BNSF celebrated Veterans Day yesterday with a program at its Fort Worth headquarters that included panel discussions featuring BNSF employees who served in the Armed Forces. In this photo, Director of Internal Communications Mike Pagel, left, moderates a panel with three veteran employees: Terminal Superintendent Quilesha Hodges, center, Consulting Systems Developer Heather Stone, and Executive Vice President and COO Matt Igoe, who spoke about how their military background helps them lead courageously and succeed in their railroad careers. We reached a milestone phase this month for our Cicero, Illinois Intermodal Expansion Project! During phase two of our multi-year expansion, we completed: 🚂A new production track adding 4,530 feet of capacity 🚂43,000 feet of reconstructed receiving yard track for an optimized layout 🚂A new trailer parking lot adding 470+ parking stalls 🚂A new hostler repair shop 🚂A new 100-foot diameter turntable, and more This is all being done while achieving major sustainability efforts as part of the overall project. Our teams significantly reduced excavation for this project by optimizing site grading, recycling existing pavement, and testing and repurposing excess soil on an adjacent BNSF site, reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 5,971 metric tons. Additionally, through collaboration with the local municipality, our team designed and constructed a stormwater detention system that greatly enhances the local community by effectively controlling stormwater runoff. BNSF partnered with Railroading Heritage of Midwest America to donate the existing 135-foot turntable for restoration and re-use at their facility in Silvis, Illinois. BNSF also donated an existing 15-ton crane from the Cicero Diesel Repair Shop to the Illinois Railway Museum, which will be used to service the museum’s 58 historic diesel locomotives. Once complete, (estimated 2026), the new facility will increase our production capacity to support current demand and future growth. With 50 additional miles of double-track on our Emporia Subdivision in Kansas, completed earlier this year, all but four miles of BNSF’s 2,200-mile Southern Transcon route is double-, triple- or quadruple-tracked! That means higher fluidity and velocity on our rail network. More freight capacity equals more opportunity for our customers, and we’re ready to bring you those efficiency gains. It was another record month at BNSF in October! Last month: 🚂 We surpassed our September record at the SoCal ports and loaded more freight from ship to train than ever before in a single month’s time 🚂 We set a record for most intermodal shipments in a single month overall across our entire network 🚂 We set a record for most automotive shipments in a single month overall across our entire network 🚂 We processed more traffic than ever at our eight hump yards, breaking all-time production records and creating more capacity to move more industrial products through those terminals We’re proud of our teams for meeting these milestones and doing so safely. #intermodal #bnsf #automotive #freightrail

🚂🌾Meet Brandon Mortensen, BNSF agricultural marketing manager with a deep tie to the industry! 🌾🚂 Mortensen’s father managed multiple grain elevators (BNSF-served locations, we might add!) in North Dakota. Watching his dad work, Mortensen learned about the harvest rush. This early exposure led him to get a degree in agriculture. “I remember seeing the inside of a locomotive cab when I was young, probably before age 10,” Mortensen said. “I have fond memories of hearing the trains on summer nights while on the farm.” Harvest season is a special time for BNSF and for many of our team members who have roots in the world of agriculture.
