If you’re near the Hudson River in New York or New Jersey, you’ve probably noticed the ongoing work on the Hudson River Ground Stabilization – the first major phase of the Hudson Tunnel Project. Weeks Marine, Inc., a subsidiary of Kiewit, is actively working on the Hudson, plunging 140-foot-long steel pipe piles and sheeting into the riverbed to create a stabilized foundation to facilitate future tunneling construction by other contractors. To do this, crews construct a temporary cofferdam containment structure and perform ground improvements inside. The cofferdam is built in segments 110 feet wide and up to 600 feet long across a 1,200-foot-long corridor. This operation will continue for the next two years and is essential for preparing the ground for the tunnel boring machine and protecting the riverbed from disruption. Once the project is complete, it will provide long-term reliability and resiliency, benefiting not only NJ Transit and Amtrak users but also travelers throughout the region and nation.

The English River Project in Eastern Canada is now complete. In partnership with SOW Construction Limited Partnership, this project involved the rehabilitation of three dams, with careful monitoring of ground movement to ensure the stability of the structures. The three locations — Caribou Falls Main Dam (Upstream and Downstream), Block Dam 4 (Upstream), and Whitedog Dam (Upstream) — were completed ahead of schedule. Key project activities included: 🏗️ Drilling of 10 inclinometers 🏗️ Installation of 35 piezometers 🏗️ Pouring of 50 cubic meters of concrete for the telltale strip 🏗️ Backfilling of over 18,000 cubic meters, including more than 16,000 cubic meters in the water using GPS technology Given that this project is situated on the traditional land of the Wabaseemong Independent Nations, and with the support of Ontario Power Generation, we also updated the construction area we worked from as a gesture of appreciation — adding two new docks, a fish shack, repairing more than six miles of road and adding over two acres of new laydown area with a private road. Congratulations to our team and client on a successful project completion!

Omaha Children's Museum, a beloved institution for families in the Omaha area for the last 50 years, will soon have a new home. Kiewit will build the museum's new facility in Omaha's Heartland of America Park at the RiverFront in Downtown Omaha. The new space aims to create a dynamic, inclusive, fun and purpose-built environment for children and their guardians to support early childhood development. Kiewit has a long history with the museum, and we're excited to continue this partnership and help reimagine the museum for future generations. The museum will remain open at its current location until it transitions to the new building.

TIC - The Industrial Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit, and Kairos Power ceremonially kicked off construction on a Salt Production Facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico – a first of its kind for the U.S. nuclear industry. The facility will produce high-purity molten salt coolant for Kairos Power's advanced reactors, including the Hermes Low-Power Demonstration Reactor. The facility will use a proprietary chemical process to create large quantities of high-purity Flibe enriched in Lithium-7 to meet strict qualifications to be used inside the reactor. This facility plays a crucial role in Kairos Power’s mission to advance clean energy, mitigate supply chain risk, accelerate deployment and deliver advanced reactor technology. TIC is serving as the general contractor and overseeing project construction. Read more about the project here: https://bit.ly/40o6izc
