Spaceman (2024)
Nap Time
These arthouse junkies are just straight-up odd ducks. The people who love this film are the same people who go to art shows and convince themselves that the painting of squiggly lines has some sort of existential meaning and then proceeds to pay a million dollars for it. I envy them their ability to find joy so easily. It takes me, what feels like forever, to picknout a kovie or tv show to watch. I believe that, 99% of everything out there is just crap, so, for me to have come across a sci-fi movie starring Adam Sandler was like hitting the jackpot. Imagine my disappointment to find out that this movie is on par with watching paint dry.
Shogun (2024)
Credit due.
It's good to see Hiroyuki Sanada finally get cast into a starring role on a very well made series. He definitely earned it. As far as the series goes, everything about it so far has been top notch. The authenticity goes above and beyond. I could almost smell the stank coming from the English sailors through my television as they were removed from the prisoner holding pit after being taken off of their vessel. There was also a seen where one of their Japanese captors cut a villagers head off. It happened super fast and I wasn't expecting it. It looked so real that it left me speechless. The only thought going through my mind was "Daaaaaaamn!" I had to rewind it several times trying to figure out how it was done.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
Big let down
Without mentioning the many details that either didn't happen and needed to, or was completely unnecessary but happened anyway, I'll just say that having to force myself to watch this series was a pretty good indicator of how horribly written, produced and directed it was. There were several times that I even had to rewind long segments because I checked my phone and ended up watching FB reels for 30 minutes. One of the main issues for me was the casting. Not any of the main characters had that je na sais quoi and were often forced to deliver lines that sounded more like they were written for an after school special than a major Netflix production.
Evil (2019)
My new addiction
I dread having to watch all three seasons..., again..., for the gazillionth time, just to get me by until season 4 comes out. But I will do as I must in order to ease the withdrawal pains. I am seriously hating the writer and their stupid strike.
Enjoying this series all depends on how much cheese you like on your slice of entertainment pizza because it seems like one of those shows that you either wholeheartedly love or emphatically hate. Several things that everyone could probably agree on is how well this series was cast, how unique the storyline is, and how unpredictable it was. Some of my favorite parts was when the demons made an appearance, especially when sister Andrea gets after them. It's interesting how everyone, especially Kristin, is in such denial about what they see. It's more realistic as to how one might react after seeing something so disrurbing, especially when you're an uber skeptic about all things supernatural.
Professionals (2020)
Star power does not equal quality
For a show with so much star power, one would assume that at the very least, the show would have an above average budget but this show is like watching someone's home movie they shot on their parent's old VHS camcorder. The script is painful. I was physically cringing at how bad the writing was. The editing felt like it was done by some kid playing with a new editing app on his iphone. The whole thing was like watching one of those 5 minute behind the scene skits they make so people can see what it looks like raw and unedited, before the music and sound effects are added. Whatever possesed someone to make this show like this, on purpose, jas me baffled.
Yeok-jeok: baek-seong-eul hom-chin do-jeok (2017)
The Rebel Sissy
The name of this show should have been The Crybabies, because all they do is cry over every single little thing, especially the main character who spends the first 10 episodes balling his eyes out. The only thing I cried about was knowing what was going to happen to them before it ever happened. It was so predictable, sticking to the same old script where really evil and mean people with power does something horrible to the lowely peasants and their family or friends and so it goes back and forth with one getting the upper hand then the other while we set around waiting for the main character to finally come into his power and break bad on some noble asses and finally give them what they've had coming for 30 episodes.
Prey (2022)
Pleasant Surprise
I thought this would be another flop like predator 2 but it had me completely enthralled from start to finish. The use of so many different types of ancient weaponry was far more exciting than the same old point and shoot, and getting a xhance to see an earlier version of the Predator in a whole lot of knock down- drag out battles with some of the most brutal action to ever be put out by this franchise was definitely worth the price of the monthly fee. Watching the Indians i action was another treat. Understanding that most of the fighting skills we use today was learned from Fighting American Indians it was easy to believe how tough and bad-ass they were against this semmingly unbeatable Beast. Watching it annhialate the French hunters with some truly cruel but cool weaponry was icing on the cake.
Zoolander 2 (2016)
Zoolander 2 unfunny
The original was one of my favorite comedies of that decade but part 2 just wasn't all that interesting. It had a few funny moments but they were few and far between. Most of it was more like watching dumb and dumber than Zoolander. The best thing about the original was that, even though Derrick and Hansel were stupid and that was a big part of it, their stupid moments fit perfectly with the plot whereas in part 2 a lot of the funny moments was rehashed. What moments that weren't rehashed from the original (like Mugatoo pouring his latte on his assistant Todd and then staring at one another longingly) were more forced into the moment or far too too slap stick. It didn't flow with the plot. It was tough to set through the entire movie.
