“Out of Plain Sight” explores the reckless pollution in our oceans and its devastating impact on marine life and ecosystems. The film marks cinematographer Austin Straub and director Daniel Straub’s. debut feature documentary. The DP talks about capturing the doc with ALEXA 35: “As a documentarian, I aspire to give the audience a way to experience these challenging stories directly alongside me and to remove as many barriers as possible that stand in the way of that. There’s the age-old saying, right? — the pictures just don’t do it justice — yet, every time we brought our dailies into the edit, I felt as though I was peering through a window in time. Over the course of production, I developed a completely newfound confidence that if my eye could resolve something, the camera would reproduce it faithfully. It was incredibly liberating to be able to focus solely on operating in the field and not have to worry if I was capturing images I would be happy with. The truly impressive dynamic range of the ALEXA 35 coupled with the new REVEAL color science continually amazed and delighted me with the way it reproduced the beauty and tonal nuances of the California coast. Director Hunter Lyon on using ARRI Textures to create the look of his latest short: “My good friend and collaborator Andrew Fronczak was the DP on this project, he owns the amazing ALEXA 35 which has become our go-to camera system ever since we've used it. After using this camera, we can't go back to shooting on anything else. We used the Custom Soft Nostalgic Texture to give the image a little more grain to add to the grittiness of the story.
