In general, the high profile customers(req1) takes priority but weighing out the smaller client requests(req2) is a must: 1) Impact- does req2 have more impact than req1 for a wider customer base? 2) Roadmap- req2 was already in the roadmap or would strengthen the product strategy compared to req1? 3) Field survey- Always run through the customer facing teams PS, CS, & customers to get a sense of their interest & familiarity of req1 & req2 4) Execution score- compare both from implementation/effort wise. Like in games, when the decision goes to a third umpire, it needs substantial evidence to overturn the on field umpire decision, so same goes with req2 to make its way above req1 to get it prioritised based on above 4 pointers .

Some questions to ask yourself are: Is prioritizing this feature leading us towards our goals? Will it get us more clients like them? Do I want more clients like them? If the answers are mostly no, this ask will derail your team from capturing more of your your ideal customers. This isn’t a hard and fast rule, and in most real world scenarios, there’s a fine line that needs to be walked. Often times large accounts make up a large portion of your revenue for a company but it’s important to read through their asks and really determine if they are must haves.
