Add or change the cover image on your profile

Adding a cover image to your profile make your professional story more visually appealing. It also helps you stand out on LinkedIn to recruiters, future employers, prospective clients, and other members.Your cover image appears behind your profile photo in the introduction section on your profile.

To add a cover image:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Click View Profile.

  3. Click the Camera icon on the upper-right corner of your introduction section.

  4. Click Edit profile background to select an image from your computer, select the image and click Open.

  5. After uploading the image, you can:

    • Edit cover image: Crop the photo, use photo filters, adjust, change the position and size, or rotate your cover image
    • Change cover image: Click Change photo and follow prompts to change your cover image


  6. Click Apply.

    • The image will upload automatically.

To reposition, delete, or change a cover image:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Click View Profile.

  3. Click the  Edit icon on the upper-right corner of the cover image in the introduction section.

  4. From here, you can:

    • Edit cover image: Crop the photo, use photo filters, adjust, change the position and size, or rotate your cover image
    • Change cover image: Click Change photo and follow prompts to change your cover image
    • Delete cover image: Click Delete photo and confirm your action to delete your cover image
  5. Click Apply (if applicable).

Live Video stream on the cover image

When a LinkedIn Live Video broadcaster begins a live stream, the cover image will automatically change to display the live stream. This cover image change is temporary and the image will revert after the stream has ended.

Note: Currently there is no option to opt out of this feature.

Cover image specifications:

  • JPG or PNG file
  • Lesser than 8MB
  • 1584 (w) x 396 (h) pixels (recommended)

If your cover image appears blurry or pixelated, please choose an image with a larger file size. Photos will also look better than images with logos. If your image is still blurry or pixelated, you could use a compression tool such as Trimage for Windows or ImageOptim for Mac before uploading it to LinkedIn.

  • LinkedIn doesn’t provide support for any third-party tools that you use

  • How your image appears may change based on the size of your web browser window and screen resolution

  • Cover image that you upload must comply with our User Agreement
