Scooter LaForge: A Life of Art (2023)
Well told story
A well told documemtary about an artist and the obsticles he had to face throught out his life time personally and as an artist. Nice stylized approach to telling this story. I enjoyed the cool graphics, CGI and the nice transitions. The narration was also well spoken. It was interesting hearing a different perspective about the time frame of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980's. I am sorry to hear that so many of his friends died during that time as a result. I remember growing up in this era and hearing about this disease. However, the interviewees were well spoken and charasmatic.
There is one takeaway, that I will keep with me and that I totally agree with, is when Scooter prefffered that people give him an honest critique about his art. I feel the same way.
One Lyfe to Life (2023)
A Good Watch
Here is my honest critique. Overall, this was a good movie. The story was well written with some good subplots. The pacing was good, a few slow moments, but good. This story depicted a realistic and relatable view of how some young men are caught in this never ending web of street life. Good way to depict the mother's fears of loosing their children to the street life. I am glad that this movie did not romanticize the street life, but displayed both sides, action and consequences. I thought some of the actors could have been a little stronger in their performances and there were a few audio issues throughout. The musical score was captivating and really gave this movie a soul. Good job.
Fated (2024)
Good Movie
My honest critique. Overall, this is a good revenge tale filmed without a lot if contrast which gives this movie that Lifetime movie feel. Good pacing. The lead actor was good, acting wise, as well as the antagonist. Good way to keep obstacles in front of him. I thought he played out those tense moments throughout the movie well. Very good scene where he had to make a tough decision when it came to his best friend at work. The pacing was good and I could also feel the main character's tough decision that he had to make in that scene. I thought that the acting from the supporting cast could have been stronger and more believable. However, the ending was good without any loose ends. Good Job.
The Sound of Waves (2023)
Good Love Story
For starters, good movie. The pacing was good and the acting was good. This movie was written well. I think that this is a movie a lot of actors can relate to and may touch a nerve. This movie touches on how on set relationships can get started or rekindled. The actors definitely displayed that relational tension. Can you date or be married to an actor? Can you maintain a successful career and a relationship with someone who is not an actor? Big balancing act. All of these questions came to mind when viewing this movie. Brought up some old memories and questions I had about this subject for many years. The director and writer nailed it with this one. Overall, is was a beautiful story.
Hemisphere (2023)
Good Sci-fi movie
Here is my honest review:
The production quality was good. A lot of us indie filmmakers don't have the financial resources like the Hollywood Gods to tell sci-fi stories. The makers of this production did what needed to be done and I think they pulled it off considering. They made very good use of the locations they had and pulled off the feel of being on a spaceship. It reminded me of Aliens a little. I thought the acting was good and the overall concept of the story was good. Nice backstory of the supporting actor to add to the story.
I would have liked to have seen the other people who entered the ship looking for the main characters and their journey to find them. This conflict, shown, would have made this movie more interesting than the one sided visuals and lack of action.
Static Codes (2023)
Good Scifi Flick
I liked this movie. The story was good. The pacing was good. Very well filmed and the vfx was good. I liked the lead character's obstacles, especially with his daughter. I particularly am a fan of father daughter stories, so they grab at me and prick my heart. I don't want to give any spoilers but, I am pleased with the outcome of their relationship. This movie was entertaining to watch. I feel that the daughter's life from her point of view could have been added to this story and showed more of the origin of their conflict. From the way this movie ended, it looks like there may be a sequel. If there is one in the plans, I would like to see it. Good job.
Introspectum Motel (2021)
Good Movie
For starters, the cinematography was good. Second, the acting was just as good. This was most definitely raunchy, but it had to be. This definitely was raw and gritty as well as graphic. I don't know if I could sit in a chair and endure that. (I don't want to give away any spoilers. But wow. Talk about letting it all hang out. But hey, the story called for it. The pacing was good and there wasn't a dull moment. I was expecting a little horror, but that may come in the sequel because it looks like there is going to be a part too. This story tells a more extreme story of (I don't want to give anything away because the discovery of what happen is what makes this movie interesting) what you should not do to your spouse. I don't know why this movie got a low rating because I thought it was honestly good.
I Am Shakespeare: The Henry Green Story (2017)
Bravo
I was very moved by this. He narrated so well. Henry spoke with so much passion. The way he told his story had me at attention. I was immediately drawn into his world. Have lived in the inner city where I am from, I could relate to every word and description. I was so glad that he turned his life around. He is right, the cure to all of this is forgiveness. I have been saying the same thing for years and when he confirmed it was heartwarming. His willingness to forgive the man who shot him and how he describe this was awesome. This should be turned into a narrative story. Bravo to everyone involved.
Thorns & Thistles at the End of the World (2023)
A good movie about the struggles of loss in a marriage.
This was a good one. I thought they were hitmen at first but as the story progressed, I understood the setting that they were in. I don't want to give away any spoilers. The biblical part of this story was subtle and not preachy. The pacing was good. When couples face a huge loss it can tear the union apart. I loved to see the outcome and how the husband had to own up to his part and not play the blame game, like most men do. You will have to watch the story to see what the actual issue was about. The discovery of the problem is also what makes this an interesting story. The acting was good. I wish there was a little more emotional grab. That is one of my only critiques. The other is a little more context of the time to explain the dead bodies and the officer with his gun on backwards. Overall, good movie.
A Dangerous Prey (2024)
A good watch
I liked this movie. I loved the wife and her aggressiveness to make things better. I like the chemistry between her and the husband. Realistic view of how a wife snaps on a husband in one breadth when she doesn't like the situation. I can relate, ha ha. Married couples can relate. The two white guys were good comic relief. I like how the wife toughens up towards the end and (I don't want to put out any spoilers). You will have to watch the movie yourself. I just need the ending explained to me. How did she get to that point. Give it a watch for yourself and see. Looks like there may be a sequel.
Don't Let Me Stay (2023)
My Honest Critique
Congrats on your film. Big accomplishment making and distributing a indie film.
I like the concept.
I like the chemistry between the characters.
I did like the score.
I liked the very end when the new couple came. Sets this movies up for a sequel.
The acting could've been better. The conversations and some of the performances were "one note". This makes it a little challenging to stay in the story.
There should have been more contrast with the lighting due to the nature of the story.
I thought the execution of this story could've been a little more sinister to give it that eerie feeling.
