At the begining of my career, I overlooked the skill of delegation, mistakenly thinking that the time spent delegating was a waste or even worse, that if I didn't do everything myself, things would fall apart. However, after spending many years in the AEC industry, I’ve realized that delegation is one of the most powerful skills a project manager or design lead can have, especially in a broad field like civil engineering. I've learned the value of delegation and, more importantly, how to do it effectively through these simple steps: provide clear instructions and context, set time and budget limits for the task, outline outcome expectations, offer a starting point, guide, or references, and regularly check in with constructive feedback.

Como engenheiro civil, aprendi que a delegação é uma arte que vai além de simplesmente passar tarefas adiante. No meu dia a dia, me esforço para entender as habilidades únicas de cada membro da minha equipe. Isso me permite delegar de forma que todos possam brilhar em suas áreas de especialidade. Recentemente, percebi que, ao delegar tarefas adequadamente, consigo liberar meu tempo para focar em aspectos gerenciais e deixando o operacional para os delegados, o que é fundamental para o crescimento profissional e o sucesso do projeto.
