Por isso prezo o relacionamento com eles, e não deixo de valorizar a comunicação com os mesmos. Para tal temos que saber ouvir o que estes dizem, aceitarmos as suas dificuldades, pois no fim são as nossas. E ajudar na busca de soluções que os ajudem a supera-las, pois se eles as superarem, estamos nós a superar as nossas. One thing i find helpful is trying to approach the subcontractor in a friendly maner and explain how and why the communication is important and propose solutions and more important ask for feedback maybe the existing communication channels are not so friendly. Learn from mistakes, do not repeat themselves.

First of all choosing right sub contractor is very important, to cut the cost don't select the wrong person else any suggestion will not work!! Few things to be done- 1. Take execution plan with dates 2. Meet him regularly to keep proper relation with him, because relation makes remarkable difference in communication & commitment level. 3. It is very important to finalize consequences of project delay and to make sub contractor responsible for his part of delay and loss. 4. Sit on the table to understand his struggle points and check if at any point you can help him out. 5. If things didn't work out after all these, you can introduce new sub contractor to get the work done in wright manner and at right time.
