suspected that Gru would be the type of character that i would want to see over and over again but it is cool to catch up with him and the girls every few years. The film has some funny gimmicks in it and if you are a fan you notices some extras that you'll find cool.

I would just say this movie does not have the best soundtrack, but it looks like Pharell is saving that for his own project.

Can't say that I'm really feeling the villain though. A little too disgusting for me to watch.

From beginning to end it was a good film to sit through.

Well I really enjoyed it!
4 July 2024
Not gonna win any awards but it was a solid movie. Had its laugh out loud moments and if you are a fan of the other three movies you'll notice a format that's done in every Beverly Hills Cop movie.

It does take you back to the 80s though which was magically actual.

I feel like the most outdated thing for this Beverly Hills Cop movie is Beverly Hills itself. The city no longer seems like a odd place for a down-to-earth blue collar Detroit police officer to do his thing.

As we catch up with Axel Foely it was cool to see Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser Bronson Pinchot, and the dude who played Taggert in the movie, but what was Ronnie Cox doing that he could not appear in the flick and reprise his role?

The thing about it is its a good action comedy. Don't expect it to be as good as the first or the second,, just expect it to be two hours of joy.

This Rocked!
19 May 2024
I feel like Top Gun 2 is opening up a can of worms to produce movies about Ariplanes. It was a great IMAX experience but I have to say nothing overally spectcalar happen that i would recommend it over a reglar format.

It was an intresting story and like a line of GI Joe action figures their was a Blue Angel for everyone. They could be more diverse but that's really not the point, the point it they did do their best to showcase everyone.

This is why I say you can watch this on any format. For a film that was promoted as being for IMAX they could have done more airplane scenes or something. Not that what they did show does not blow me away, the documentary has a lot of talking overall. More suited for true lovers of Aviation.
