• The 3 Spanish tales are from Spanish Fairy Tales: The Bird of Truth & Other Fairy Tales, by Fernán Caballero. Translated by J. H. Ingram. Most of the German tales from pages 62-170 are from the Brothers Grimm's Household Stories (1861) published by Routledge & Sons, many are not credited as such in the Publisher's Note. The following stories are from a different translation:
• 'Hans in Luck', 'The Fox & the Cat', 'The Fisherman & His Wife' and 'The Adventures of Chanticleer & Partlet' are from Grimm's Fairy Tales, published by J.B. Lippincott. Translated by Mrs. Edgar Lucas. Also from this edition though not credited are 'The Golden Goose', 'The Wolf & the 7 Kids' and 'The Elves & the Shoemaker'. For other editions not credited see below.
• The 4 Russian tales by Louise Seymour Houghton are from The Russian Grandmother's Wonder Tales.
• 'The Happy Family' & 'The Money-Box' by Hans Christian Andersen are from Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales. Translated by Mrs. H. B. Paull. Though listed in the Publisher's Note as from this collection, Mrs. Paull never tranlated 'It Is Quite True'. Its' source is currently unknown.
• The Southern Indian tales are from Old Deccan Days by Mary Frere. Most of the Scandinavian tales from pages 274-323 are by Asbjornsen & Moe and are from the 2 following sources: Fairy Tales from the Far North, translated by H.L. Brækstad. 'The Princess Whom Nobody Could Silence' however is by Asbjørnsen & Moltke Moe istead of usual partner Jørgen Moe. Tales from the Fjeld, translated by George Webbe Dasent. 'How Reynard Outwitted Bruin' is a retitling of the latter's 'Slip Root, Catch Reynard's Foot'.
• 'Little Tuppen' is from Fairy Stories & Fables (Eclectic School Readings-Second Reader Grade) by James Baldwin.
• The 2 stories from Edward Lear are from Nonsense Books (1888), though the second isn't listed in the publisher's note.
• 'Manabozho & His Toe' is from North American Indian Fairy Tales (1905), edited by Charles John Tibitts (C. J. T.).
• All the Chinese tales are from Chinese Nights' Entertainment by Adele M. Fielde.
• All the Swedish tales are by Baron G. Djurklou from Fairy Tales from the Swedish. Translated by H.L. Brækstad. Uncredited stories are from the following sources:
• The 3 Italian tales by Giambattista Basile are from The Pentamerone (1847). Translated by John Edward Taylor.
• The 3 Cossack tales are from Cossack Fairy Tales & Folk-Tales by R. Nisbet Bain.

• 'The Story of Zirac' is an excerpt from 'The Two Friends' in The Fables of Pilpay (1872). All the English/Scottish tales on pages 197-244+335 are from English Fairy Tales & More English Fairy Tales, edited by Joseph Jacobs except for the following:
• 'The Old Woman and Her Pig' is from Six Nursery Classics (Heath Supplementary Readers). Author unknown.
• The other 4 tales from India are from Indian Fairy Tales, edited by Jacobs.
• 'Why the Sea is Salt' by Asbjornsen & Moe is from The Blue Fairy Book, edited by Andrew Lang. Translated by Margaret Hunt (Mrs. Alfred Hunt).
• 'The Farmer & the Troll' is from Fairy Life (Golden Rod Books-Third Reader Grade) by John H. Haaren.
• The Cock, the Cuckoo, and the Black-Cock' by Asbjornsen & Moe is from Popular Tales from the Norse. Translated by George Webbe Dasent. Mislabeled as English istead of Scandinavian (Norwegian).
• 'Bruno's Story' is an excerpt from Sylvie & Bruno by Lewis Carroll.
• 'The Giant's Shoes' by William Kingdon Clifford is from The Little People.

• 'The Mouse & the Sausage' (mislabeled French instead of German), 'The Three Brothers', 'The Young Giant', 'Seven at 1 Blow', 'The 5 Servants' and 'The Race Between Hare & Hedgehog' (mislabeled as English instead of German) by the Brothers Grimm.
• 'Why the Bear Has a Stumpy Tail' by Asbjørnsen & Moe. Mislabeled as German instead of Scandinavian (Norwegian).
• 'The Hare & the Fox' by Ludwig Bechstein.
• 'The Darning-Needle' by Hans Christian Andersen.
• 'Belling the Cat' said to be by either Aesop or Laurentius Abstemius. Mistakenly listed as English.
• 'The Magpie and Her Children' by Bonaventure de Périers. Listed as English instead of French.
• 'The Bluebottle Who Went Courting' & 'How 2 Beetles Took Lodgings' both listed as English.
• 'Wee Robin's Yule-Song' by Robert Burns.
• 'King Wren' is probably the Grimms' as well, but has been altered significantly.
• The story "Wee Robin's Yule-Song" is actually in the Scots language so is marked as such.

Synopsis: Evidently the editors planned three more anthologies jointly, after completing selection for the first, having found "myriads of other gems".
