Cross-functional teams are also quite often diverse and varied. When I design a retrospective or any other collaborative session I try to use different techniques to include all possible voices. This might include using collaboration tools and boards, so that everybody gets a few minutes to gather their thoughts and write them down. I also try breakout rooms for more complex topics - I present a problem or question, let people discuss it in subgroups and then share those insights in a big forum. You might experiment with different formulas and ideas to find ways to engage everybody in the team.

Here are a couple of ways that helped me engage introverted members of the team during the retrospective.
1. When introducing the retrospective ceremony to the team for the 1st time or to a new team member explaining what's going to happen during the meeting in advance and what questions we are expected to cover helps them prepare in advance.
2.Establishing a safe atmosphere by starting with positive feedback and clarifying that the goal is not to assign blame, but to identify areas for future improvement helps set the right tone. This reduces pressure and encourages open, constructive participation from all team members.

Engaging introverted team members in Agile retrospectives can be challenging, but ensuring all voices are heard is crucial. Create a comfortable environment by offering different contributing methods, such as anonymous feedback tools or written inputs before the meeting. Give them time to reflect by sharing the agenda in advance and encouraging one-on-one follow-ups. A balance of structured and open-ended questions can help introverts express their thoughts, ultimately enriching the retrospective with diverse perspectives.

This issue depends a lot on each professional, it is something very personal for each member, but it is something that has to be worked on for the team to be on the same page.
Something that helps a lot are icebreakers and activities to get to know team members more and build a bond of comfort and trust. Little by little they loosen up and achieve better results in deliveries with a well-engaged team.
