Hopefully, in your case, these design changes were brought about by the Owner and/or his design team. As I've said many times before, transparency here is the key. This is the time to go above and beyond with communication and escalating costs to the budget. If the Owner tires of your communication here, let them throttle you back. If you're losing time waiting on the design team to finalize design, inform the Owner of possible delays and extended general conditions. They need to know to become more prepared when the dust settles. Everyone is frenzied at this point, and you will need to settle them down with logical direction. Understand as well, how this design change will trickle down to the other trades, & prepare the client here as well
