Girl Lost: A Hollywood Story (2020)
reality for sex workers
The first Girl Lost movie brought me to this new Girl Lost: A Hollywood Story. With this one I was drawn into the way the story weaved the lives of the different women together from all facets of the sex work business. From the new girl to the girls who have been there done that. We are all connected. This is the reality for sex workers and there are some brutal and tough moments to watch, but it's definitely a necessary watch if you want to see the truth and not some sugar-coated nonsense. The pacing is fast and it kept me glued to the screen. Also, I really liked the actress playing Baby Girl very much and I liked that they really showed the dark side of Hollywood, it wasn't glamorized at all. Definitely recommend if you are interested in this subject matter.
Sherrybaby (2006)
Very realistic
This movie was on my suggested viewing list on Amazon. I personally know several women like "Sherry" and therefor I found it fascinating to watch her attempt at motherhood, but ultimate failure. Very realistic. Enjoyed the film very much.
Nowhereland (2016)
So close to reality that it was uncomfortable at times
I watched this movie last night on Amazon and was taken into this world that was so close to reality that it was uncomfortable at times. I felt like a fly on the wall of this girl's life. There seemed to be no separation between what was fiction and reality and that's what I loved the most. It felt almost like a documentary in certain parts. Some people might be taken aback by the graphic nature, but that's real life and I should know as I worked in that business for half of my life which is what drew me to the film in the first place. People need to realize and understand that the sex industry is not pretty and it's not nice and if you're offended by the truth, then perhaps you should watch a Disney movie next time. It upset me in certain ways because it brought back some upsetting memories for myself, but comforting at the same time because I know that I'm not alone in my experiences. Girl Lost is disturbingly beautiful and very well filmed and fantastic acting. 10 stars from me. I wish there were more films to watch like this.
