When team members display unconscious bias, I address it by fostering open conversations and creating a safe space for everyone to share their perspectives. I lead by example, practicing inclusivity in my interactions, and encourage others to be aware of their behavior. Training and awareness sessions on bias can also help the team recognize and overcome it. Regular feedback and setting clear expectations for respect and collaboration ensure that inclusivity becomes a core part of our work culture.

In my experience, tackling unconscious bias requires addressing the issue with the team, providing training to promote awareness as well as accountability, and encouraging an honest dialogue so there is a safe space for the team to learn and grow.

I start by fostering awareness through open conversations and training on recognizing biases. I lead by example, modelling inclusive behaviour in all interactions, and ensure that decisions - whether in hiring, feedback, or task assignments - are based on objective criteria. I encourage team members to voice diverse perspectives and create an environment where everyone feels safe to express their ideas. Regular feedback and self-reflection help us all remain mindful of bias. By promoting transparency, empathy, and active listening, I ensure that inclusivity is at the core of every team interaction.

Acknowledge Bias: The first step is recognizing that unconscious bias exists. I make sure we talk openly about it and acknowledge its presence without judgment.
Encourage Open Dialogue: I encourage open and honest conversations where everyone feels safe to express their thoughts, even if they differ from the majority.
Lead by Example: I show inclusivity in my actions—listening to all voices, asking for input from quieter team members, and making sure everyone gets a chance to contribute.
Provide Awareness Training: Regular sessions on unconscious bias help the team become more aware of how it can show up and how to counteract it.
