Tooken (2015)
surprisingly many conservative hater reviewers..
This much better than 3-4. Its a *spoof*. Dont expect anything else!
There are lots of oneliners, lots of cheap laughs, an abundance of innuendos, and some other low-brow content.
Lots!
The 'plot' is a unholy mix of stalone bond and diehard flix, poured into a blender, and beaten to a pulp, seasoned with a nip of naughtiness. The Credits are hilarious -dont miss them!
In summery - If you liked ScaryMovie, you will like this too!
Monster (2017)
Monster Episode 1 -Lynch + arctic void + religion = Murder+(?)
So 'Monster' First of all: This is 'Nordic-horror' We are at 'the Bridge' with Sara, and Saga and humans mutilated for ..fun. Yes, the recipe for 'Nordic-horror' is definitively in the game. But can 'we' cope with more brutal deaths in desolated bare landscapes? From viewing 1. episode, i would say; Jajamensam (yes-we-can:) It has its slow parts.. Not quite as slow as the Islandic horror series 'En Mörder ibandt os' -where we 'famously' not only had to watch the police man brush his teeth, but also watch how he floss each and every one.. -Buuuut we are about there in some scenes.. The environment is more gloomy than even David Lynch, but HE is definitely also *there*. Be a ware of that- some times fat Russian singing women appears for NO reason what-so-ever..! I BET you, if you asked the instructor, he would admit a homice to David Lynch :P So strange things intervene with the plot, and that can be annoying as .... You really need to bolt your concentration-cap securely to the head, and sort the inputs in two buckets: A) That is ..weirdness B) That is important for the plot I kind of wish someone had done that before the release.. But mind you, then it could have been one episode shorter, and slap me behind, if writers aren't paid pr. episode.. Why watch it? Because of the suspense, the oddness of how Scandinavian's does their killings(!) and the landscapes. So far the characters has not convinced me enough. I would say episode 1 is a minor 7 So 6+
Harry Brown (2009)
Excellent Caine in convincing role, with great supporting cast
OK -Since Charles Bronson, there has been a MULTITUDE of 'doll-grey- nobody' grows into 'morrodung-avenger-kickass'. The opposition has been EVERYTHING.. I mean it.. Spiders Martians Mafias Voodoo Hindoo...(well maybe no that doo, but i weakly remember one with evil hairdoo's.. Oh well This one has Micheal Caine! Enough said! Genius reliable believable and just plain -Good! The script is mainstream: * Baddies do bad stuff * Goodies are hurt * Caine kicks ass That would pretty much be a recipe for a B% strait-to-video flick, but it is NOT. All participants are acting brilliantly, and the plot has the needed twists, to make it sufficiently different from the recipe. Its a great vigilante movie! 7+ from me.
La isla mínima (2014)
A taste of true detective
Stunning landscapes, and dark secrets, combines into a chilling story, with believable roles. A taste of true detective, not only in the imagery, but also in the two policemen and their haunting demons, and the brutal horrid murders. -And do not fear.. When i say "True detective", i mean No 1
Fallet (2017)
Crime satire
*** ***,2 Well.. this was a 'have to happen'. You take 10 years of famed Nordic crime and detective series from Forbrydelsen to Martin Beck, mix it with British gentleman detective tradition From Holmes to Shoestring, and make crazy satire out of the stew. I would not be at all surprised, if some of the later episodes, also take 'the Micky' on the slow Icelandic crime tradition, where everything... And i mean e v e r y thing, is portrayed in painstaking details. We got it all A Saga like loose gun, ..Swaters, mysterious signs, in blood (ofcause). Horrible murder scenes, where nothing is too graphic, all in the Nordic tradition, and the a pinch of British 'who-done-it' in the highest social layers. Mr Morse says 'helllo', but in a Monty-phythonish style. So the stew has all the ingredients, how does it taste? Its OK. Not Splendid by far. In fact often you will catch yourself thinking, OHH why didn't they do *this* instead of *that*, because -If you have a reasonable well tuned funny-bone, YOU will often have a better punchline :) Comparable to "Scary Movie", but not aimed at teens I agree with the score of 6+ The current value is 6.1. I don't think it should go higher than 6.3. This is based on the first 2 episodes. Pastiche/ Satire thingies has a nasty way of loosing steam, so later episodes may not be that entertaining. 6.2 for the two first episodes.
