Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)
Art back in Cinema.
I'm baffled by the negative reception this incredible film has received. It's truly a remarkable piece of cinema. Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga deliver performances that are nothing short of exceptional, and the cinematography is visually stunning. The camera movements and composition are also amazing, adding to the film's overall brilliance. The soundtrack and sound design are equally impressive.
A special praise goes to Todd Phillips for taking bold risks and reminding us what cinema should be-an art form. His direction takes us back to a time when films were crafted with passion, depth, and artistry. I find it hard to understand the criticism of the script-it's far from weak. The story is intricate, filled with depth and layers that demand attention. This is a film that will stand the test of time and serve as inspiration for future filmmakers.
Lola (2024)
A vanity project gone bad.
I'm not even sure if this film deserves a bad review or if it's better to just pretend I didn't endure this incredibly bad movie. Lola feels like the director decided to film the beat sheet instead of the actual script. The pacing is rushed, as if the goal was to get through the story quickly just to linger on longer close-up shots of Nicola Peltz Beckham's face. My initial thought was, "Does the director have a crush on Nicola?" Then I realized-she is the director, and also the writer. Suddenly, it all made sense. This film is nothing more than a vanity project, and it painfully shows.
I do have to compliment the Director of Photography.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
The Snider Affect.
Zack Snyder is an intriguing director with an eye for stunning cinematography. His visuals often stand out as some of the most captivating camera work in the industry. However, amidst this visual beauty lies a challenging terrain. His films tend to conceal weak story structures, lack of character development, erratic time skips, and questionable decision-making. It seems that off-screen moments become Snyder's closest ally, as evidenced in works like "Rebel Moon Part 1." I'll refrain from commenting on the story as it's only part 1. But Snyder's tendencies are already hurting what could be an interesting universe. While some characters show promise, they suffer from a lack of meaningful development. Despite the desire to connect with these characters emotionally, their underdeveloped nature leaves viewers feeling detached. Why invest in a character's sacrifice or mourn their death when their presence barely registers on screen? The impact of relationships between characters becomes diluted when their interactions are sparse. Snyder might improve this by curbing the excessive and unnecessary use of slow-motion scenes that add little substance to the narrative. I would prefer to see a character show his desires for another character vs another character delivering a one liner to tell the viewer that information. I mean this is 101, Show don't tell. That's just lazy writing. Which seems to be the formula for today's movies. Pretty visuals with bad writing.
It's disheartening that the potential of "Rebel Moon" as a franchise worth following might be eclipsed by this formulaic approach favoring breathtaking visuals over cohesive storytelling.
Story Ave (2023)
Guzman the lone Star.
Having watched this film, I couldn't help but notice numerous missed opportunities. While the story, though unoriginal, had a pleasant vibe, the portrayal of The Bronx was captivating. Despite my appreciation for hidden gems, Story Ave fell short. With the exception of Luis Guzman, a compelling actor, the rest of the cast was mediocre at best. The portrayal of thugs seemed more like theater kids playing tough rather than authentic Bronx street individuals. Emotional connections within the story felt disjointed, and the cinematography, marked by some unengaging shots, gave off an experimental student film vibe. Regrettably, Story Ave comes across as a short film stretched into a feature length.
Simone (2021)
A good story but ok film.
Interesting and intriguing film. A little over dramatized but not to the point of quiting the film. Loved hearing the Coqui singing in the background.
I definitely would like to address the reviewer who said that this film has "Spain Envy." That statement couldn't be further from the truth. The scene portrayed how many Spanish speaking country view Puerto Rico as not being part of the spanish speaking culture due to the influence of tbe United States. There is no "Spanish Envy" whats so ever.
Back to the film. I do have to say that the music at times was distraction. At times it overpowered some of the dialog.
Overall it's an OK film.
Joker (2019)
A story telling MASTERPIECE!
I watched this movie last night. This movie is simply a masterpiece. I usually can pick out faults in movies. But not with this one. Acting was excellent! Cinematography was excellent! Writing was EXCELLENT! I was captured from the beginning and couldn't take my eyes off the screen.
One Night (2012)
Bad version of 'En La Cama.'
This film felt like a bad ripoff of the spanish movie named En La Cama. The dialog log was really cheesy.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Emotional in many ways.
I watched this movie on the pre-release fan day on Thursday April 25th. After a year of fan theories and guessing game. This movie was totally different from what I was expecting to see. It was a complete emotional rollercoaster. With really high peaks and an ending I didn't see coming. This is a must see movie.
I do have to admit that it was not as good as Infinity War. I feel that the comedy was a bit too much and some of the fight was not how I think it should have been. But I left with a smile and going to watch it again. It was just too much to take in in one seating. My emotions couldn't handle this amount of info.
LOVED IT!!
Captain Marvel (2019)
Lazy writing at best.
This movie is flat out lazy and forced. The writing was really bad. The characters were not believable and Carol Danver as a character didn't earn nor gave me any reason why I should want to root for her. I'm so disappointed with the direction MCU took this character.
Threesomething (2018)
I Feel like I'm......
"I feel" that this moving is missing so much. "I feel" like these characters were fake and trapped in a bizard, me me me, reality. The acting was bad at best. The script was bad and so was the directing.
I gave this movie a 4 only because I could see the potential it had.
Justice League (2017)
DCU Disapoints again. ;(
I saw this movie on Thursday opening day. I'm currently wondering about some of these reviews I'm reading here. Are people getting paid to post these 10 stars reviews? This movie is a great disappointment. DC Cinematic universe fumbles again. The movie felt rushed (again). The character development was poor. CGI was worse than movies from 15 years ago. And there was a bunch of beautiful shots that meant nothing or were unnecessary.
The only reason I scored it as high as a 5 star rating is because the love for these characters. Superman, Wonder Women, Batman, The Flash, Aquamen, can't get better than that. But the Movie itself is horrible. If you would to remove these iconic characters and replace them with unknowns characters. This movie will score only a 2 stars.
People, when reviewing. Please don't be fanboys.
