Identity verification by Persona - Troubleshooting

Here are some tips that may be helpful if you run into issues with adding identity verification to your profile using Persona. Check the following:

Name doesn’t match: The name on your passport must match the name on your LinkedIn profile. If you have a LinkedIn profile in another language, the name on your passport also needs to match the name on your secondary language profile. Your verification will not be added to your Linkedin profile unless they match.

Unsupported Government IDs: Identity verification by Persona is currently available to LinkedIn members who hold a valid NFC-compatible passport issued by the governments of the countries listed here. Your passport is NFC-capable if you see the biometric symbol on the front cover. The NFC chip is positioned within the back of your passport.

Illegible ID: To verify your passport, Persona will need a clear, complete, and well-lit photo of your passport. In that photo, make sure the text is visible and legible, with no glare preventing full visibility of the sections you’re required to capture, and that all four corners of the passport are captured.

Selected country mismatch: Make sure that the selected passport country is correct and matches the country that issued the passport that you’re using to verify your identity. Your LinkedIn profile location must be one of the supported countries for which identity verification by Persona is available. 

Selfie image: Make sure that your face is visible, well-lit, and free from glare when submitting your face photo.

Devices: You will be able to capture your passport only through a mobile device. This verification cannot be completed using desktop or laptop devices.

Scanning unsuccessful: Make sure your device is NFC enabled. If you have a phone case, try removing it. Slowly scan your passport. NFC scans from your passport can take up to 10 seconds.

Data sharing is declined:  We won’t be able to add the verification to your LinkedIn profile unless you grant Persona permission to share with LinkedIn certain information about your identity verification. At the end of Persona’s verification process, click on “Yes, share.”

Verification used on another LinkedIn profile: Each verification can only be added to one LinkedIn profile.

Minors: LinkedIn members below 18 are not allowed to verify your identity with Persona.
