We’re proud to partner with schools like Farmington Area Public Schools, ISD 192 in Minnesota where our work shapes real change. Working with district leaders and administrators, we are sparking new conversations and sharing tactics to navigate the current context of supporting students and teachers. Educators and staff are learning and thriving from this fresh approach. From professional development to hands-on projects, we're helping educators build classrooms that foster curiosity, empathy, and global competence, thanks to our amazing donors and school partners!
About us
World Savvy prepares the next generation of leaders to learn, work and thrive as responsible global citizens in the 21st century. We support systemic change in K-12 education to provide every student in every classroom with the content knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to be leaders and changemakers in their diverse communities, locally and globally. World Savvy was founded in 2002 by Dana Mortenson and Madiha Murshed in response to a critical need for youth to acquire global knowledge and 21st century skills within the conspicuous absence of global education programs in K-12 education in the United States. Since that time, we have grown from serving 90 students and 20 teachers in our first year, to reaching nearly 700,000 youth and 5,000 teachers. This growing need for true global competency in our increasingly diverse and interconnected local & global communities has helped to propel World Savvy into a national leader in global education. Our dynamic programs and services help youth in middle and high school learn how to think rather than what to think about critical global and community issues, which are often complex and not addressed in school, and have enormous implications for their local community. Program Coordinator at World Savvy - Driving Global Competence & 21st Century Learning in K12 education, and preparing young people to be engaged citizens in an everchanging world.
The best part of what I do is getting to see these communities come together to not just dream of new, innovative, and relevant ways to teach & learn, but to put those dreams to action. It’s what students and educators are craving all over the country, and World Savvy helps us get there. 🌎
At World Savvy, we are committed to our mission of equipping young people with the tools to engage thoughtfully, think critically, and collaborate across divides. World Savvy’s Changemaker Hubs are one way we benefit all students and foster student readiness to engage in real-world issues affecting their community and the world. 💡Changemaker Hubs are day-long learning experiences that are designed to unleash youth and educator civic participation in their communities. The Changemaker Hub experience allows students to engage across differences to think critically and creatively about issues relevant to them. This year, World Savvy hosted three Changemaker Hubs in communities in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, reaching 300 students across 34 schools and districts. We can’t wait to expand our Changemaker Hubs to communities across California, Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania to ensure students are prepared for social engagement in a multi-ethnic democracy. ➡️Support our work: https://buff.ly/3YvbxdO

Happy Election Day! As voters head to the polls, it's a reminder of the critical role education plays in shaping an informed and engaged society. At World Savvy, we believe that schools are the cornerstone of a thriving democracy, where students not only learn how to think critically but are also empowered to act. Our efforts are grounded in cultivating connections, promoting active learning through inquiry, fostering knowledge to action, and adapting to emerging needs—all of which prepare young people to be engaged citizens who understand their role in shaping the future. At its best, education should create spaces for students to belong and engage with real-world issues, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to make meaningful change. Through programs like Changemaker Hubs, we are working with students across the country, providing them with the tools to address challenges in their communities. This is how we prepare students to eventually become thoughtful, informed voters, ready to contribute to a thriving democracy. Together, we are building an education system that supports belonging, connection, and civic engagement—one that strengthens the fabric of our democracy.

School should be a place where students love to learn, where connections are made, curiosity is sparked, and joy is a priority. We know students love to learn, yet too many students today feel stressed, tired, and disconnected. When asked if they feel positive about their school culture, only 44% of 6th graders, 32% of 9th graders, and 28% of 11th graders agreed (Youth Truth). And it’s not just students who feel the strain—52% of teachers say they wouldn’t recommend their profession to the next generation. At World Savvy, we believe it’s time for a new vision of what education can be—one that fuels belonging, encourages curiosity, and prioritizes joy. We’re creating a system that prepares young people to engage in today’s diverse, dynamic world and supports educators and communities in building schools that nurture both the mind and heart. Stay tuned to learn more about how we’re transforming education across World Savvy partner schools and districts nationwide.

We had an incredible open house on October 24th to welcome Hamse Warfa as World Savvy’s new CEO! It was a wonderful event with impactful conversation with Superintendent Dr. Michael J. Thomas, Ed.D. on what our schools and systems need. During the event, Hamse emphasized the importance of empowering our youth: "Relevant education, student and people-centered, and that will provide the necessary resources for young people and then get out of their way, that's how we will protect our democracy. They are the ones who are going to inherit this world; empowering them and giving them the resources necessary is the most important intervention for us to protect our democracy in the long run." Superintendent Dr. Michael Thomas echoed this sentiment, stating, "If public ed is a dominant space where we all interact, it needs to be relevant and responsive to the needs of today and the unknown needs of tomorrow. Because our kids will compete in a world vastly different than ours!" Together, we are committed to creating an education system that not only meets today's needs but also prepares our students for the future. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion—your passion and support mean the world! Let’s continue to work together for a brighter, more empowered future for our students! #WorldSavvy #EmpowerOurYouth #EducationRevolution #Community #FutureReady
