Having myself been an actor on many high budget productions it enabled me to run a very low budget set of my own and get everyone served for their availability and to come in on time and on schedule. There are no short cuts I don't think. Planning was key and took many many many many many hours into the nights for me to organise my team and all their schedules and have a back up plan for every day - which we did have to call on. Being flexible and keeping cheerful about it all helps so much and accentuating the positive out of every situation - a shot that you might never have got had everything run to plan. Keep the tea on tap and the sandwiches on hand. No crew marches on an empty stomache.
